Using Mylot earnings for a good cause!

It's a wonderful thing that we can earn some $$$ by participating in Mylot discussions, though it may not be great in sums of $$$ for individuals. However if we pool the total earnings of more than 200,000 members together it becomes a very substantial amount. To make it more meaningful, we could perhaps consider donating our earnings to creditable International Charitable Organisations for a good cause.

That's a very good idea :D One person isn't so powerful, but we all myLot users could get the moon if we wanted. Remember that 200,000 users is a huge amount. I don't even understand why I had't hear about this site before 1-2 weeks ago...

Thanks, for your support. I am also mindful that all donations must be voluntary.

Absolutely, but I'm sure that every single soul here in myLot would do it voluntarily. Especially if it's not a big amount of money, because I don't have much myself neither :p

Someone had the idea of making a lottery a little while ago, i think that'd be beneficial as we could donate say 25% of the money to charities (thats put it for the lottery / raffle) and give the other 75% to the winner. It would definitely convince more individuals to help those less fortunate.

Lotteries run by the government in most countries do put aside a certain percentage (not sure how much)for charities and other project that are of benefit to their people. Private lotteries are heavily taxed for the same purpose, I presume. So, buying lottery would help to some extent. Raffle? I am not too sure. They are usually for organisations to fund their own projects.

Well I hate to be un Christian or un-kind but there are many people here that really need the money themselves.. And many times Charitable Organizations, even the best only give a percentage of the total money donated to them ..to the needy. Sometimes, more then money, the needy need love and friendship. They need someone to teach them how to take care of themselves and how to survive without the need for charity. Perhaps taking food to someone next door to you is more valuable then sending money to some organization that you really don't know will give but a tiny portion of the total to the needy.

I don't think that you are being 'un-Christian' at all, LittleFranciscan. It's quite true that many people need what they earn here. Charity is always discretional: if not, then it's not really charity, so I think that what is being suggested here is a purely optional scheme to donate a certain proportion of earnings to charity.

Being charitable or not has nothing to do with any particular religion. Like owlwing said "It discretional and optional".

That's a noble thought....it will be cool to donate some of our earnings to charity at times.. we can do it in our own personal time. Good suggestion there.

Thats a good idea I think for those who can afford to do it. I'm a member of a few paying sites other than Mylot so I was actually thinking about this the other day to set aside what I make on one site strictly for charity and save the rest for family expenses.
• Singapore

Looks like there are quite a number of paying sites around. I am just wondering whether they are paying well enough for members to be able to use them for family expenses. I guess a great deal of time must be dedicated to earn alot of $$$.
• Singapore

Also, by sharing other paying sites it would enable fellow members to earn more money to tide them over their difficult times or even make ends meet. Before we go ahead to help others it would be good to help those in Mylot family first.

There are programs that offer you this choice. They even let you decide the amount of your donation. It would be wonderful for MyLot to consider doing that as well.

I will try to remember...I know I belong to programs that do this...but, I belong to alot of programs. I will do my best to get back to you

Please let us know programs that offer this choice. We can learn from them or maybe do even better. Anyway this suggestion is only a thought of mine.

Yes, I agree that it's a good option for mylot to consider for all those who wish to donate their mylot earnings.

I've been thinking about using some of the money I make here on MyLot to donate somewhere. If I do, it'll likely be to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. I've actually been considering, maybe the next $10+ I get from MyLot, using at least half of it to donate to them. I mean, $5 or so isn't much but it's something. Unfortunately I just don't have a lot of money myself (especially since I'm currently am unemployed and trying to get a job at the moment).

Your kind thought is already good enough! Please take care of yourself first. You may consider giving to any Charity when you have a job and enough money for youself.

I think it's a good idea too! But most of us here are earning a little to cover up for their bills and I think they'll not give it to charity.
• Singapore
22 Mar 10
We understand! It is only right that we need to attend to our own needs first! Charity is for those who have some extra to spare to give.

It`s always nice to think of others and to make good causes. However, it`s not easy to make 200000 people agree. If you try to make that, I wish you good luck
• Singapore

I am in no position to make anybody agree, let alone 200000 people. Mine is only a wild idea which I hope mylot might consider adding as an option.

HI metamorph, Yes its really wonderful thing to do, but most people here is using mylot for money, means they need that money, I dunno maybe they were unemployed or need extra income whatever the reason is. Its really good to help other people, It feels warm and we'll smell the high heaven at the end of the day LOL. anyway its reall good idea. cheers! have a nice day.

My apologies to all whom this suggestion could have raised a concern. My estimation of not being able to earn much mylot$$$ based on my own earnings of less that $0.50 after a few days of activites. I could not imagine my earning to be more that $5/month and therefore, how anyone could earn any substantial amount in a month. With all the honest responses and feedbacks now I understand better. Nonetheless, it must be really hard work and lots of time spent to earn lots of mylot$$$.

There's a saying, "Charity begins at Home". Its only after we have taken good care of our Home that we share our extra blessings with others in need.

I think that'd be amazing. They should have buttons of different charities that people could directly donate their money to. I would love to donate my money to a childrens' hospital. And you're right, the small amounts of money added up would equal a great amount of money that could really help.

Another good suggestion for myLot to consider if they find idea of donation feasible.

Wow, I haven't thought of anything like this. It is a really great idea. Perhaps it would be nice if MyLot had an option where you could donate a percentage of your earnings to a charity of your choice? You'd be able to select the percentage, the charity, and maybe even get a little section on your profile saying that you chose to donate to so-and-so charity. A very good idea! :)

hi metamorph2 thats great for those who do not have to really rely on their earnings for any real thing, but for me I cannot be charitable as I do not have a lot of money at all, and these earnings have to go to pay my internet bill and as my bill increased three dollars I have to put usually six to eight dollars with my earnings to pay the bill. Gold Crest retirementcenter takes most of my social security and ss i checks for monthly rent and board leaving me with only one hundred twenty five 'dollars each month for personal needs. So I have nothing left after room board and personal needs plus phone and internet are paid for, not for charities at all, maybe some charity ou ght to help me instead, he he he.

It did not occur to me that one could earn so much mylot$$$ and enough for household expenses. Maybe it's because I am not active enough and have earned less that $1 so far and I cannot do anything much with it. Hence, my suggestion. Certainly, we can consider you as a beneficiary if you produce documents to show that yopu are in need! Hahahah!

Nope, nope, nope, I am not doing it. I myself don't have any money as it is, so every dollar I can get helps me out. Count me out of any donations to charities should such an insane idea take hold here on MyLot.
