Mental tension, stress

India

Hello, according to researchers in the department of Yoga Research, Patanjali Yogapith, India, yoga activities like muscle loosening, exercised for 10 minutes, asaan (posture) for 20 minutes and pranayam for 25 minutes daily is useful for stress management and trauma associated in natural calamity like flood, earth quake that causes loss of life and property. Yoga is good for controlling heart beat, rate of breathing and emotional stress. The level of distress is associated with post traumetic stress disorder (PTSD), attempt to decrease stress can result in a positive outcome. I do the breathing exercises daily in morning for 2 hours, watching tghis in the Asstha channel, i think this keeps me healthy, i do walk in the evening. What form of exercise you do, have you tried the 'yogic breathing' ever? Give it a try for a month and see the differences. Bhuwan

dear professor, a few years back i used to do aerobics as a form of exercise at least 3 days in a week. but due to very hectic schedule, i had to stop going to the gym. problem now is i feel lazy doing it myself alone, with only a DVD as my guide. then someone very special taught me pranayam. started at 15 minutes and increased it daily to 30 minutes. its very nice and i feel positive that it is doing good for me inside my body because i feel light and energized when i go out of the house to work. have a nice day. ann

Hello Sir, Now the TV channel is promoting Yoga in a very good way. (now there many channels available I tv with yoga practice) I think it helps people to watch and follow the simple yoga especially the breathing exercise and of course it is very easy to do. I watched Guru Ram dev’s channel sometimes and according him the breathing exercise healed cancer and some other chronic diseases. He explained many things as how it works in our body etc. I think it is high time to think all of us to do ‘yoga’ every day.

Hello Bhuwan, I bought a yoga DVD for Beginners, but don't have a player where I am staying. At my age I need to move gently into some movements that will help my muscles become more flexible, and I need to relax more. I probably will look for a book, or a communal class. I know the benefits.

I have a DVD player in my laptop, but unfortunately, it's broken, and the cost to repair is way too much. I have started walking four kilos a morning, so that will help. Thanks for your advice, Prof.

Hi Professor, I too do some yoga aasanas mainly pranayama , the simple procedure and walking and gardening. i have a rather large garden which needs to be watered and generally looked after every day and this is a good excercise since I need to bend and walk about the place and go all the way upto the second floor where i have kept some flower pots as well. But one has to do some regular exercise to keep fit - I do some toe touching and spot jogging...

Hi Bhuwanji You are correct. Yoga cures so many ailments, especially stress related problems. Even I do Baba Ramdev's Yoga in the mornig by watching Aastha from 5AM to 7am and I do find excellent results. I also have lots of herbal plants mentioned in Ramdev's book Jaribooti Rahasya and also use them accordingly. I use to teach so many people and cured some from their health problems. I do bhastrika, kapalbhati, anilom vilom, bhahya, bramri, udgeet, pranav, ujjayi, asanas like manduka, bhujanga, salabha, makara, markata, ardha hala, uttanu pada, pada vritta, dwi chakra, and pavan muktha asan.

You are welcome. I too teach yoga and pranayama free to all those who ask me by going to their house. I have cured thyroid, sugar and some body swelling to three of my friends. they are extremely greatful to me. and my paperboy was cured of his backache which he was suffering from a long time. even I taught yoga and pranayama to one of my mylot friends through online with the help of a web cam. It gives me immense satisfaction if we do something free of cost and if they are cured completely

hi professor2010 I know Yoga does so much for us, and one of the big things about it is it relaxes you and does away with stress.I did not realize how much more it can do for us. I have so much 'stress over managing my diabetes, wonder if I could find a way' to practice yoga by myself if it would help me to feel less 'stressed out and more able to control my blood sugar. I do so need something to help me. I need to learn to breathe deeper as I am a shallow breather and am always huffing and puffing because of this.

Hello Professor I do daily "belly breathing" exercises and a form of meditation called relaxation response. I also do a number of exercises each day, and I pray daily, as well. I do believe that the routine helps to relieve high levels of stress and even pain. Karen

Yes i agree with you.I have a strong interest in yoga teaching and i know it can be a big help when on is dealing with stress and tension. However, it is so sad that we don't have so yoga clinics here, maybe we have it in central business districts. I was able to read some articles on the techniques of yoga and i apply some basic exercises when i feel so exhausted or stressed. I hope in your next discussion ,you would share with us some very easy yoga techniques (^_^).

I do the prayer position, wherein i put my hands in prayer position at my lower back. then i cross my legs and do the breathing excersie. i do this whenever i'm tired from facing the computer at work or when i'm upset. it's very relaxing and good for the posture.

Even my sister always asks me to follow Baba Ramdev's pranayamam methods. But somehow I go on postponing it. I am happy you are following it and getting benefitted. I want to do at least kapalbathi which is good for many diseases. Let me start soon.

Hi Bhuwan, I have done a little yoga in the past and found it quite good, but for the last 30 years or so I have practice Zen meditation (zazen). It begins with deep breathing, inhaling to lungs capacity, hold it for several seconds, then exhaling slowly (like a trickle) until lungs are completely empty, holding again for a several seconds, then slowly and gently inhaling again. I do this for about 5 minutes then just focusing on the inhalation and exhalation for around 45 minutes. _Derek

Hi,there!I used to do hot yoga for body shaping mainly, especially during the summer.I definitely believe that doing yoga is a great way to keep healthy, not only physically but also mentally. It has been a hard time for me after the National College Education Examination, because I didn't do very well in the test.Accidentally, yoga enters into my life by then. But,as a lazy character,it appears to be a little difficult for me to keep doing it everyday given that I have a lot of classes everyday. My answer is yes to yoga and I also suggest jogging here.Jogging in the afternoon from about 4 o'clock to 5 o'clock is said to be the best time of a day for your body to increase the circulation of the blood.hope you have a good time!

I used to do Pranayam few months back but now a days it has taken back seat because of other priority. Also, I am not able to go to gym and again reason is same. Since I have done Pranayam , so I know that it is very useful for our health as you said, I felt more energatic those days. In our day to day life perhaps we take breath in hurry and doing prayanam we can provide much more breating air to our body which in turn will have positive effects. I have started again from today, I did Kapalbhati, Shirshaasan, Surya namaskar, Mastikapranayam and few more. Thank You sir for reminding the importance of Yoga. Wish you good health.
