One liner Posts? A waste of time.

Is there any good in posting one liner discussions when you know very well that they are bound for mylot bins? I have noticed that mylotters are still adopting to a question like posts which doesn't stimulate the intellectual mind of many mylotters. The past few days I received a couple of notifications in my email and to my disappointment they have been deleted as they are one liner posts. It could have been saved if the posters have packed a few more meaningful words to their posts and let the readers enjoy reading and responding to them. Some have escaped the watchful eyes of admin but they will not stay long before they too will be rounded up and deleted. But not after drawing in many responses which only make them suffer the same fate as the discussions that are deleted. Of course a one liner post is tempting as it doesn't need much brain juices to come up with a response but you respond at your own risk. Don't think it is a fluke shot and you'll escape the iron fist of the admin. The admin means business and they no longer tolerate on one liner discussions as it is more to spamming than a discussable posts. Would you response to one liner post knowing well that it will be wiped out? I have done it to some newbies discussions just to advise them that it is against mylot rules.

Hi Zandi! I have responded to new users too but it is not a habit. There is never much to discuss when a topic has only one line. I fear that too many users have not understood the meaning of 'discuss' and 'discussion'. Most of the one line posts are just polls or simple questions. Here we are not members of a question and answer site. If we want just question and answers then we should join one of those. Here we come to discuss. Of course to discuss means we have to read too. Writing more than one lines also means more than one line to read. Too much like hard work?

Hi diana, it is nice to meet you here as the first responder. I don't make it a habit to keep telling newbies. They should be aware of the rules of this site. I used to be a lazy reader for long posts and would only go for shorter ones to respond but this has changed and I prefer to read posts that has solid contents. I am learning to appreciate good writers who can mesmerize me to no ends.

The longer posts are the ones that give us something to think about and therefore something to respond with. Usually those are also the users who get back and comment to us so it makes it worthwhile for both sides. It was by chance that Iwas first here Zandi I just happened to refresh and you were there

i know that we can't start a post with few words, but i didn't know that one liner posts would be deleted. that's ture it's much easier to just write down one or two lines for a post. english isn't my mother tongue, i have to spend almost half an hour to respond others' posts. to start my own post, i'll spend more time. coz if i'll be very frustrated and sad if no one responds my post, i always spend time thinking about attracting topics before i start it. thanks for the hardwork of admin to delete those one liner posts, which guaranteed the fairness in mylot. and thank you zandi458, you makes me feel my hardwork is worthwhile.

Hi Canteen, I always appreciate a well thought out discussion and if I can relate to the topic well I will definitely respond. Mylot is serious in wanting to have good quality discussions for this site and weeding out one liner discussions looks like their top priority lately. I welcome their move and hopefully it will place mylot in the cyberworld map as the top social networking site where we as the citizens of this site should be proud of the achievement if it comes to reality.

Hi Canteen! Don't worry about spending so much time in writing a response. People will always appreciate a well thought response or discussion, just like zandi does and a few others. While doing so you get to learn how to improve your writing skills and of course your English. English is not my native or mother tongue as well but I strive hard to reach out to people and learn things from them. I'm sure in the long run you'll find yourself responding to discussions in a minute or so. Keep it up!

They should have read the guidelines before they attempt to post discussion. Getting their discussions deleted will only affect those who responded.

I've never understood the one line discussions. I don't respond to them, myself. If the person who started the discussion can't generate an opinion on the matter, why should I waste my time and energy? It's right up there with the one line answers that add nothing to a discussion but space to scroll past while reading the thought out responses. It would be nice if people actually read the rules before they started posting -- it'd probably clear up some of the clutter.

You are right. What do they expect from others if they feed the readers with one liner post. It is like asking a question and expecting for an answer. It only fit for kinder-kids to answer such kind of one liner post.

I had one the other day that really blatantly bro ke the rules about not making games part of a discussion. I did direct the poster with the one line to the rule about making a game a discussion. lost a point but maybe made the person read the rules.

What's your favorite color? I delete them too. What's the point of responding to something that you've seen over and over again a bazillion times?

I have not heard of that 'bazillion times' but learn it today from you. Question like what is your favorite color usually tipped the scale as they will hit the roof with responses but looks like they are finding it hard penetrating the gate of mylot now.

Since I started using e-mail notifiers, I don't see as many of those, I spend so much time on my friends' discussions that I don't get a chance to go over to 'no responses" and so on...

Huh, I didn't even know they deleted one liners =S. I only been here a day though so I'm still finding my feet. The thing is, most of the time there doesn't seem much to say to the topics. I guess I just have to find stuff I'm interested in. And as to your question, I guess I wouldn't reply if I knew it would just get deleted anyways.

i do that sometimes too especially when my time is just limited. i just want to show that i supported friend's post or just extending my appreciation on visiting my posts. i have noticed too that one of my posts used to have more than 100 responses but after a month, the responses decreases to 15 so i guess they all went to the mylot bin.

