Because my belief is that people outside my country don't know much about Romania. Prove me wrong! ...Or right...

Hi cub, dont be surprised to find me responding to a discussion that is four years old. :) I just got a few hours to kill before my next assignment is downloaded. Then I sleep. :) Well, first and foremost, I was surprised with the history of Romania given here. I thought your country had Ivan the terrible or somebody. Or was it the impaler. Sorry wikipedia is not coming. But sometime ago, I did read something like that, and the word impaler used you today refreshed that memory. :) Geographic location is quite something I accept. :) Other things, you will have to confirm. :)

I don't understand the "wikipedia is not coming" part... Did you mean that the site was not loading? That it wasn't working properly? Ivan the terrible was in nearby Russia, but Vlad the Impaler (also called Vlad Dracul - "the devil") was a horrific figure for the outlaws and the enemy countries. I hope you didn't read that entire response I got that someone copy/pasted from Wikipedia... By this discussion I just wanted to know if the people around the world can pinpoint Romania on the map, or at least assign it to Central-Eastern Europe...

Ah! Yes, now I recall. Yes, Ivan the terrible was Russian, and Vlad the impaler your countryman! LOL. Unfortunately, I did read that entire post. :) And wikipedia is taking time to come - everything is opening rather slowly because of some downloading I've to do. :) Anyway, it is over now, and I am off to bed. :) Goodnight kid. :)

Hi Stvasile, of course I know where Romania is as if you need to ask. What I don't know is where your unresolved discussions are, as I can't find any. You really had a lot of quality responses here I must say, BR to a copied and pasted response but I can see your point. Please pm me your unresolved, and Vandana is dying to get her hands on some too. Happy New Year. Thea.

The BR post was the only one for quite some time, and it was also coming for a very good myLot friend at that time... You must have misunderstood my post in your discussion... I didn't say I have discussions that need responses. I said I am happy to say I have them all resolved, and because I know what it's like not to have any response I offer myself to respond other people's unresolved discussions. So I was waiting for others to send me links of their unresolved discussions, not the other way around.

Romania map - Map
No to be honest. I had an idea that it is in the eastern part of Europe. I knew that it touched the ex uSSR but I never knew that it touches Ukraine and Moldova. Romania is also close to Hungary, Serbia & Montenegro and Bulgaria.

I guess Romania is one of those countries you can't exactly pinpoint based on it's shape or distinctive features... It doesn't stand out like Italy for the boot shape, or the island states. It's just somewhere in Eastern Europe and it has a shape that doesn't really stay fixed in one's memory, because it doesn't resemble anything familiar. The Black Sea helps a little - people generally know Romania has a Black Sea shore.

I think it's normal from someone in India not to be so interested in the Roman Empire - after all, it didn't have a major impact on your history. Romania is very much connected to the Romans, the Romanian language, for example, has about 90% of the words coming from Latin.

I know it's in Eastern Europe - it's exact location I don't know. If I had 3 guesses pointing at a map, I'd be able to get it.

I know quite a lot about Romania because I am a big fan of Romanian gymnastics and have been for 30 years or more. I even named one of my daughters Emilia after Emilia Eberle. I hope to visit Romania one day. I am trying to learn the Romanian language as well.

Romania (Romanian: România /ro.m?'ni.a/) is a country in Southeastern Europe[1]. Romania borders Hungary and Serbia to the west, Ukraine and Moldova to the northeast, and Bulgaria to the south. Romania has a stretch of sea coast along the Black Sea, and the eastern and southern Carpathian mountains run through its center. The capital and largest city of Romania is Bucharest (Romanian: Bucuresti /bu.ku're?t?/ (help·info)). Romania has been an active member of NATO since 2004, and is also an acceding country to the European Union. The EU Accession Treaty was signed in early 2005, and Romania is due to join the European Union on January 1, 2007. Starting on January 1, 2007, Romania will have the seventh largest population and the ninth largest territory in the EU. The name of Romania (România) comes from Român ("Romanian"), which is a derivative of the word Romanus ("Roman") from Latin. The fact that Romanians refer to themselves using a derivative of Romanus (Romanian: Român/Rumân) is mentioned in scholarly works as early as the 16th century by many authors, among them Italian humanists travelling in Transylvania, Moldavia and Wallachia. The oldest surviving document written in the Romanian language is a 1521 letter (known as "Neacsu's Letter from Câmpulung") which notifies the mayor of Brasov about the imminent attack of the Ottoman Turks. This document is also notable for having the first occurrence of "Rumanian" in a Romanian written text, Wallachia being here named "the Rumanian land" - Teara Rumâneasca (modern Romanian Tara

I have notice that our country is being recognize only after bad stuff like ceausescu, comunism, dracula, and others, and not for our beauty as people and as a country in the real sens of word. Too bad!
