I have received a friendship request by a man of my same age. He claims to be a classmate and his name rings a bell but I cannot put his face back into my life. Is facebook playing tricks on me or my memory is failing me? Twenty five years have passed since I left secondary school and thus things appear faded.... I guess my memory is no longer as it used to be. Thus this happens to you as well?

I could always remember faces and certain good and bad memories but names, not so much.I think it is normal to forget some things from the past.

Yes I am bad at names much more than remembering faces. But sometimes it is tricky to remember someone who changed drastically physically.

Get out your yearbook and see if that will help to refresh your memory. I usually remember faces and not names.

If we add this to your other 'condition' when you trip up in the night, I think you are gradually creeping up to what is known as 'old age'. It hits some sooner than others I have not yet had requests from any persona that I do not remember, either online or off. I don't use Facebook but I do belong to a UK site which is connected to the schools that I went to and so far I have never forgotten anyone who requested me.

You devil! Beating at my own game ! LOL I am still alive and kicking hehehhe (and I can prove what I am saying ...) It seems that you have a sharp memory. I was never good at remembering names 25 years if not more have passed since I saw last this guy and I am sure we were not the best of mates...

Hi, Ronaldinu! I received a friend request from a woman who swears we were the closest of friends all through school, and I didn't recognize the name at all. I contacted her, and discovered she thought I was her friend in London, although I've never been there! The name was the same, and the ages matched, but nothing else!

It has happened to me a few times also. I was in school in the 1980s and I quit years ago in 1991. I ended up doing high school at home and I finished and got my high school diploma. I am the same way though I can't remember everyone I went to school with either.

I know the feeling because the same thing happened to me recently Because of the social networking site you mentioned, old classmates suddenly had a chance to reconnect after fifteen years. Now some of the friend requests I approved a few months ago depended on who our mutual friends would be. So there's this guy I approved as my friend and he claims that we were classmates in our first year in high school. Fine by me. But what struck me as odd was when he said that he was coming home he would call me up. Now, I assumed that we shared common friends and that he also sent the same message to my close friends. But when he was finally here, I asked my best friend if she got the invitation from this guy, and she said that she did not. And those that he invited out were those that I was never really close to during my high school years. I guess he might have confused me for someone else. And I did not go to the reunion his friends hosted because none of my real friends were invited. I don't recall him either.

Hi ronaldinu. This happens sometimes. Maybe he looks differently than what he used to look like when he was in school. And he probably never hardly talked to you when you was in school. 25 years is a very long time and it is quite normal to not really remember someone from this time frame. I don't forget familiar faces. Sometimes, I can't recall names when I see the person's face.

I can't imagine wanting to talk to anyone i knew 25 yrs ago....you should friend him anyway. Maybe it's him who has the amnesia.

I have encountered such situation before, a schoolmate added me as a friend in one of social networking sites, but i couldn't remember even his name, but still i accepted his request, and after checking his details/ information and pictures, I already remembered or recognized who he was. You know, all people almost experienced that same situation, because as we grow older, neurons in our brain decreases that is why we have some memory gap, brain cells do not regenerate.

Yes this happpens to me too. Sometimes it's the other way around and it makes it more embarassing when I bump in to somebody who suddenly calls me by my first name and yet, I can't reply using his/her name. I will just have to say some things that will indicate I still know the person but really, not the name. My husband laughs at me whenever that happens ('coz it always does lol) and I just blame the anesthesia I've had in my last C/S deliveries that might have caused my poor memory on names. :(

Have you got a class year book to help you? I have to look at mine when someone says a name. It's been since 1977 for me, so many decades now.

If you still have a yearbook, go check out his photo then and put it against the one he has now on his facebook, maybe that will jog your memory some!

I only got a few requests for friendship from people I do not really know--like two or three, but since I want to increase my number of friends, I only have over a hundred, I approve all these requests.

So far, it has not happened to me, although there were close ones. I guess it is because some people's looks really change a lot from the way they looked back in their teens, especially if they changed their hairstyle, hair color, facial features (such as eyebrow shapes in women, and addition or subtraction of pimples or scars, wrinkles, etc), weight (like if they used to be really skinny but now they're quite heavier by several tons), skin color, etc. There were some schoolmates which i wasnt well acquainted with, so I easily forgot how they looked like though their names sound familiar.

thanks for your reply. It's hard to recognise somebody when his physcial appearance has changed so much. I do agree with you on this one.
