me and my haunted heater

well i am hoping it is haunted. i recently moved and have discovered that one of my heaters refuses to be turned off, would be great if it was (smaller electricity bills, smaller carbon footprint) but i suspect more likely to be a faulty switch. however i have heard of somebody having a radiator that was always hot, even when it was physically impossible for it to be so. as far as completely unscary, and even handy, paranormal activity goes this is a good one. so what has been the most utterly non-frightening paranormal activity you have heard of or experienced?

Sorry jb but the only thing that seems not-quite-normal in my life is some of the threads here in myLot. Who call possibly call them normal? Fun, yes, but normal?

You think that eating 2012 ice creams while having a water pistol fight using pillows (which were used to eat some of the ice creams) as shields is NORMAL? (forget about the pizza - YUK!)

well cloudwatcher i assume you are not referring to this particular thread? utterly standard you will find, also notice how i cunningly incorporated 'pizza, icecream, 2012, water and pillows' to make it even more normal than normal...

Our house has something non-living staying here and odd things happen all the time most of which are not frightening but, a few are something that startle us when we aren't expecting it. Your question would be much easier to answer if you had asked the most frightening So, I'm leaving you with an unanswered question

LOL What's snarky? I've never heard that one. One night while laying in bed I felt something run up the bed and I thought my husband had let the cat in (the cat was so mean to me that I wouldn't allow it in the house) and I turned over and thought I would see the cat laying there and there wasn't a cat so I asked my husband if he felt what I just felt and he said yes and I asked if it was the cat and he said no. I turned on the light and nothing was in our room except for us. It wasn't that it frightened me, it was just really weird. This being also likes to touch my hair at night, sleeping or not, my husband is rather sick of me yelling at him for playing with my hair since it isn't him LOL

oh and i'm not being snarky zeph - just silly. had a poltergeist ages ago that scared me senseless, and heard a lot of inexplicable paranormal stories from people i know full well are not imagining things.

The most non-frightening paranormal activity I have experienced was in the ladies room of one of my previous offices. The building itself has a reputation, a sort of urban legend connecting the owner with a huge snake. Anyway, I was on the day shift so there were fewer people around our office. Since I worked in a call center, the place is usually packed with people at night. So I take my usual 15 minute break and do what I have to do in the ladies room. I am all alone and I don't mind. I wash my hands and proceed to the dry my hands. Our faucets are motion/heat sensored so it automatically turns on. The sink/faucet that I did not use suddenly turns on and I am all alone in the ladies room. I am not even near the sink for the sensor to detect heat from me or any motion from me since I am just standing drying my hands. I go out without a glance, fearing what I would find in the mirror. I just told myself that the sensor must be faulty.

Nope, I was the only one who experienced this. I still insist to this day that the sensor was going berserk that day. End of discussion.

call a priest. if that dont work, call a plumber. frightening paranormal? My mom used to have a light turner on-er. really made her mad when the light went back on after she pulled the fuse out of the box, so she yelled at it, used bad words.... No more light turner onner. I can't discuss it any more, I think I have PTSD from the whole experience.

rabbit, have you considered that the haunted radiator could be explained by one of the rats going missing in the move.

it isn't a radiator, the genuinely haunted radiator belonged to somebody else. it is an electric heater. and thankyou for your concern but the rats are both fine and enjoying their nice warm home.

Don't you worry they might electrocute themselves if they gnaw through the electric heater wire which is electric and could electrocute the rats.

thea, i am a responsible pet owner. the rats live in a very large cage and are only allowed out when i am there to keep an eye on them - which is always fairly pointless because they only go out for about five minutes, then return to the comfort and snacking opportunities in their cage. they are not really the most adventurous of beasties.

i have never witnessed any paranormal activity. maybe i am too careless to take notice of such things. i would suggest you get rid of the haunted heater (get it fixed) or else you will be haunted by bills (electric) and bill collectors....that would certainly not be a normal thing to be in....

I just wrote a post on this very thing. When my grandson was a tiny one I think his long passed great and great great granmothers visited him. Around Christmas time 2002 my grandson who was only a couple of months old at the time began staring over at the wall and giggling when it seems not to be normal. He acted as if he was jabbering at someone when alone in his crib more than once. It just seemed odd and I think their spirits came to visit and welcome him (their first grandson) into the family.

