Minding my own business

Yep, I was minding my own business, mylotting - hoping that MAYBE I'll earn enough for another pay out this month - since I'm missing a day of work because of my car - and I get this IM from the other room.
"help"
Well, she doesn't NORMALLY need any help, so I don't bother asking what she needs, I just jump up and go in.
There she is with this big bag of pretzels - open and split on her lap!
"Get some bags" she asks.
I reach out and get some of the gallon bags out and come back in. I hold the bag open while she puts handfuls of pretzels into it. (well, I'd have to lean over to get to them AND she can hold an easy 3 times as much as one of my handfuls!)
After they are all shifted, I go bring in the dog to eat what is on the floor.
the roomie said "its a good thing you didn't go to work today, this would've been really hard to fix for myself!"
true, but if I had, I'd've been home around 4:30 so she'd've only been holding the bag for an hour or so...
So, have you been the rescuer for anyone lately or are you left holding the bag?

i have been fortunate that my hubby has been home of late. he is my rescuer as he is unemployed since last august. as of the beginning of january, the place where i work has changed the starting time from 9 to 8:30 am which means i have to rush around like nuts and get the kids out the door etc. plus, i have had thyroid issues and lately for me, getting out of bed has been darn near impossible!

Sometimes Hubbies are priceless. Sounds like you really need his help right now.

I just hang around and get rescued lately it seems. That is okay by me. Doctor wants me off work at least one more week.

hi ElicBxn oh I get stuck that way every once in awhile as I although my left arm is not able to lift above my waist, I am much more able than so many here. this one person who has had several strokes with resulting broken bones, is using a walker and trying to get the damnable front door of this place open, and the poor woman has one badly deformed hand due to rheumatic fever. so I come along and with my good hand and the elbow of my bad left arm, manage to get that sticking door open so she could get through with her and her walker. It never occurs to anyone here that I have problems myself with that door and could occasionally use a bit of help. Jess will hold it open for me when he sees me but none of the others. But I have learned the human rear end is also good at getting that damned door open.

Elic, remember the problem you had with the glass door at that center where my mom stayed? You needed rescuing, then, & yet you didn't even let us know you'd been hurt!
You're most likely the bravest person I'll ever meet. I know I could never sit still & not scream while I were stitched up with no anesthetic! YOW!

Left holding the bag, haha. Saw that one coming a mile off...
Nope, I don't think I've had to rescue anybody lately. I had to rescue a pill I had dropped this morning. Thing had a mind of its own. It rolled away from me and hid under a chair leg. We were laughing so hard...

Oh {{Elic}} Funny story there (G)!!
I can just "picture" this whole scene here...LOL!
And aren't dogs wonderful they just are so eager to come in and
take care of what we "humans" drop on the floor or on the bed or where
ever and they are always so happy to do it;
Nope I've not been a rescuer that I can think of for anyone lately??

DREAMWEAVER: Love that name--it's one of my top 10 all-time favorite songs!
It seems to me that 90% of all the dogs I've ever met, given one nanosecond's chance, become instant living vacuum cleaners. In fact, when it comes to it, I think before the crumb of food actually meets the floor, they're already locked & loaded, & ready to suck it up!
Dogs eat faster than the eye, if you hadn't noticed. If you want to test that theory, try dipping some cardboard in some beef juice, & put it on the dog's plate. Just see if it doesn't vanish in half a blink. Dogs go on smell & instinct. "It's on my level, therefore I can eat it. It smells like food; let's not question it. It might be food, & that's good enough for meee!" (Nom nom nom, gulp). "More, Mom?"
Cats, on the other hand, will follow the downward motion of what clearly appears to be a tasty morsel--eyeball to object--but then...they switch to slomo mode...cautiously approaching it, daintily sniffing at it, & as often as not, rejecting it--even if it's their favorite food!--for reasons fathomable only by The Cat. Go figure...

Not sure if I was really a rescuer or not, but I was trying to help.
This week at work I noticed a customer that had left the shop was trying to open the hood of her car. She was an older (maybe around 70) lady and I went out to see if I could help(not that I could fix a car). She knew just what needed done, had a wrench with her to tighten the connection on her battery but was having trouble with the hood. So I opened the hood for her, she did her thing with the wrench and when the car started I closed the hood.
If I hadn't shown up I'm sure she would have gotten the hood open. She said it's been doing this for a while. Maybe I was helpful, maybe not, but I was trying to be a good neighbor.

Nothing comes readily to mind, yet it feels like a familiar thing, so I'm sure it's happened...
Mostly, however, it's from the other direction, I think, that is, you helping me in one of my numerous emergencies, like the time you drove over to pick up that broken glass all over me & the bed (Well? I couldn't move!
).
Very funny, clever post, by the way. And I can just picture it!

Elic, sorry for going through MyLot main to get this to you, but I think my PM failed to go though! After I mailed it, I got a screen full of computer code gibberish.
Anyway, just wanted you to know I have several new replies in this discussion--some are to others. Go see!

Talk about left holding the bag, literally! I have been lucky to have my husband with me when I got a flat tyre on my car ages ago. I wouldn’t have been stranded too long had he not been there because I am a member of a car club and they would have come out and helped me as soon as I made a call but all the same it was nice not to have to wait and have it sorted out quickly and be on our way. Besides it made my husband feel good to play rescuer and he was chuffed when I said something along the lines of, “Thank goodness you were here, I don’t know what I would have done if I was on my own...”

Hi, ElicBxn
I think I am the rescuer. My hubby is new at his job and there are a lot of documents to be filled up, including those for the social security system and for the bureau of internal revenue. He goes around clucking about these forms and so I find ways to make his job easier by filling out the forms myself as draft so that all he needs to do is rewrite what I have written and submitting them to the proper agency.
Have to be patient
Have a nice day!

Not really many times. Like sometimes in a public place, you see someone who is holding too many things and could not use his or her hand to open the door, then I come in and give some help. This is not all the time though because most places have security guards to open doors for you. As to rescuing someone, that is good, helping others is always a good deed.

I'm glad you were there for her. My husband and I discussed the possibility of me bailing us out at the end of the month. haha
He makes twice what I do, so he give me a bit of cash when he can, but he borrows from me when he's desparate. It would be that way if I earned 200% more than he did, so it's not a gender thing. It just happens that he earns more, but spends faster.
I have money stored in secret places, and when I save us, I tell him "I just pulled it out of my @$$." haha So I assured him that I had enough "@$$ money" to cover us, incase something went up in the air this month, because we had a few large expenses last month.
And then there was the time I ran into my neighbour's apartment and pulled him out of there just in time to help him avoid getting stabbed by another neighbour. I know i could have called the cops, but they would have not gotten here in time. I had to do it myself.

oh yeah, there are times when you just have to step into rescue someone because, honestly, the police do their best, but they can't be there 27/7 when someone goes nutz!
I wish I had the bucks to help everyone, but one can only do what one can do...

My husband is usually rescuing me. I loose my car keys, a letter, all kinds of things. I can't see those things to save my life. But he finds them in a heartbeat.

Hi, ElicBxn. Yes, I have been the rescuer lately. I gave my husband some money for gas. He did not have it so I gave it to him. I have always came to his rescue. I can be the one holding the bag too. It just all depends on the circumstances.

Sometimes, it's good, or even, necessary to just mind your own business. It is advisable not to poke our noses too much into other people's affairs, especially private ones. However, this time, ElicBxn, you prove to be doing the right thing by responding to the call for help from a damsel in distress, instead of minding your mylotting. Hmmm... anyone here has the experience of holding something in your hands and not moving an inch for about 1 hour or so?
