hijugsjugs oh indeed I do and I had a wonderful little heavy metal device that fit over any size jar on matter how big and you twist it and zoom its open.now the only problem is its buried someplace in storage with all my other kitchen stuff. well right now I do not need it as I am in this retirement center but when my son gets a job and some money I am moving out and back into our apartment some where.

Jugs won't comment here Hatley but I'll add my 2 cents worth. I had a gadget but it broke. I keep a stack of thick rubber bands for this job. Fix one around the lid and you have a super grip. Rubber dish washing gloves work too. I also sometimes use a heavy handled knife and tap firmly with the heavy part around the rim of the lid in a couple of places....this knocks the air lock out. If all that fails, I run the lid and top of jar under hot water for a minute...this is a bit wasteful though so I avoid it. I hope something happens soon for you so you can have all your things around you again. Hugs to you.

When I'm opening jars, it usually comes down to the fact that about fifty percent of the time I am able to open them without any help whereas the other fifty percent of the time I get frustrated and end up having to get my husband to open the jars. I don't have a really tight grip so I think that is the majority of the reason that I have problems getting jars open. Then sometimes I refuse to give certain jars a try because I'm afraid that I will end up wearing whatever is inside the container (like pizza or spaghetti sauce).

Yes, I too have problems opening jar. I don't seem to have any strength in my hands. I have one of those rubber grippers that is round that I can sometimes put on the jar and open it with that. Most of the time I can't. I have to try and get others to open the jar for me. Happy Mylotting

Yes, I do have problems once in a while opening a jar. I usually get a spoon and tap on the top of the lid and around the edge of lid and then most of the time the jar will open. If that does not work then I get my husband to open the jar.

It depends on the jar. Some jars are easier to open than others, but some jars are just sealed on tight, and you have the use the "jaws-of-life" to get them undone. Sometimes, I have to have my boyfriend open some jars for me, and sometimes, I can open them myself. It's all about the jar.

Not any more. I finally got a couple of really good jar-opening tools. The one I liked did finally break after about 20 years so I bought an electric one. It does not fit every single jar, but I use a lot of mason jars for storage (with the white plastic screw-on lids) and it works on them as well as most food items that come from the grocery store, such as your beets. I like not having to hold the jar and get splatted when I hear the lid go "poof!" Of course I waiting until they were on half-off sale. It takes up a lot of room on my counter, but I don't mind looking at it because it is my faithful helper.

Sometimes I have a hard time opening jars and others I don't. I think it's easiest when you first get the jar and then harder later once different people tighten the jars. Then again I also think the refrigeration causes it to be harder to open a jar!

Not really. When I feel my hand becoming slippery, I will get a dry towel and wrap it around the jar. This seems to help me. I will make sure that hands are strong and my strength is hard on the jar. If I can't do it, my husband will. I have also tried running hot water on the jar to loosen the stiffness of it up. This may help to. Try this. You may need to get one of those jar openers. I know that they sell these in The Harris Carter catalog.

Yes, I have trouble opening jars. I have very little strength in my hands, which I blame on my combination of arthritis and MS. Sometimes I can't open jars that have been opened before. That's when I take it to my husband. My daughter got me an electric jar opener for Christmas a couple of years ago. It has been a big help, but some jars don't fit. So far, my husband has been able to get lids off each one of those too big, too small or odd shaped jars by breaking the seal with a table knife.

One Touch Jar Opener - The absolute BEST jar opener I've EVER used!!! It only cost $19.95 USD & is worth EVERY penny!!!
Boy do I have a suggestion for you!!! It's the BEST $20.00 I've ever spent!!! Only thing I don't know is if it's sold there. Here it's a "Made For TV" item sold in any store that sells the "Made For TV" items. You might be able to find one on amazon or ebay. It's called the "One Touch Jar Opener. A one year old can open practically ANY jar with it. You just sit it on top of the jar & press the button. The jaws close & grasp the jar with another part that closes on the lid & twists. A second or two later you hear a pop & the jar is open. It takes several seconds for the jaws to open back out wide enough to get it off the jar. They cost $19.95 here but is worth EVERY dime!!! Here's a picture of what it looks like. My 85 year old Dad LOVES his. It won't open real tiny jar lids, but I've only found a couple of things it won't open. ALL you need do is hold it steady on the lid & your jar is opened!!!

Oh yes, I forgot, it runs off 2 AA batteries. The batteries last a long time unless you open a LOT of jars!!!

My late husbnd was my official jar opener. I could never seem to get them open. Now i try littlee tricks I have learned over the years. Tapping the jar was always a good way to loosen the jar when i had to rely on myself. If I can find a strong man around, I'll let him open the jar for me.

Ah, yes. Lacking a rubber husband (those round, flat rubber discs made for this very purpose), that is one good method. As we all know, this is the prime job description for husbands, right? Well, that & taking the spiders outside... Maggiepie "GLOBALLY ACCEPTABLE 'TRUTH'" IS UNAMERICAN!

I used to have trouble opening jars. Then my sister got me this little plastic gadget, I can't describe it exactly but it looks a little bit like a bottle opener, nothing fancy but it works every time. Since then she gave one to my cousin and my daughter in law as well. It is totally marvellous. I think she orders them from a catalogue that sells houseware stuff and gadgets. Lately I have trouble opening pill bottles and pop pills out of their foil sockets. So I ordered a pill bottle opening gadget and a pill popper also from a catalogue that sells unusual stuff. I have not tried those as yet.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and so my hands are very week. I do have a big problem opening jars and many other containers. I do keep a pair of scissors for those plastic bags that so much comes in. I live with two of my grandchildren and usually one of them is around to help with those tough jars. I have tried hitting the bottom and the sides on the counter but still I can't open them. I have also tried those tools that are supposed to make it easier all to no avail. I would like to have a black and decker jar opener.

Not only jars, at times even taps! We used to have that brass type of tap with a horizontal top. I could never open the tap. One of my bosses often had to get up and open it up for me. Similarly, I get the threads of jars all wrong. I am so glad to have company on this. :)

...Hi jugsjugs, Jars are put on so tight as to make them child proof, which sometimes makes them adult proof as well. So when a jar is very tight, I will take the handle of a butter knife and hit the jar top all around the edge, not too hard but hard enough. This will loosen up the top and then you can open it with a little force. If it is something that can be refrigerated, I will sometimes make a cut in the top of the lid, just a small hole with the tip of a knife, letting the air out, this will usually allow you to open the jar. Take care.

Turn it upside down, and beat on the bottom (while still upside down) so the air would go up ( it will help to push the lid later on). Then put the lid (the lid only, not the whole jar) under running hot water. Or just put the side of the lid carefully for a couple of seconds on top of a small fire ( from your stove). Then open immediately using a jar opener or just with a dry cloth around it. It always works for me.
