Sure alot going on in my community for the holiday. Our old penitentiary here has a garden that is decorated with lights. People can buy a ticket and walk through and see all the decorations and lights. We have several free dinners and the capitol tree lighting ceremony is on Monday. There is a soup dinner down in the Grove down town on Friday where you choice a bowl, buy it and get some free soup. All these are for our food bank here. I was listening to the news and didn't realize how many things we had going on. Do you have alot going on your community? Is this normal or does it seem like more than usual? What are your thoughts?

There's alot going on here too. There have been a lot of extra fundraising events going on because it seems that this economy thing has put a pinch on the homless shelters and the food banks. It's working though and it seems the community is really pulling together to raise the money needed to keep these things afloat.

This sounds just like my community. They always are doing something for kids and the homeless.

I know about several things that we have, but nothing so organized as you do. We give out household gift baskets, from our church. Many charities give out food baskets. Our community has a free dinner for everyone who wants to come. I do not know of any fund raisers for the food bank. Our library does "food for fines" a couple of times a year. Our mail carriers do a food drive as well. A lot of churches give monthly to the food bank.

I live in a capitol city which may have something to do with how organized we are. It sounds like your community does some nice things. Sounds pretty similiar to what we have here.

Nothing much. There is not much fun during Christmas. Some of the shops might have Christmas discounts. Its during Diwali that the city lights up.

I live in a smaller community so there isn't too much that is going on but there are a few things that they always do. We have huge snowflake lights that they put up on each light pole and then on black friday we have a christams parade with a few different floats and then Santa at the end and it will usually end up at the park where they have a huge christmas decoration display. I am sure there are a few other smaller things that go on that I don't know about but these are the bigger things. I wish there was a few more things for the kids but I am just glad there are those few things.

Our local newspaper had a section about Santa visiting! I believe there's a Christmas Parade, but we don't ever go to watch or participate. Small community here. Now about 20 minutes from here right across the county line is a light show full of decorations you can drive through and see. Tickets cost too much though, so we don't go every year. We went last year, so this year we'll probably stay home. It's the same thing anyway.

Yes Santa Was Visiting Businesses. I didn't read the article in detail though! We have a neighbor who could be santa! Maybe we should watch out, he may have his naughty list ready!

Santa visiting huh? We always have a parade. Too bad they have to do the same thing over and over.

I know that in the next town over the city will be light up the tree as well as have people singing Christmas Carols. Prior to this the park will be serving ham, chili and hot chocolate. Admission is an unwrapped toy. After festivities the local stores will be opened late so people can go shopping. I might go and look around in the stores, but I may not buy anything. It seems like it is more than usual, but with the economy I can understand. I think it is great that in spite of the bad economy that everyone is willing to pitch in and help those less fortunate.

I agree. I think it is very important that in times of need that communities pull together and help one another.
