A few years ago when Himesh was just about finding his foothold in the Hindi Film Industry, he had made a statement regarding the great and probably the best singer so far ever , Mohammad Rafi - saying that he, meaning Himesh was as good or even better than Rafi, but, later he had to take back his words when everybody from the music world targetted him and criticised him.
Himesh is known to be arrogant and has an irritating nasal voice and is at best a mediocre singer who has come up solely because of the lack of any quality in Hindi film industry- songs or films, they are all atrocious.
Rafi is Rafi and there is just no comparison and definitely not to the likes of Himesh and his type of singers....that's my opinion and I am sure that most people would agree with that , after having heard and known both the singers..
Friends what are your viiews regarding this?

Hi Kiran!
Himesh keep making statements like this. He once told the media that he is better than Asha Bonsaley because he has sung more songs than her or may be he gets more income through his songs then Asha. There is no comparison between Mohammad Rafi and Himesh. Rafi's voice was unique and he has the knack of singing every kind of song, be it sentimental, emotional, peppy or romantic. Even the great Kishore Kumar did not have such variety in his voice or songs. Many tried to copy Rafi like his own son and some others, but they all were far far away from him. His songs can still enliven the atmoshphere and he has sung some 'ever green' songs, which you can listen any time. On the other hand, though Himesh has song some very good songs, but you cannot term those songs as 'evergreen', they would fade in due course of time. For that matter, today's singers are no match for yesteryears singers like Rafi, Mukes, Kishore and Manna Day and not to forget Mohinder Kapur. No one in today's generation can touch their level.
Good Post!
have a nice day!
Deepak

Hi deepak,I think it gives more dignity to a person when he accepts another's superiority and appreciates it rather than try to imitate and make such statements.Rafi is incomparable and will remain an icon for centuries to come growing in stature all the time, while Himeshs of this world will be easily forgotten in a decade or so...All the old singers were of a different class altogether...Thanks a lot for a detailed response and have a nice day deepak

Yes, Kiran you are very right, younger singers should have accepted that fact that they cannot match old time greats. They should by humble in accepting the truth.
You are right, Himesh will vanish soon.
I love music and Bollywood song, therefore, I could relate to topic and came out with my lengthy response........lol!

Hi kiran, I beg to differ from you. Himesh is already forgotten for his nasal singing, that is the reason he behaves like a brat so that he remains in news. At best, he will at least be remembered like John McEnroe.
And Deepak, you forget, Rafi saheb never had a nasal style in his repertoire - simply because he didn't need it. LOL.
Anybody who thinks they can match my favorites

Hey Kiran,
Well i agree with u to a certain extent. I love listening to old songs and mine favourite would be Kishor kumar , but we got to accept time has changed, and so is the taste of music.
People now a days wants everything fast and western music has made a huge impact on our music industry and on the mindset of youngsters of our country. Also there is no denying that u cannot compare 2 singers. Rafi was a great and himesh is good, as he is producing songs which public wants to hear. Its simple, when there is a deamnd there will be supply.
I personally dotn like Himesh too. But the fact reamins his songs gets public attention and produces money which is at the end most important thing in any kind of business.
Cheers,
Tutul

Hi Tutul, Thanks a lot for your response. I completely agree with what you say - in that times are different and tastes have changed. But What I am trying to say is that it is totally wrong for a person like Himesh to draw attention to himself and compare himself to old time greats like Rafi and Asha Bhonsle ...Just goes to show the kind of quality we have today in music and films

You have said it all.I don't think that I have to add anything new to this discussion. We just can dismiss and ignore the words of these nincompoops who really do not know what they are talking about. There is no comparison here.Rafi is one of a kind and the rarest gem.No comparison here.
