i think when religions were made there were no laws and rules in society hardly. so some expert decided to put in the form of the words of god so that people could follow them and they succeeded. but today religion is being used as a weapon of war and to generate money. what are your views.

To make religion sounds ridiculous, but i think you are right that it is used as a weapon. All religions are the same starting with 1 God being a man. I think that everyone deserves and has the right to profess what he wants and to who he wants, but the main thing is that religion is used not only for a weapon but for a victim, too. And I think that nowadays religious people (we are all religous and we believe in different religions or something else) believe more in their God than in the Authorities or anything they see out in the real world. And that is not always right but believing in something we don't see is easier and believing in something that cannot be proven is naive, but aren't we all naive.

I feel that religion gets a bad rap due to some people who have used it for their own personal gains. Why this happens is because too many people are sheep and cant see the wolf from the shepherd. I don't buy it that religion is the cause of wars man has always been greedy and corrupt that's not religions faults that's humanities traits that we have allowed to lead us.

Hi 1nurag1, All organized religions are man made but in the beginning man invented the idea of a God or Gods to explain what he couldn't understand. As you say the first organized religions were no doubt used for setting up rules in society. Religion today needs to reinvent itself, get away from worshiping a deity and to live the truth that we are all one in our daily lives. The money now spent on religion and wars together with that saved when the pharmaceutical industry starts being honest with people would create a better world than any of us could ever imagine. Blessings.

Religion should be defined principally as a collection of beliefs. Primitive humans lived in times when mankind was fighting the forces of nature, and developed a sort of phobia towards elements. Being different from other animals in thinking abilities, the mankind depended mostly on superstitions. These superstitions perpetrated for generations taking the form of a code of practice to instill in the minds the rigors for safeguarding the humanity. In later forms this got the identification as Religion. The early man was not naming a God. The rituals were nothing in common as we see now. As the man got more civilized(?) some shape or stipulations have been introduced. As the discoveries by science advanced, so the faith, superstitions etc. have undergone enormous changes. However, it has remained to this day, Man surrenders to the unknown power which he termed 'God' after the limits of science. This has always been the classic tussle between 'Science' and 'Religion'. Truly speaking the same power of mother 'Nature' which was looked upon in awe by the primitive man, continues to be so even today at the end of all the discoveries and solutions man added to his knowledge. But then why the mankind got subdued by the Religion. The answer is not far to seek. During the periods of expansionism the rulers of certain regions waged wars with other regions. To ensure the subservience they used the Religious heads to expand the religion among the subjects by propagation and so called conversions. This made their empires more stable, because the subjects were all brought under one common faith. As times changed and the present day nations become independent. The strength of Religion became weak in modern day scenario, with more and more explanations of the unknown. Yet the heads of religions are not leaving the desire to spread their religion. This is a method of subversion, because waging wars openly is not approved globally. This is also where one finds the entrance of fanaticism. Some countries are deliberately supporting the activities of the fanatics and creating disharmony. Sad. At this juncture a lot of good can come to the mankind and bring in peaceful coexistance, if religion is given a back seat by every nation in their policies. Practicing of religion has to be made personal not affecting the society. The expansion of religion by force, or by enticing with material benefits has to be curbed.

Religion was our first attempt at philosophy and to explain the natural world. However as we gathered more knowledge it became obvious that its was a flawed attempt. Nowadays religion does not explain anything but enables men to behave poorly regarding other men. And you're not exactly right when you claim there were no laws or rules in society. If that were true society would never have evolved. A society that would accept murder or theft for example could never accomplish anything. It would never have evolved to a society where people could live together and develop new ideas without crushing itself. Unfortunately one of these new ideas was religion.

Religion has its own value but the real problem is not that the religion has been used to keep power by the rulers and the churches or religious leaders but the real problem is it divides people. The aim of every religion is to increase brotherhood among the people of the world but actually if teaches hate to the followers of other religions. Hardly any religion ( leave aside Hinduism and Buddism) teaches to let live person with other religion peacefully. So in name of God people kill each other or stab others in back, This according to me is the biggest draw back of the religion.

God is one for all.Religions are made by people. History shows that many people have used religion to manipulate not only the masses but to start wars and then the conquest of other territories, so. I think we all know what made the Spanish Inquisition in the name of religion and you better not forget. At the same time, no matter how cruel human deeds or bad they were, made in the name of religion and height of the will of God, should not make us not believe in his existence. I think a man without faith is not really human, just like a shell with a human face, who do not know why but he really is on earth .. Remember that a religion is not good or bad, but how it is interpreted and applied by people lead more or less the reprehensible acts. Everything depends on the eyes that look.

Hi anurag, have you ever tried to read any law text without cases? It is painfully boring! To an extent what you have come up seems to be true. I too think at times that elders in tribes decided it was time to keep the tribe happy - so they formulated law. But as law few ould understand. So they gave it in story format, bringing a fictitious character called god into picture. I too am very disappointed at the way people use religion as reason to fight rather than means to bind. :(

From my point of view, the human being is very curious by nature, and we need to find an explanation to things. Some people need to find an easy explanation for not having to think anymore, and that's what all religions are in the end, a well made up story to find an easy explanation to what we don't understand in life.

Religions was made to explain things that we don't understand and also because it is good to know there's someone you can ask for help when you're in a big trouble.

Religion is a crutch, which enables man to live according to his given nature. Religion subdues man's inherent base nature. Man's base nature is that of an animal. Man can show himself to be kindly and humane either by mastering his opposing tendencies or by mastering the art of pretense. He can show himself to be kind though he might not be kind. He can show love, though he might not love. He can show himself to be patient and tolerant though he might not be thus. However, by mastering his opposing tendencies and through pretense man cannot become human. At slightest provocation, he switches over to his base nature and acts again as an animal. God is the theme of every religion. Every religion asks its followers to practice a ritual and that ritual is to adore and worship God. God is the only power, in which the Goodness is its intrinsic nature. When you adore and worship God, you acquire God's essential nature into yourself. It seeps into your conduct. Once this happens you no longer have to master your opposing tendencies, you no longer have to pretend. A truly religious person is naturally good, he is naturally kind, he is able to love truly; he is naturally caring and sympathetic. The religions are therefore made to let man live according to his given nature, and the given nature is not just a human nature because to err is human but not to err is divine. Through religion, man also turns divine in semblance of God.

I always believe that religion was made to direct people towards salvation but it will not be the one that will save humanity it still is and will be one's FAITH. So, if religion then destroys humanity and salvation that religion is in vain.
