I love my gardening. Im just waiting for autumn to begin, then I want to put in a few more shrubs.
At the moment it is still very hot.
I am focusing on watering, weeding and mulching. I have a couple of borders I need to put around a couple of shrubs, to keep the water in.
The plants that are doing best in this heat are thec lavender and rosemary. Aboyut foyr lavender plants came up on the own, so as soon as it is cooler I will transplant them to better locations.
My lawn!!! It really needs reseeding, but again I need to wait for cooler weather.
What are your gardning plans at the moment? Do you have new shrubs, trees, flowers or vegetables to put in? Or are you focusing on weeding?
Im going to attach a photo of my largest Lavender shrub.

It is snowing here, but I am already planning on purchasing some roses to make a hedge in my front yard. I am going to get some Hellebore, there are 3 varieties available at an online store that are pretty reasonable. There's the Christmas Rose hellebore that will bloom in December/January, and the other ones are different varieties of the Lenten Rose that will begin to come up in the late winter, around February.
There are a few more plants I would like to get to put in my front yard to make it pretty. I'm trying to get flowers that will bloom spring to frost. The roses I am going to buy do begin blooming in the spring and quit in the fall and frost.
Your lavender is beautiful.

Roses are just lovely. My Mother has always produced beautiful rose blooms.
I only have two roses in my front yard. One is a natiuve, and I put it next to the archway. It seems to be doing well, so Im hoping by next spring it will beginning to climb right around.

I had the arch a long time ago, and nothing really grew aroiund it that I tried.
Finally, the roses are growing. They are maroon.

O, a climbing rose. How lovely. I always wanted one of those but I would have to choose whether to do a rose hedge or the archway. I'd rather spend the money on flowers rather than on the arch.
What color are your roses?

Just when I was giving up on planning anything due to labour problem I found a good gardener who is ever willing to do any kind of work. I have thoroughly cleaned up the garden and watering has started vigorously. I already have enough in my garden which only needs maintenance and this is what I was afraid I would not be able to do but that has changed and I am looking forward to each day with great enthusiasm.

Good to employ a gardener; they sre often experienced and know what works well. Weed pulling can be tiresome and if you physically cant do it yourself, a handy person is useful.
Your garden must be great if you are looking forward to each day.

My passion is gardening and I have a large garden that needs help. I have always had help and only in the last couple of months I was handicapped and getting labour these days is not quite easy.

I am not going to get very far with ornamental type gardening this year. I am going to be concentrating on growing vegetables. I had one raised bed of tomatoes and peppers last year. I hope to do more this year. I envy you the lavender and rosemary. I do not know if rosemary would be perennial here. Some types of lavender are perrenial, others annual. I would love to have fragrant plants out by the front walk so that people who walk past might brush against them and enjoy the fragrance.

My lavender is french lavender and is very hardy. I often smell the lavender or the rosemary, or even the eucalyptus when I'm out the front.
You are very practical growing vegeatables. My mother does too. Sometimes I am presented with garlic, tomatoes or capsicum.
I gave up on growing vegetables years ago, as I had too many problems with bugs.
Even with the strawberries I grow, something eats them.

There are plants that bugs and other critters do not like. One is Marigold. I do not know any of the others, but I'm sure you can find out from your local florist or online. Your region may have some that we do not have here in the US. You plant them sporadically throughout the garden to discourage the bugs and other things that would eat your crops.

I actually can't wait for the warmer weather to get here so I can get outside and start my gardening...Last yr we expanded our veggie garden, this yr I plan on adding a few more gardens to the property, a patio and some pathways...I'd also like to start doing some things out in our woods too...like planting shade flowers, having some paths and sitting areas etc...Right now I'm only able to plan on paper though since its still cold, snowing and yucky outside LOL..

Do you have your own woods? That would be amazing. I noticed that a lot of My Lotters grow veges. I dont, as its just too hot & not enough water.

Well I need to get out in the garden and have a very good tidy up, pull weeds up and pull tomato plants etc up, have been putting it off for ages. I also want to move some pots round and change the garden around ready to plant next year. I do a lot of condatiner gardening as our soil is not good.
I brought some house plants at the garden centre last weekend so I still need to replant them as they pots are too small.
I do like to garden and think the children do like to see the things grow. Our children have all had patches of gardens in our garden to grow things and dig, now there is only my younger daughter who is into gardening and she grew tomatos, cues and other things this year in her patch of garden.
Would like to carry on talking gardening with you onhere.

t was two years ago that I started this discussion. Your response reminded me of current plans I have for gardening.
It is very good that you encourage your children to garden. I always let my daughter have pot plants. Now that we have moved homes, she wants me to have a vegetable and herb patch. I am wanting tomatoes and capsicums, plus, parsley, coriander and mint.
I also need to repot overgrown pot plants, and a few of I am going to transfer to the ground.

