What's Your Kid's Brain On?

Has your teen ever said to you, "I'm bored." It's spring break and my kid has finally re-discovered the outdoors. He's playing basketball, skateboarding and just hanging out in the park.
But my teen is that typical kid who's brain runs on computer games, Xbox live and whatnot. I once went to bring up his laundry and found his computer on, playing music. He's on MySpace chatting with his friends and commenting on Facebook at the same time. His Ipod was attached to him. The television was on and so was his Xbox and he had about 20 text messages on his cell. And if one of these isn't working, he's bored. How's your Spring Break going?

No kids live here anymore, and so I have no Spring break. Actually, it may be that I am on a perpetual break. It is good he is getting outdoors and allowing his poor brain to be soothed by some natural entertainment.

I have my son till the end of summer and then he'll move out on his own while going to college. I will then have to endure the trauma of the empty nest syndrome. No hubby either. Sigh. I think I'll get a dog.
But yes, I'm glad he's taking himself to the great outdoors.

My kids are at grandma's and they're probably mostly playing video games and watching TV. When they're at home, my oldest hogs the computer and the other two try and sneak on when she's finally gotten off.

I can't focus to much on more then a few things at a time..unless it is slowly. Like I can do IM chat,Facebook, check my mail and do a survey..but I am alwys flipping between them all..I don't have any kids...but I do babysit alot...The kids here don't get Spring break since they missed so much school back in the winter and have to make it up..I think they get out in June sometime. With all the technology nowadays it seems kids need more and more to stimulate their brains if not..they fel bored out of their heads..

Hello, gtargirl, that sounds like what my daughter would do before she moved out. She was able to watch TV, IM many different friends at once, surf online and talk on the phone. And she was able to tell me what happened on the show, or what her friends and her were talking about..
My 7y/o, his spring break was last week and he did spend some time on his gamecube and the computer. But he also spent some time outdoors shooting hoops or riding his scooter. So I really can't complain, that he didn't spend his whole break inside...

Just the last two. The rest of the time he was pretty well entertained. Easter was a god send. If my grandson had Xbox, a cell, and an Ipod I would be in a whole different tax bracket and we probably would have gone to Disneyland or someplace for Springbreak. I just can't believe kids now days. BOredom or lack of imagination? When I was a kid I had a mop handle for a horse and was as happy as punch.
