Oprah Wrapping Up

No kidding. "The sun will set on the 'Oprah' show as its 25th season draws to a close on September 9, 2011," Winfrey's Harpo Productions said in an e-mail to TV station executives Thursday evening. Seems like her show is not immune to drop in viewers ratings and after almost 20 seasons it is just sad to see this show go. I have enjoyed the show and just sad to learn such an ending. What about you? Have you any memorable episodes? Ref: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/19/AR2009111903649.html?hpid=topnews

I'm a fan too, but I don't think this will be the last we see Oprah. I am sure she will be doing something on her own network. Why should she stay with her current one? She may as well be generating that income for the one that belongs to her. I love the home makeover shows too, I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Nate either.

jewels49, I do not know about the starting her network thing, but I doubt so especially when she had just made a teary farewell announcement. Also, I just do not think so on the count that the show is loosing popularity as shown in the viewership ratings, which would be a bane for her if she is launch her network here. I think reality would seem to the logic of the day. Have a nice day.

I am not particularly sad that her show will be ending. She's been on the air for a long time, and she has managed to stay current and keep her audience. That's a tremendous feat. I'm sure she has tons of projects that she's had to put to the side because of her show and now she'll be able to focus on those things. Good for her. The one thing that I am more concerned with, living in Chicago, is I have heard rumblings that she might be relocating out of the city to the west coast. My favorite thing about Oprah is that she never up and left where she got her start, unlike Donahue and Jerry Springer. I guess we'll see what happens in a couple years.

uicbear, I suppose her shifting to the west coast is probably something of a commercial consideration. However, exactly how true on her setting up her own television network will left to be seen and I doubt the Oprah Winfrey reality show is going to be revived there. So, I suppose time will tell here. Take care.

I will miss the special celebrities that she has interviewed over the years especially like John Travolta and Brad Pitt. I will also miss the give away shows (not the screaming part)of it. I will miss the serious stories that she has done over the years from the weight loss shows, crimes or the illness people have come on to talk about. Not to mention her book club.

lelin1123, Talking about memorable interviews, I must recall the one where M.J. revealed his skin condition and the exclusive on Whitney Houston. Also, the time where she appeared after loosing her body weight, which is quite impressive and inspirational. So, like you I would definitely miss her charisma.

This is such big news in the world of media. Oprah Winfrey has made such an enormous accomplishment. A woman not born into money or prestige of any kind, who built an empire based on her own talent and drive. I know she rubs some people the wrong way because she's kind of overexposed, but it should be difficult for anyone to deny how impressive she is in terms of what she has built and the trust she has earned from people. Her generosity is staggering and I think she should be commended for her career and for her philanthropy, even if she were to retire completely after ending her show--which she certainly will not, as she is launching her own (pun!) network in 2011. I'm interested to see what her next steps will be.

I agree with you totally and I only wished that she had given us a hint as to what her next move will be. If she will truly have a show on her Network "OWN"

I have not been a fan of Oprah in a long time. I used to watch her years ago. So this announcement didn't really sadden me. I heard that she will be on the Discovery channel now. I have no idea doing what. And I have no idea if that was just a rumor or not. But another thing to think of.... Obama comes up for re-election in 2012. Part of her dropping out could possibly be to back up Obama again for re-election?

menolly22, I really doubt if her decision here is politics motivated. I just felt that the ratings have caught up with her show and that television network stations nowadays are fast and decisive when it is no longer commercially viable, I mean look at the number of television series terminating or discontinued prematurely. Yet, it will be interesting if she will be successful with her own television network, so till then we will just have to see off her show in 2011.

it's kinda sad that oprah will end her show. but as far as i heard from the news, she will have her own television network sometime next year (i'm not sure of the date). if i remember it right,it will be named, THE OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK. it is really sad that we oprah show will no longer part of our daily lives but hearing this news makes it better for it will give us better shows on its own network.
