More caffeine than I expected.

Last night when we were snuggled up on the sofa, DH and I had some chocolate which was very nice. We're both fans of dark chocolate and this stuff was 81% cocoa and very nice.
However, at stupid o'clock this morning we were both still awake as we hadn't realised how much caffeine was in there. Neither of us drinks tea, coffee or cola so we're pretty caffeine free apart from a bit of chocolate now and then.
Did you realise how much of a stimulant chocolate could be?

Hey hvedra! Welcome to my world!lol I do drink way too much
caffeine and know what that feels like! So for you to not be
used to caffeine and eating chocolate you must be super sensitive
to it! I don't ever think about my reaction to eating chocolate
since I drink diet coke just about 24/7 anyway! But, not being
used to caffeine at all I can definitely see it having that
kind of affect on the two of you! So, I guess the next time
you want to have a nice "sugar high" you should start it a bit
earlier in the day! I hope you were able to "cope" today without
feeling to sleep deprived!

Does that go for chocolate ice cream too? I don't eat that much candy, but ice cream is a different story.

We are accustomed to caffeine, so when we eat one Dove Promise at bed time it does not affect us. On the other hand, I ate a chocolate energy or power bar instead of supper one night and it must have had a lot of caffeine, as I did not sleep.

Wow.. I didn't realise that chocolate would do that! As kids me and my sister used to drink that stuff before bedtime. But perhaps kids are not so effected by caffeine as adults. I stopped drinking coffee because I was a bit of an addict and switched to tea. I drink the caffeine-free tea after lunchtime, but ordinary first thing in the morning.

You are so right because the other day I made a dessert and I put 3 to four big spoons of organic cocoa in it and wow I could not sleep either. I guess it served me right for having had it so late at night but I had no clue that it would just keep me up all night. Wow it was like a coffee hit. So people seriously should be warned or made at least aware.

The better the chocolate the more the caffiene. I would think dark would have more but I don't know that for a fact. I would still enjoy it just not so late in the eveing. I love chocolate but am rather picky. I have never noticed a problem like what you describe and I eat it late in the evenings too. I just don't care for the dark.

This is why I have only one piece a day. I buy the big bar of Hersey's Special Dark Chocolate and it last for about a week or more. I love dark chocolate and the great thing about it, that its good for you but in moderation like everything else.

I am a lover of chocolates. Luckily, I am not affected by the caffeine. I can still sleep soundly after having one.

I know its very stimulating, its can raise your mood. I am big fans of a chocolate I ate it almost every day, its really help sometime when you feel blue. I realize its contain caffeine but I think it not more than coffee. I say this because when I drink a cup of coffee I will get dizzy but if I eat a bar of chocolate I will not feel dizzy.
