They ought to outlaw automated phone systems with no "out"

Here I sit on the phone for half an hour, third call to the same number, in which I have been listening to "thank you bla bla bla someone will be right with you", peppy music, "we appreciate your patience and thank you for waiting during this brief delay", more peppy music, "thank you for calling so and so medical group", more music... Eventually the music stops and it starts ringing and ringing and ringing. When it gets to that point, nobody picks up. There is no option to leave a message or get to a live person, just hold, listen, wait. I'm not an impatient, pushy person, but I swear I'm about to drive on over there and get in somebody's face!

I agree with you 100% They are so annoying!!! Press this or it's press #1 for whatever press#2 for whatever and it just keeps going only to get put on hold for hours and hours then when you finally get someone on the line it's let me transfer you then you have to go through the whole d-- thing again!! What? I have the same feelings about that as you!! What ever happened to people just answering the D--- PHONE?

My bank used to play the the music from "The Sting" which always seemed appropriate.

Not only appropriate, but I'd rather listen to that than this stuff...

You might have to drive over there and let someone know their phone system is not working properly. Write them a letter and tell them about your experience. They are not going to know what is going on if no one tells them. Find a way to communicate with them. Telling a company you had a bad experience is not being pushy or impatient. They can only improve their system if they know what is happening. So if you tell them, you are helping them to be of better service to you and others.

We should all start a letter writing campaign. It would make us feel better at least. Maybe someone would take notice of all the complaints as well.

I did get through eventually and save myself a drive. And I told the person that their phone system was a mess. She was really apologetic and told me what they were doing to fix the problem!

We have quite a nice one to the telephone company, it helped me improve my Greek no end when I started with it. It's an exceptionally polite message. Of course I wouldn't appreciate it anymore.

I hate that to and it drives me mad, the other Day I had to wait half an hour and I was fuming by the time someone answers What these Companies do not realize is that most of the time they are not free Numbers and they cost, or if you are forced to use your Mobile that costs I think they should get rid of them they are more hassle then anything else

They are hassle, but they are cheaper to operate than hiring more people would be. Sad...

When you get a "Press one for..., press two for..." message, sometimes they wait till the very end of the message to tell you that you can just press zero for immediate help.

sometimes if you randomly push buttons the system kicks you out to a human. it doesn't work on all auto answers, but a couple of our locals it works on. that is annoying tho.you'd think they'd have a "push 9,and we'll call you back when we get off the stick" option.

Been there, done that! It's so annoying, isn't it. I wonder the person on the other end is doing their make-up, fixing their trousers up or am actually busy with work or perhaps lacking of manpower...I can think of many reasons while I listen to that nice ballad song, but going over and over that it's sending me shivers down the spine!

I think so too.. More people in the front-line means a more effective job done for sure.

When I was in the office, they were on the phone when they weren't helping people. I think the front office staff are doing the best they can, but they need to hire more people.

”Your call is important to us please hold and an operator will attend to you as soon as possible...” You’ve heard that message a dozen times or so and by now you have them on speaker because you can’t bear to hold the phone to your ear anymore and…Guess what? You get disconnected! Oh yeah! I am normally a peace loving person but at times like those I want to hurt someone...Anyone! It takes five to ten minutes to get through pressing numbers on the main menu and then you wait...And wait...And wait...And, nothing...

I know exactly how you feel. It happens so often to me to and it is the pits. I hope that y9ou did decide to drive over there and give them what for, for not answering the phones. If I have to call utility companies as the companies here will turn off electricity or water without you receiving a bill, I always call first thing in the morning and if I am on hold for too long. I then call the head offic and in my best British accent call the CEO's office and then let the bullets fly. They usually give me another number that the head office alone knows and I then keep the number to use again if I am put on hold! No flies on me! and if there were - I'd brush them off! (Brit expression saying that I was quick off the mark- I do not stand and wait for a fly to pitch on me) Stupid expression really -but there you go! Feeling silly today

Those are crazy and drive me nuts, too! The only out is to hang up or not to use them, but then you don't get to communicate with anyone about your original reason for calling. And even small businesses and my drs. office have gone to using that kind of system. And when you do get a "real" person, you're lucky to be able to understand a thing through their thick accents. Ugh. Karen

If you put them on hold, and come back after a while and notice that you have been hung-up. Call them back and ask them how it feels to answer the phone and find NOBODY IS HOME.

I found out the hard way that hanging up was the wrong thing to do. When I let it ring and ring and ring, I did eventually get through. But it was hugely frustrating...

I think it would give you some satisfaction to do this, but I hopeit would not get you arrested. It is very frustrating because this is an important issue. You would not be putting up with this nonsense if it was not.

Even if I had to drive a long distance, I would get in my car and go! On arrival, I would not be put off. I would stand there DEMANDING attention at once. I would tell them I'd be charging them with being accomplice to causing harm to a young girl and would be suing them for expenses if her condition worsened. No doubt you have already done this by now and have received satisfaction. Once the immediate conflict is resolved, I would also write a very polite but strong letter outlining the problems with the phone service and suggesting the bare minimum necessary to remedy a potentially dangerous situation. Maybe also a letter to your MP requesting an enforceable standard for all answering services?

I got through on the phone and got some information that was very helpful. And I did tell the person that the phone system was a nightmare. She said it was a new system and they were aware of it and gave me a list of things they are doing to improve it...

It seems you can't call anywhere without getting an automated phone system. I think it isn't very personable whenever you reach these things. I will usually try to push "0" to see if it will help speed up the process in talking to a human, sometimes it works and then there are other times that it don't work.

Welcome back! Sometimes that works, especially with big companies. I didn't even try it in this case as I just didn't expect it to work at a doctor's office.

I know, the call center I work for is like that. I can't stand that there is no way just to get to a direct person right away. It's like they want you to go in circles so that you will give up and just forget about trying to reach anybody so they don't have to deal with you at all.