I should have been out in the garden this afternoon sorting stuff out but I got sidetracked in doors with making some home made soup for tea tomorrow night, chesse and tattie pie for tea on monday and I did the ironing so the children can go to school on monday.
What are your current plans for your garden? I hope ot og to the garden centre tomorrow or in the next couple of days to get a few plants to go in the front garden. I'm a bit lazy about getting started in the garden but once I get going I do a lot.

Your lavender shrub is beautiful. I live in southern California and our season is almost year long. I just put in almost 20 flats of pansies and snap dragons in my front and back yard. I have a small patch of ground outside my sunroom that is a combination rose and herb garden. I always had a veggie garden growing up but for some reason I haven't ahd one since we lived in this house. This is the year for one. I'm getting the ground ready and yes, I am weeding out my beds. I love to garden.

Pansies and snap dragons are very pretty, they are perenials aren't they?

Roses and herbs are always a favourite. Im waiting for autumn to plant more shrubs.

They are perennials. I'd prefer annuals but I'm a sucker for all of the color that the pansies and snapdragons bring. My house is painted a cottage blue with white trim and the color sets off the house so beautifully.

Well, since buying our house back the first part of September, it has been too cold or wet to consider doing anything with the areas that need some gardening attention, and actually we are in the process of trying to decide what to do with those areas as well. We really want to remove some of the Blackberry bushes, etc. and plant maybe things like Corn or tomatoes, carrots, etc. and then clean up the rose bushes some, and even make an area for flowers, etc. as well. But it is going to be interesting and even if it does take a couple of yrs. to get it all how we want it, it will be worth it all as well.

I cant do a lot of actual planting in the cold either, as I found that the fare frost we got, killed new plants.
I dont know what blackberry bushes look like.
The respondant before you grows vegetablres as well. It is nice to eat organic home grown food.

my yard is pretty much a work in progress.
i mean to put in a new garden this year with containers, however the back walk needs entirely replaced.i'll have to see what time i have left.
i can't complain tho,it's like 100 year old concrete,it had it's life.
2 trees have to come down also.some kind of bug is eating at them.

White ants can eat trees too. Do you get those? I had a very large gum tree collapse on my roof and neighbours drive way, when the white ants ate it. It cost me $500 to remove.
It would be a big job replacing the back walk.

um..i don't..think so.i've never seen them.
we do have carpenter ants tho,i imagine just as bad.
i suspect it may be a type of beetle doing the damage.
yea,it's going to be,but it's time.
i can recycle the old concrete into something else,so that's a bonus:)
i think this time i may go for the pre-cast squares.funny, when they installed the old, they never put down any kind of sand/gravel.you can see earth underneath.

hi jenny, i've just made a garden at long last. it's only small, but it's got about 5 money trees, a lavender plant, couple of mint plants, a stevia plant, and a sage. i've got it all covered with pea straw, and use the washing machine water to water it. mind u i've also grown a beautiful weed patch over the other place where the water goes.

It is great that youyr have lavender, mint and sage.. such lovely smells, and it can be used in cooking too.
But what is a money tree?
I tried the pea straw idea for 3 years, but gave up when the local supllier closed down. It is a good idea and it siunds like you have very drought tolerant garden.

I don't have any plans about gardening right now because I live in an apartment in a crowded city. I don't have any place to plant trees or plants. My parents have a small garden. They have lots of flowering plants and also some vegetables. They have ladies finger, chilly, brinjal, etc. They love to grow plants and vegetables. It is good to have fresh vegetables taken directly from kitchen garden.

At the moment I am waiting for the snow to melt and pouring over plant and bulb catalogs. I know where I want to put the new beds and what I want to put in the new ones. Now if spring would just get here so I could start some seeds to get a jump on some of the planting, life would be complete.

Bulbs are beautiful. I planted the occasssional bulb each winter, and some have spread, so by spring I have a pretty display. They dont last long in flower though.
