Do we have enough Awareness and care about our surroundings....

I have seen most people living a life within a very limited sphere which includes their family and their immediate surroundings. You talk to them about any other matter and the answer you get is that it does not concern them...I heard a neighbor say " I don't bother about other things, I mind my own business and I am not curious or go prying unnecessarily " - this was in answer to a question regarding a man hole which was gaping open on the road outside , and, whether he had complained or called up the authorities to bring it to their notice....But if he or one of his family members were to accidentally fall into it , I am sure he will leave no stone unturned in getting a compensation and getting his pic in the papers, abusing the authorities for neglecting their duty and abusing every person who has any thing to do with the issue etc etc... I personally feel that most people lack civic sense and are just not bothered about anything that does not benefit them directly....What are your views friends ?

we did have a case where a child fell into the man hole and was washed away. The body has never been found so far....That man hole is apparently still open with the authorities having done nothing so far - may be they are waiting for some more deaths before they can decide to close it ...

Yes i agree, these are the things they ought to attend to at the earliest , since it can endanger a persons life. When it rains and there is flooding , one cannot make out if there is a open drain and so many children have been washed away and never found...Even after such incidents , one still finds open drains all over the city...

i get into this topic alot, and hear so many say its my place to say or do anything about it. it is our place to step up for those who cant, and i will always look at it as if if you dont get ourself involve in more things, and we do see people doing wrong or treating other wrong but us feeling its not our place to say or do anything we are just as wrong. if i saw the man hole cover off and i didnt try to put it back or call anyone about it, and someone falls into it, then i am wrong for not taking the proper action to prevent it to happen

Yes I agree with that...I too would at least bring it to some one else's notice. In my country things move at a very low pace because people do not protest or make an issue out of such things.Only when it hits them directly do they take action, which shows how selfish everyone has become...

I think most people would report the man hole if it were where it could endanger their own children, but if it were 5 miles down the road endangering somebody else's children they would not.

Yes dawn very true ! Forget about 5 miles down the road , not even when it is a little distance away from and at a safe distance from your place and your usual route....they become aware of it only when it is riight in front of their house and poses a danger to them...

Hi kiran, most of us are not cautious about our surroundings. We blame the authorities for their lacking. Without awareness of our rights we cant blame for the faults. First of all we must behave like a conscious citizen. A conscious citizen means a conscious nation. We have to earn this.

I agree bhanu, each of us has some responsibilities....it is unfair to blame the authorities for every little thing that happens.I have seen people throwing stones and breaking the street lamps and the blame goes to the electricity board for not taking care of the matter...

Unfortunately, everybody is going to selfish and just care about them self. Especially in a big city, where is money is the center of everything. There a few that really care for others, but it is very very rare.

Hi ifa, yes the society has become a very selfish one now and most people do not really care about others...Money rules over everything including humanity - all the best and thanks a lot for your response

No. There deffinately should be more. We should get out of our own little sprere more especially to help our neighbor or our community. I believe it goes a lot further than our neighbor or community, it should be a life long commitment to help anything that needs help, and not just if a person is only involved for self benefit. It should go beyound the hole that you shared. I deffinately agree with you that if something personally happens then involvement gets a new meaning.

Hi lowloy, thanks a lot for your response , Most people would prefer to close their eytes or look the other way when there is a need to be done something, because they would noit want to get unnecessarily involved in public matters...
