Hanging a present

My brother gave me a very nice picture frame with his picture in it. Now, I have to say, it was a very nice picture of him. But... Well, I had this lovely laser cut (I think) cat in wood that I've been hanging on to for years hoping to find a nice frame to put it in... And this frame fit PERFECTLY! So, now I have a very nice picture on my wall, and it isn't my brother.... He did say he wouldn't be upset if I put a different picture in it - glad to hear that, otherwise that lovely frame would be wasted! You do that? put different pictures in frames you get? I don't generally put a picture in a frame so they know they can put what they like in it!

I have it still in the frame, behind the cat picture (see response #20 to see the picture) I don't have children so OBVIOUSLY I also don't have grandchildren, and I mostly have original art on the walls, or hand colored prints.

LOL--typical that you would rather have a kitty image than your brother in that frame... What I sometimes did in the past is recycle those wooden plaques that one can hang up...I would take the photo that was glued onto the plaque off (by soaking it awhile) then glue on a photo of one of my cats onto it--I especially did that with former kitties that are now in Rainbow Bridge

Awww, Pye.... That's just so sweet. I wish I'd thought of doing something like that. I mostly have only my memories to look at & remind me. I will say, however, that my memories stretch back to diaper days...& I was out of those at age one! Maggiepie MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Oh Elic, did you give me a good laugh today! I have already switched frames many times and the other artwork or pictures looked better in the other frames, so I really don't see no harm in it at all. Why did your brother give you a picture of himself if you don't get along. I think that's funny in itself, especially when you say you don't want to stare at him all day long, haha. Glad to hear your kitty lazer cut looks good in it!

Well, I think my brother got the pictures for several reasons, not the least is to have a nice picture for mom, his daughter and his girlfriend. Going the easy way out, he just gave my sister and I copies too. If you check response #20 you can see the picture in the frame - don't know why the frame didn't make it tho...

I don't think it matters if you switch out frames with different pictures. I do think that maybe you need one of those digital picture frames that lets you look at different pics all the time. You might check into one of those.

The only times I gave picture frames the pictures were the real present, I just put them in frames. One time was my wedding picture and I gave some friends a picture of all of us. I would have been upset if another picture was put in either frame. Maybe you should get another frame for your brothers picture and then you'd have a nice picture of him also.

Hun, if you knew my brother's and my relationship - well, you'd understand, its had well over 40 years to go sour and he displayed one of his little tempers at Christmas that just reinforces why I don't get along with him... To read a bit more maybe you should check out these old discussions... http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1179287.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1180329.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1189471.aspx http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1189698.aspx

My brother and I don't get along either. I haven't seen or talked to him in years. The last time I talked to him he started telling me what exercises I should be doing for my physical problems and I told him I didn't want to talk about it. He said he didn't want to talk about anything else to which I replied "Then I don't want to talk to you" and he said okay and hung up. I haven't talked to him since. I can't imagine him ever giving me a picture of himself. If he did I probably wouldn't put it up either. In fact I might tear it up. Most people don't feel the way I do about their siblings and I assumed you didn't. I know sometimes people say they don't care, but they do, and that's why I suggested another frame for his picture.

I'm not that bad with my brother, but mostly because we kind of agree to disagree and don't fight because it upsets mom. I expect that when mom goes, the ONLY time we'll see each other is when my sister comes to town - and she probably won't come as often as she does now - 3 times a year.

Sure, we've done that before, although I forget with what. I personally see nothing wrong with that. Another thing though it was good you asked your brother first. Rather be safe than sorry.

actually, he volunteered that he wouldn't be upset if "we" put something else in it - I did actually leave the pix in the frame, behind the new picture nearly all the pictures in my house are either original artwork or hand colored prints - this cat is one of the few things that could be, more or less, mass produced.

Yes. I have done that before also. My daughter got her senior pictures done this year and she gave them out as a Christmas gift. We got the portfolio and I just love it. I can set it out on the counter.

