New national ID proposition

First, I thank my legislators for making this illegal in my state. We do not allow the issuing of any REAL ID or national Id type cards, so I don't know that this will effect us (not sure yet). But it seems the latest by our statist congresmen, is a national ID that would include biometric information. This is being put forth by Senators Chuck Schumer D)and Lindsey Graham(R) and may be part of an upcomming immigration bill. I am all for controling our borders...but this goes way too far. Not only is it unconstitutional, it smacks of Orwell and is just something that should never be considered in a free republic such as ours.

I wish to ask the question, why does the national government need all of us to have a national ID? When has the state's ids failed us?

it would also be really expensive to implement. ideas like this have been proposed here and rejected for lots of reasons. people already have such things as passports and driving licenses for those occasions when they need to show id so something like this is pointless, and puts too much information into one database.

I agree and I hope my State adopts this legislation to make this illegal. I do not believe for one second that this will affect illegal immigrants and getting jobs. Do you really think that employers put them on the books? Goodness, isn't that why they want to streamline citizenship? To protect these people with social security, workmans comp etc. They need to decide. This is so stupid. They do NOT need to know where I am and when I am. If this doesn't go through this year, they will kepp hammering at it. They will find a way around state legislation, come on, they are laughing at the 10th Amendment.

Whey will continue to laugh at the 10th amendment until a few states finaly grow some real balls and do some serious nullifying and some very forceful standing up to them So true, they say our right to bear arms are meant for a militia - ok lets do it, I am ready!

Crap no it wont stop thenm, slow em down a little maybe, but not nearly enough to say so. They'll go more under ground, like you sid, working under the table, etc. I believe a few states have already refused REAL Id, I would imagine it would apply to any sort of national ID as well, but best to make sure and get one pased againts this god blasted thing too. Whey will continue to laugh at the 10th amendment until a few states finaly grow some real balls and do some serious nullifying and some very forceful standing up to them. We created the monster by allowing it to take one a life of it's own, rather than making sure it remained a subserviant agent to the states.

They are not proposing this to control the border, they are doing it to get more power over our movements. I am adamantly against a national ID card, chip or any other identification. If they were interested in controlling our borders they'd put up a damned fence and man it adequately. There are many things this Congress is doing that is unconstitutional. It's become a real problem since 9/11 and thank God the people are waking up and trying to make their representatives listen to them.

Debrakcarey, I believe that is their agenda. They want the illegals to drive down wages and living conditions. They can control us if they can hurt us financially--when our children are in rags and we're losing our homes, cars and jobs we will accept help from the government gladly just to get shelter. Once we let that happen, it wont' go away and there will be more and more restrictions on us. Besides, if millions of illegals get amnesty, they get more votes and can push their agenda forward more easily.

I agree with you on that. I am compassionate to a fault, but my immigrant grandparents WORKED for their citizenship...they obeyed the law and learned the language. Sort of takes away from their contribution to this country to see it handed to criminals now.

I understand that the liberal Congress has tried to relax the border, am I correct? It's not about keeping people out of our country, it's about controling those who are here.

It does smack of Orwell. But for what purpose do they want to include biometric information?

I imagine to make it harder to fake and to have one's dna, or at least finger prints on file....doesn't that just make ya feel all warm and snuggy? I saw the pizza thing....hillarious but not too far off base either...

I just remember the comedy sketch where somebody tried to order an all meat pizza and their national ID card said they had heart trouble, so they were turned down because their insurance would be canceled on them.

I saw Lou Dobbs talking about this last night, and it made me laugh because of all of these right wingers hated this idea years ago, but now "it makes total sense". There is a very simple fix to illegal immigration, but No politician will do it because they are afraid to lose donors. This is just another BS idea that will keep some on the right voting for republicans, and will do NOTHING to stop illegal immigration. I do find it funny how we don't hear much about this problem lately, that is probably because not even the illegals have find a job here.

Seems to me the right is just as guilty of pushing this kind of unconstitutional crap back then too....this is just an extension of REAL ID, a raely creepy extension. It's stuff like this that slapped me in the face and woke me up to whats really going on...in both the so called "parties".

Weren't the left wingers against this years ago too? I think it's just another example of that "two sides of the same coin" bit. Both parties want authoritarian rule, they just want to be the ones in authority when it happens. That's why they've switched sides on crap like this and the Patriot Act. The democrats never wanted freedom, they just wanted to be in charge when freedoms were taken away.

