Today I made cranberry sauce, this is so easy to do and I think it's one of the best things that is made for Thanksgiving. Just sugar, water, orange zest and cook for about 20 mins. Then I add the good stuff about two tablespoons of spirits, orange of course, put it to cool in the refrig and it will be ready for the special day, I always make extra to eat with cottage cheese and anything else I can think of to put it on. If you are serving kids substitute orange juice for the spirits.
You can find the exact recipe on the Internet, there are many more with more ingredients but I like the simple one.

Sounds yummy! My mom makes hers this way, but without the spirits. It wouldn't seem like Thanksgiving without it, but I also tend to eat cranberry sauce at other time throughout the winter months, too.

The one I am assigned to bring does not even have the orange zest or orange juice, though I have done that. I have also put diced apples and a little cinnamon in my cranberries. I am supposed to make it just like mom, sugar, water, boil it, put in cranberries, let boil for ten minutes, cool and store.

;Well this year I forgot to get the turkey out of the freezer, so since there is just Hubby and me we are having chicken and stuffing instead and will keep the turkey for another day. I sure am going to miss the turkey soup this week-end.
have a great day and thanks.

Hi savypat I just got done making cranberry sauce too..I have a 10 minute recipe that I make all the time. I start with 2 cups of cranberry, the juice and zest of one orange (today I didn't have an orange so I substituted with blood orange juice and the zest of a lemon,,worked fine) then I add 1/2 cup light brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar, 2 tblsp chicken stock (I use the rotisserie chicken stock, its dark in color and rich, delicious in cooking) and 1/4 cup port. You let the cranberries soften, (bring to boil) and add a cornstarch slury 1tbsp cs 1tbsp water and cook till thickend. Remove from heat and chill. Whenever I serve this to guests they all want the recipe. Its so fast and easy..why would anybody buy canned? Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours..J

I have never liked cranberry sauce, sad to say. I buy cranberries because I cook them and use them for homemade suet for the birds and squirrels.
However, when you add a can of cranberry sauce to a bottle of chili sauce it makes a fantastic barbecue sauce!! I tasted it in a store sampling and it's really fantastic.
