Whenever i want to buy some provisions or vegetables, I used to go to Nilgiris Departmental Stores and buy what ever I want because i will get all the things from provisions to fruits and vegetables and bakery items, milk and curd. What about you?Do you shop from one particular shop or different shops?

Hi vathsala! We try to buy the groceries from single departmental store because sometimes it becomes difficult to go to different stores. We also buy our weekly stock of vegetables from the vegetable market once in a week and we usually do our vegetables and fruits shopping on Saturdays.

Hi deepak I agree with you that going to different stores for different is not only time consuming but boring too. We too get the weekly fruits and vegetables from the market. On sunday we will go to the market and buy our weekly fruits and vegetables and the monthly provisions will be bought from the wholesale store.

Hi Vathsala, I hope you noticed the word "we". :) Well, that is Deepak's way of shrewdly taking credit for his better half's wisdom. :) Some mothers do have them, you know. LOL.

Hi Deepak, I was kidding. :) Well, it is a wise thing to do! Actually, I read somewhere that by reducing the frequency of visits to departmental stores and opting to purchase from a single store, we actually reduce our expenditure by a decent sum! This is because every time we visit a departmental store or multiple store, chances are that we might pick something that we dont really need from there. It may seem to be a small amount, but 5 to 10 purchases like that make it a tidy sum! And multiply that by 12 to get the yearly figure, and you will start regretting it almost immediately. So, your better half is truly a wise lady. :) Departmental stores would want you to buy like that. Their displays are meant to make you feel like purchasing. So there is a conflict of interest here. :) In any event, I prefer to order monthly groceries at one go, as it saves me time visiting the stores more often, and there is a home delivery system for larger purchases. :) And Deepak, you deserve the BR - wish you'd mentioned it was your better half's idea though. :( But I hope you do hold all those vegetables every week, while she bargains with the vendors. LOL. Happy mylotting. :)

I do not have a Departmental stores near my house. Hence I have to buy all the things in different places. But in my earlier quarters, me and my husband used to go to a Departmental stores and buy all monthly provisions once in a month. Milk was supplied to houses by our welfare society and curd I was making at home.

If the departmental store is not nearby our house, then it will be a problem. We need to shop in different shops, which is time consuming and boring. We normally go to one particular shop where groceries are sold at wholesale rate and buy the entire monthly provision. Milk is supplied by milkman and curd, ofcourse I will set it at home.Vegetables will be purchased in Reliance Fresh.

I buy things from different Department Stores and convenient stores. Yes, I do have a few favorite Departments Stores. I go there when I have the time and when I need some very specific items which are available there only. But, more often, I just have to drop by at the convenient stores located close to my house, because I get back home from work quite late on certain days.

Hi greenline We too buy the things in the nearest convenient stores only and sometimes we do not get our particular brand or some times we do not get all the items we want. So we will go to another stores for the things which were not available here. Thanks for your response and keep responding my friend. Bye.

Hi neelima Even we buy once in a month, all our provisions in some reputed store, mostly buy and save stores, where we can save a considerable amount since it is a wholesale shop. Some times if I get any canteen card or metro card, I will buy soaps, surf, cornflakes, milkmaid, phenyl, and oil etc. for 3 months as every now and then It is not decent to ask someone. Vegetables and fruits, I will buy in reliance fresh or greens and grains in malleswaram

Hi priya I came to know through the news papers that total is giving at a cheper rates compared to the market price. But total is very far from my place. So I go to buy and save shop where we get good quality at a cheaper rate compared to the MRP. There itself reliance fresh is there. so I buy vegetables and fruits for 1 week from there