Why interesting? Why would a child need to be scared? Not scarey! Not opposing him! No reason for him to be afraid.

the event was interesting. not the child not being scared. if the child was scared then i would have said it was a bit scary, not interesting.

Well this hasn't happened to me but wouldn't it be fantastic if you had a ghost that did all the cleaning for you. Can you imagine waking up everyday and going downstairs to a spotless, shiny front room, fantatic! It could also do the ironing for you, wrap all the Christmas presents that are sitting in the cupboard and even cook your tea. Oh, well, I can dream can't I?
@kelly10 (678)

It was all very tongue in cheek my comment. I have lived in three haunted houses and have had many experiences with the supernatural and have spent a lot of time reading about the subject. Through all this I know what a ghost can or can't possibly do.
@jb78000 (15139)

and sadly i fear that doing all the housework may not be possibly for your average ghost . anyway from your reading and experiences what do you consider IS possible for a ghost to do.
@jb78000 (15139)
28 Nov 09
i don't think this is likely to happen. poltergeists prefer to make messes by chucking plates and things around. ghosts don't really do much physically, although i've heard of one that tripped people up. quite a scary one actually, a tour guide friend (doesn't make things up btw) was taking a group past an area supposed to be haunted and a woman tripped, thing is a little girl (who didn't know anything about the supposed haunting) was pestering her mother by asking why that little boy tripped the lady up. later it was discovered that a lot of people had experienced encountered this ghost brat before. now if ghosts are capable of doing things like this they certainly should be capable of doing a bit of cleaning now and again...

Its really frustrating when your appliances or any other electrical stuff won't work right. I don't really know if it could be caused by paranormal activity. Sometimes I wonder if ghosts are really watching me everyday.

some are inexplicable but this on the other hand is i fear sadly simply a faulty heater. well if ghosties are watching me they are probably going to have a fairly boring time. i don't think i could ever really get paranoia - if i felt ghosties, or the secret police or whatever, were watching my every move it would just make me feel important

Hi Jb, an electric heater that won't turn off sounds pretty good during the cold months and a hot issue during the warm months. I live with my sister who has two young'uns and the house is filled with the latest toys that move, talk and sing and cook, you know what I mean, well every night after making sure all the said "alive" toys are turned off, I will hear something, I think it's paranormal, my sister thinks I am abnormal. She says that it must be one of the toys...but I think maybe it is one of the "toys" possessed. It's not overly frightening as that the house is new and I do not believe a passing paranormal creature decided to come stay with us but for the life of me, I can't find the thing that comes alive after its been turned off. Different each night as well, sometimes music, others talking, nothing audibly understandable but it does provide entertainment as I regal the morning breakfast with the newest gossip from the "toys that come alive".

eeek. toys that come alive - 2nd scariest thing after clowns. have you tried taking the batteries out though? however the not quite audible talking sounds odd. you need to do some tests - see what they get up too without any batteried, or locked in a cupboard out of earshot. if you could be bothered that is...

Jb, this is not an exaggeration, their house is a virtual toy store. The kids have a total of 14 Aunts and Uncles, then the grand parents, 5 grand-aunts and present-buying-crazed others...I have tried to locate the toy I think is "speaking" when not energized to do so and taken out batteries. I have replaced batteries and put all toys in the barrels they are being housed in and shake the barrel to see if motion will set anything off but its always one toy that just doesn't get the idea to go to sleep when its night. Sometimes its the batteries on its last legs that will muster its tiny little shock of electricity as a testimonial to its good long lasting power and then empties so that in the morning it appears not to be the culprit since now it doesn't work with the on/off in either position. Now I am immune to it having gotten used to the odd noises here and there. I do agree with you that CLOWNS are the most frightening. Thank goodness there are none in the house, my sister shares that phobia with me.

the most paranormal activity is going to a therapists office. there are so many reasons for things that one can't think straight. like who's who? who's the saine one, especially if you're the one accused of being insaine, and you notice patterns that are unwell in the other. what i hate about paranormal unsanity is that sometimes sanity is better than unsanity. but really what i mean, is that to be saine is to be more direct i think.
@jb78000 (15139)
22 Dec 09
i am not quite sure what the point here is. are you saying that paranormal experiences come from insanity? i think i can say that is not true - my heater is certainly not haunted but the people who own the one that is a bit strange are not in the least insane. nor are other people i know who have experienced odd things.