Have you ever seen the movie The Handmaid's Tale? It's quite bizarre, but some things in it that aren't far from how our society is slowly becoming. It's nuts, but a good movie. I'd really like to get your imput on that, due to your views about today's society.

My state of Florida has implemented the use of REAL ID as of January of this year for everyone who obtains or renews their driver's license or state ID in accordance with the REAL ID Act. I haven't heard or read our state's response to a new national ID which will include biometric information but I do plan to look into this.

Ugh....so sorry for you. I know there are a few states thst did refuse to use it, mine, I think New Mexico was another one maybe. I do intend to make sure this doesn't sneak in here at home just the same though, you never know with the spineless bunch we have down in Concord.

I'm not crazy about the idea either. It makes me think of those old World War II or Cold War movies where the citizens had to show their pass before going or doing anything. Also, what ever happened to privacy?

We DO have a national ID. It's called your Social Security Card. Although I do not consider myself to be a religious radical, I do believe that the ID they are going for now is leading up to the mark of the beast, where we will have the little I.D. chips like we put under our dog's skin put on us too. In fact, some children already have these added with the reasoning being if they are kidnapped, they will be findable. What people don't seem to understand is that it will also make you findable when you do not want to be. Just as the new GPS systems in your car or built into cell phones, etc., make you findable no matter where you are. I am old fashioned enough to want only a home phone, no id chip under my skin and no GPS built into my car. If I want a GPS systm, I'll buy a Garmin at Radio Shack.

That's the first thing I thought of was the mark of the beast. I sort of see it as being a good idea since I remember when I went to Washington D.C. and tried to use my Ohio ID to cash my American Express check to buy something and they refused me (the person was an International and didn't seem to understand what American Express or my license was.) Yet, something like this could do much more harm than good and I don't like it either. And either with this kind of ID, people will still make mistakes in identifying others.

Everytime I hear about things like this I am reminded that the prophecy says that the antichrist will prohibit buying and selling by those who do not have his number on their hand or forehead. I know Hollywood has had a hey day with the whole 666 thing, but they've not really told their viewers that the purpose of this number is to control-control-control...any takers?

I heard about this the other day and it was said that it will help control illegal immigration. I really don't see it though. How would creating yet another ID document that they can forge have any affect on illegals? It will just create another black market business producing fake federal ID's. Controlling illegals in this country has nothing to do with any document and everything to do with controlling our borders. We need to police the existing methods of ID, like social security numbers, driver's licenses, passports and visas to control illegals in this country. A national ID isn't about illegals, it's about government control over all of us.

I don't like the idea of a national ID card, but there are benefits to it that I can't ignore. A national ID card will help us with our immigration problems, homeland security, social security fraud/abuse, medicare fraud/waste/abuse, medicaid fraud/waste/abuse, etc. I too am all for controlling our borders, that has to be first. But then what? I think a national ID card, with all its Orwellian drawbacks, might just be a must.

I don't know, it just seems to much of a trade off for me. If we WERE controlling our borders effectively there would be no need to considering this sort of thing.

First of all, they have yet to create a card that hasn't been forged. Social security cards, driver's licenses, credit cards, etc. have all been forged. A 17 yr old can get a fake id with very little trouble. So the argument that such a card can't be forged is nonsense. Someone, somewhere, with the help of the net will figure out how to do it. It is so totally unconstitutional. I don't agree with it. It won't help illegal immigration since many people who hire illegal immigrants tend to pay under the table anyway. It should never be done and both Senators should be kicked out of office no matter what party they belong to just for suggesting it.

I do not agree with such info and to be honest i have heard for a few years this is a plan instored for us. I think if they want to control people coming that should not be they should not make it easier for them to be here. Like offering green cards and letting them come over to work and think they will not want to stay here after the fact. This is my opinion on it I guess we will have to wait and see what happens and my hope it NEVER does! HAppy mylotting to you.

The push for standardized national id cards has been around for quite awhile. In part because every state does it abit differently, that many fake id's are made and used for illegal activities. Almost every other country has national id cards so that part doesn't bother me that much. As for the biometrics, that's taking it too far in my opionion. Doubt that part will make it very far. There are too many on both sides that would oppose it. But time will tell.