Hi Zandi, It may depend on the question; sometimes we can add something to that post, if so I may reply. But every time it won’t be like that so I may skip those topics. I think most of the time newbies are starting one liner discussions. If they post one liner as a response to my topic then I will inform them one liner reply won’t earn anything. However, I observed that those people are just coming and going and the people who are serious in mylot will surely observe others and post according to the rules.

They (newbies) should read the rules before posting as they will know what are the requirements of this site. Otherwise they should learn from the seniors here on the structure of discussions so they can emulate the style of writing.

Hi Zandi, that is one of the best change of mylot today. I would tell the truth that many timeS I posted few sentences. I have 4 or 5 discussions deleted right after my come back here in mylot. I had also notified several responses of mine that were deleted too because the posts were deleted because they had violated the TOS of admin. I was a member here 3 years ago and just decided to join the community a month ago. And it is my big surprise that the admin is no longer tolerating some sort of unhealthy posts. Way back three years ago, if I am not mistaken, there was no such event that the MyLot admin deleted discussions/posts and responses. Back to your discussions, because of that new policy (shall I call it) of admin, I am more watchful now in responding and posting. And I had just recently found out that the discussions of old mylotters (like yours) are more interesting and intellectual. But I am still checking of those discussions of new comers, even it contains few sentences or one-line post, if I found it good to talk about, why not give some few words too. Anyway, like me, they could also learn that if they wanted some earnings, they must do it well. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY.. LOL

Welcome back to mylot. It is a pleasure to have you back. Well, I think I joined at almost the same time as you and back then we were quite free as admin were quite flexible. But time has change and they need to enforce their rules here so as to make this place a free from spam site and more attractive to real lotters. Hope to have many encounters with you in your future discussions.

We can't help those who don't improve. Time and again they send in one liner discussions which only trap others to go down with them when their discussions get deleted.

I am not keen on one liners either but I admit I have responded in the past and probably ended up wasting my time. There are a couple of older users that do have the knack of posting a simple question and creating an interesting discussion but I’m sure they are typing more than one simple line! One liners are against the rules and the best thing to do is not to bother with them.

It wasn't that too strict before and that makes older users think the admin are still flexible on one liners discussions. They should refrain from posting one liner discussions as it will entrap others to respond which will eventually be deleted.

Hi zandi, I too dont understand why post oneliners....I have done it only when I have to thank someone may be at the end of a long discussion. But if I am taking part in a discussion I simply cannot put any of my thoughts in a singlke line, I need may be 4-5 or 6 lines. Sometimes a whole paragraph....I see many oneliners in reply and they dont get deleted by the admin. They probably dont get paid thats all...But I too am all for good discussion topics and some stimulating replies, in fact it need not stop there, it can go on as members add more of their views and opinions and thats how a discussion should be ...all the best

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, I fully agree taht Discussion should not be of one-liner. There should be some room for other to make responses. But this rule/Guide lies may be linient for new babes, say till they post fifty at least after that, they may be imposed such bindings. In fact, tehre are many here, who may feel like taking just boiled potato and raw vegetales, but old timers like you know better to make use of chilly and salt to make better taste.I am sorry, if I ever hurt you. I wish to take new members as well byguiding them with some sort of relaxation May God bless You and have a great time.

Discussions beginning with a single line infuriate me so much. It sort of limits the discussion and prevents it from flowing. Plus, it just seems lazy on the discussion-starter's behalf, like they put minimal effort into starting a topic

Hey zandi! I don't usually respond to one liner discussions not so much because I believe that they will be deleted, but because they are about anything! They have no substance if they are only asking a question! And that is not what a discussion entails, as you and I know! So, for me I much prefer the more "wordy" discussions! I guess I am the opposite of many here who prefer the "lesser the better" attitude! Since I can be rather "wordy" myself, I guess that is what I prefer~ I believe in reading something worth reading! Alot of my friends post rather lengthy discussions, but that is why they are my friends! That's what I enjoy! Tell me a story, tell me something worthwhile~ I believe that you feel pretty much the same way too, zandi~ Your discussions are always some of my favorites because they always have meaning and substance!

Yeah, friend responding to such discussions are just a wastage of time. I think, most of such one liner posts come from new members as almost all of them would be unaware of Mylot rules and not familiar with posting here. Even if its a good topic, they compress it in a question with what or which. There will be nothing more we, the respondents, have to say other than a one word answer. And there is no use with that, and absolute wastage of time... Great Day.

I don't usually respond to one line posts as they are not usually real interesting. It is difficult to begin a decent conversation with only one simple statement, although there are times it works! (true shockers!) However, I try to avoid responding to any questionable discussions. If I think there is a chance it will be deleted, I just don't respond!

I will reply to a one line discussion, but only under certain circumstances. The circumstances that I will respond to this kind of a discussion is when the one line that there is asks a question that is especially thought provoking. This in and of itself almost immediately rules out the majority of the one line discussions that are started. However, I have also seen that the majority of the one line discussions that are started also just disappear almost as quick as a blink of the eye.