Non-frightening? Oh boy, that's going to be hard. Most of my paranormal experiences have been at least a little scary. I suppose my one experience that wasn't terribly frightening was when I was at my sister in law's house [she has a haunted house, we all swear] babysitting the kids. I turned to go into the bathroom looking for Jordan, and the closet door opened up behind me slowly. When I turned around and yanked the door open to surprise him, there was nobody there. After that I went into his room and there he was! Later at lunch, I asked him how he could disappear so quickly from the closet. He said he wasn't in that closet, he'd been hiding under his bed. But I couldn't find him so he got bored and came out of hiding. [That was the point where I got a little creeped out].
@jb78000 (15139)
28 Nov 09
ok, that one is perhaps a little unsettling but not very scary - so what else has made you think that your sister's house is haunted then?

I have never had any hunted electric appliance, and I don't believe in them either. But it's pretty annoying when electric appliances stop working. It happened recently to my photo camera. The lens got crazy and after moving nonsensely for a few minutes, the screen would look blind.

Hi, jb. It would be when my lights were turned off.. Sometimes, I will leave them off and walk out of the room only to come back and see them on. I be thinking that some unknown force is turning them on.. But, it is me that is leaving them on. I hope that I am right about this one!

I have a haunted refrigerator. It make a "thunk" noise every evening...only in the evening...but not at the exact same time every evening. My husband has looked at it...tinkered with this and that...and it's fine...except for that clunk. I joke that the ghost is getting ice for his evening cocktail. I wonder what would happen if I ran out of ice?

heard of a ghostie that occasionally left a smell of perfume lingering around - in house occupied by two men who most definitely did not wear perfume. obviously getting ready to hit the town, probably visited your fridge afterwards for a quick preparty drink.

While visiting a cousin at her new house in Redland, AL, I got chilled and stood in front of the heater to warm up. Suddenly all around me flames were devouring the house while I stood and watched. Just as quick, the scene disappeared and my cousin and brother were still sitting on the sofa, drinking coffee and chatting. I asked my cousin if she had fire insurance and told her what I saw. She and my brother laughed, saying I had gotten to close to the heater. Two months later, she and her family were at our house, except for her dad, who wasn't feeling well and had stayed at her house to rest. We were sitting outside talking when we saw the sky light up in the direction of my cousin's home. We jumped in our cars and took off. Her house burned to the ground, due to a faulty wire in the refrigerator. Thank goodness, a neighbor got her dad out in time. Since then, I've had a couple of times when I knew something was going to happen and it turned out to be true. I'm just glad it's not like Medium or Ghost Whisperer! I couldn't handle visions all the time. It's way too nerve wracking.
@jb78000 (15139)

I have a haunted bathroom, always hearing a drip drip drip that seems to be coming from outside. All houses seem "haunted" when they get quiet, especially at night. And...if I leave opposing windows open in the apartment, the bedroom door slams itself shut. I joke about the bedroom ghost a lot! Karen
@jb78000 (15139)

somehow i doubt either bathroom drip or the slamming door is a ghostie karen. and i agree that most houses get lots of creaks and squeaks at night, especially old ones.

That's pretty weird. Was the heater in the house when you moved in? and if so, is the house kind of old? My family's house was built in the 1940's, and the heater/ac in it (isn't as old as the house) is pretty old. It's always acted weird, and won't change even when electricians come to try and fix it. It comes on at odd times and only blasts either really hot or really cold air.
@jb78000 (15139)
28 Nov 09
i've only just moved, it is a flat in a fairly old building, i'm guessing though that the heater is about 20 years old and just needs fixing. the radiator that i heard about though WAS very strange. this unfortunately probably isn't...
