This morning I was stretching and Oreo came over and wanted love. It's kind of hard to pet a cat and pull your body into the shape of a pretzel also. So I scratched his head and then I told him, "go see Dearra, she'll pet you." So he did. We were laughing so hard. Tomorrow I'm going to teach him math. Is your cat smart?

That is what the Postal worker told me and that was two days ago... So would that be tomorrow or the tomorrow after tomorrow?

Sab was that smart. She once was crying for me and the former roommate told her that I was at work and would be home later. Sab looked at her, then at the door, and then went and laid down on my bed.

Well I told her once that she needed to wait a couple of hours and she went away and came back right on the second hour...

We've had many cats over the years - Tiger for a marmalade, Smoky for a grey, Sooty for black etc - so original! One of my sons was given a cat for a housewarming present when he rented an apartment while at uni. It was a marmalade, but he named him Wolfgang (after W.A.Mozart). We "inherited" Wolfie when the son moved and was not allowed a pet in the next apartment. What is in a name? Wolfie was the only intelligent cat we've ever had. I've wondered if my son's naming him had anything to do with it - living up to his namesake? Whatever, but wolfie did seem to understand and did obey. PS I am a dog lover but cats are cuddly and playful.

We call them marmalade or tiger because of the stripes, but it could be an orange tabby. Wolfie was an unusually dark, bright colour and very big.

A marmalade? Is that an orange tabby? I have a soft spot for orange cats.

Mine was the dumbest ever. We had to prepare food for her, even catch the rats! Once thought of teaching her to do it herself. All she could manage was to wrestle with a manner-less rat until we got fed up. Still I miss her. At least she didn't litter here and there. (except once and that was BAD!)

My cats don't wait for us to drop food but they do sneak things off the table if we're not looking...

None of my cats hunt. They are strictly indoor babies...

I love my cat and wouldn't be without him. He is really affectinate, but at the same time he is a great rat/mouse catcher. We have a farm behind our house so there are mice/rats around. Well there was until I got our sooty. He brings me presents everyday. Although I hate the things at least I know we won't get a nest of them anywhere near us with the cat about. He is also a great hoover. He sits under the table and if my kids drop any food at meal times he eat it up. I always thought this was more of a dog thing to do but obviously not.

If I had a cat it would be smart.. For it would quickly learn not to get in my face when I am first waking up. *LOL*

Hi Chey and Dawn, Oh' Good Dream Weaver is playing on the Hawk 99.9 FM... I had an experience with one of our cats, in order to wake me up because I had a day off and I had been doing so much work to support my wife and I that the cat was used to the routine where I get up early in the morning around the same time, well the considerate feller decided to help me make sure that I would not be late for work, I think he was hungry too, he was a good eater, and my cheek must have looked like the right target to get my attention... Somehow in my non-waking pleasure I found my arms trapped by the covers so I was helpless to unlatch the leach attached to me cheek... He wasn't biting to hurt, but it still was a pinch that I didn't appreciate and as much as I love his intentions, he was about to learn the fine art of flying of only I could have freed up my arms... I remember that like it was yesterday... And my wife she thought it was so funny... Actually it was! Okay' I'm up already you can let gooooooo..... Brat, cat...

That is cute. The cat can follow instructions. It might be possible to teach the cat math. I think your cat is very smart. Let me know when your cat is ready to do my taxes for me.

we have a tux cat that is way too smart. there's almost nothing he can't get open, and i have seen him pick apart a knot to carry away a hanging toy. i have never seen a cat so good at figuring out (a action)+(b action)=(c result) before.

All cats are smart but choose when & where to show off. it's an attitude thing. One door will be open to go in and out but the cats will often insist someone open a different door. Why walk all the way to the back door when they can get the humans to open the front door ... smarty pants. My Patch cat doesn't like to eat by himself so if he cant's get one of the family to watch him eat he will pester the dogs till they follow him to the kitchen.

Khuay, the cat in my avatar, is currently learning algebra! It seems like every time I get the algebra homework out he has to sleep on the books. Max, a big fluffy orange cream long hair was able to open doors. We always had to lock the door so that he couldn't come in. He finally moved up with my neighbors and has them wrapped around his paw. He opens their door and walks in, opens the dryer door and crawls in the warm laundry, he has answered the phone for them (unfortunately the caller didn't understand "Yeeeooooooowwwww") Along with Khuay, Murphy, Willy and Dinglebeary are great cupboard door openers, furniture re-arrangers, and they also are great at opening drawers. Khuay is the only one with the aptitude for math, though Murphy does turn on the television and the lights on command.

He's got square and cubes down...if he doesn't understand the problem, he just shreds them! Of course he does that to boxes, bags and other paper products too. Thank God he hasn't discovered the toilet paper...he just loves the last few paper towels that are on the roll- I give those to him and I end up with the biggest snowfall in the room.

Cats are clever, I have always said that! One of mine ‘talks’ to me whenever I walk in the room and the other night, I swear this is true, I was sitting up in bed reading and my cat Rosie was snuggled next to me; I dozed off still sitting up with the book open in my lap and next thing I am being woken up by this little furry paw patting me on the arm! She did do it, I swear, she woke up me so I could turn the light out and sleep properly...She did!

I have cats that shake there head 'No' when asked if they want something. My one kitty Sky gets upset when she sees me get dressed because she thinks I am leaving for a long time. She hates to see new people come in because she thinks they are taking me away from her. She runs and hides and is sitting by the door when I come home. She will lay with me in the bed when I am sick and hold me down when she thinks I am not suppose to move. I broke my collar bone and she reated on my shoulder every day for two weeks. The doctor said he couldn't believe how straight it healed. I told him it was my cat, she had to have known I was hurt and not to move. He said amazing. That's what I thought. Animals are smarter than we give them credit for.

I don't have any cats now, but at one time I had four one was the smartest I've ever seen and one the dumbest. The smart one was a male and he seemed to know what I was telling him. I remember one time my husband put his glass on the floor and I told him to go tip it over and he did. He was always doing stuff like that. One time the stupid one somehow got caught in the rafters and he came up and got me and kept looking at me like "You have to see this". When I would take a nap, it was usually for an hour, and after an hour if I was still asleep he would come wake me up. It was like he could tell time, and understand English, but I don't think he could have done math.

I think the smart one did know the other one was dumb. He kind of looked after her. Course she was older when he was just a kitten so maybe he thought of her as his mother. When I fed them, he would stand back until she was done and then he would eat.

Your Oreo is just so2x clever. I wish I have the time to take care of a pet cat. I love cats; they are flurry, loving and so cute. I think cats tend to know what their owners are saying. They can pick up a phrase here and there. So what's next you going to teach him?

hi dawnald I cannot have a cat here unless I have the money to pay an extra hundred a month rent. but the last time I had a cat,she was grey with the bluest eyes. she had this weird way of waking me up. she would get on my chest, and watch me, when my eyelids must have fluttered, she would put a paw on my lips, and if I did not wake immediately she would pat my forehead with her paw. so that would really wake me so the moment I sat up she would run to the door, and as I made my way to the door, she was already in the kitchen by the electric can opener. standing there as if any moment she would put her paws on her hips and say well what are you waiting for? I am hungry. In all the time I had her, she never once scratched my face, she just put one dainty paw softly on my lips and if that did not do it, she put her paw on my forehead. so I would wake up and look straight into those blue cat eyes.wow what an awakening and by then she was always purring. We moved to an apartment so I had to end up giving here to a dear friend of mine. it really broke my heart but we could not have a cat in our apartment.

Well I don't want any of those strays that might turn up either then. All they do is hang around in the communal bins being fed by tourists and breeding like mad.