No I don't do that because I'd fear I'd offend the person when they saw it next. I'd have to ask where he got it and go buy another one to put his picture in so he wouldn't know the difference. Some people say things that they don't really mean to keep on the good side. I've given picture frames a time or two but without my picture in it so they can choose what to put in it and I've given frames with our picture in it.

I have lived in this house for over 25 years and my brother has NEVER been in it. The chances of him coming in and being offended are NIL.

hi elidBxn oh yes I have done that and I w as going to say if your brother was upset with you you might find a similar frame and put his picture in that instead. He sounds like its okay with him however. Ihave done that a lot of times as some things just seem to go with certain picture frames.

Well, now, that's true enough! Some colors just go together better than others, plus some frame styles suit different subjects more than others. I would have kept the pic and used the frame, separately, but I'd have also framed the family member's pic & put it up, as well. But maybe that's just me. Maggiepie MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

You didn't say in what room you hung the cat picture. If it was hung in the living room, maybe you could buy a plain frame for your brother's picture and hang it in your bedroom or a hall. If you hung the cat in your bedroom, then, I guess you'll have to put your brother's picture in an album. Due to my husband's preferences, we have our walls practically papered with pictures of our 5 grandchildren. Yes, I do switch pictures from frame to frame. For the most part, I don't remember which frames were given us and which I bought.

Well, bellis, I don't really have a "living room" as most people know it, the one that other people would use for that, I have for my crafting stuff - and that is where I have it and I sure don't want to look at my brother in my bed room! and there is virtually no wall space in the hallway - the only 2 bits of walls we do have one has the household calendar and the other have a couple of mirrors and some other decorative stuff And I doubt my roommates want to look at my brother any more than I do! One has never even met him!

Hi Elic, What a good idea that was, I often do that myself, I normally get a pricture of flowers in a nice frame and it is often used for other pictures that I like, well why not? save going out and buying frames. Tamara

No way i would do this if i had a brother he would be more important to me than any other picture i had. I would asked him where did you find this frame. Explain to him you need this size frame for a picture you had for a long time and are not able to find one that size. If i was your brother i would think that you love the plan of picture more than you love me. Sorry but this is my opinion. I don't have any sisters or brothers. But i cherish every picture i do recieve from friends and family.

now, you, since you don't have a sibling, might not understand - my brother and I have a complicated relationship Honestly, he messed it up when he was 13, and hasn't tried really hard to fix it. I tried, but gave up, and now, over 40 years later, I just don't see the point in trying to change him, or me. its not like I use it for dart practice - like one respondent said she does/did, I have the picture safely behind the picture I have in the frame, I just figure that I will enjoy looking at a cat more than I would my brother. Honestly, the more I know of people, the more I love my cats...

I wouldn't put different picture ibn the picture frame my brother had given me for christmas. I don't enjoy picture frames all that much. If I had some I probably would keep them put up so they wouldn't get dirty. I like how all of them have a bunch of memeories in them.

Elic, frankly I'm always puzzled about just how it is you really feel about dear ol' bro.... You act like he's awful, but you say you love the guy. I'd have left his picture in it 'til he wasn't there (y'all don't see one another much, after all--& I'd bet the farm he never comes to your house! ), & then put up the cat pic, & if he did ever come over, I'd cheat & put his pic back, only to remove it after he left! I know, dishonest of me, but I hate hurting people's feelings. He may say he wouldn't care, but lots of people will say things like that to mask tender feelings, Elic. Ask yourself, how would you feel if a family member did that with your picture? Family is important, hun. Even rascally big brothers. Maggiepie MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hey Elic! I think that your brother would understand perfectly! How could he not? He absolutely knows how much you love your cats and he did give you the option to take his picture out of the frame anyway? And by the way, that was kind of vain of him to put his picture in a frame that he was giving you as a gift anyway! lol So, I think you did the right thing! It was given as a gift to you and you can do with it as you see fit! I wish you could show us this picture! It sounds absoutely beautiful and perfect! Enjoy your gift! Hugs, Opal
