Ever think, "I really have to label my stuff in my freezer?"

I have 2 tubs of brown stuff with darker brown stuff in them and one tub of white stuff floating in yellow stuff. I think the brown stuff is either bread pudding or stuffing. I think the yellow stuff is either rice and chicken stock or soup. I didn't label them because I was going to use them the following week and now weeks have gone by. With my Menopause, I can't remember that long. So have you ever regretted not labeling food in your freezer? What did it all turn out to be?

Okay, I did think about labelling my stuff in the freezer but for a different purpose, that was when I was sharing an apartment with some of my friends. Sometimes we don't remember which one is out stuff and which one isn't so the stuff there gets all mixed up and sometimes without even realizing it, somebody else has already cooked my chicken. LoL.

That's funny, it sounds almost like someone cooked my goose which is a saying around here.

The saying is sort of like got yourself into a lot of trouble. Nice to hear from you. How's the weather and how's everything going in the Phillipines?

LoL, haha, actually I literally meant chicken meat... because it was chicken. Anyway haven't heard of that saying, but I think it's cute. Goose huh. Hehe. The weather here is as hot as purgatory.... Makes me wanna go back to Singapore, not that it's any cooler there, but my mom's apartment there is fully air-conditioned. And mine here isn't. And I wouldn't afford the electricity bill anyway if I had it aircond 24 straight hours a day.

I always regret not labeling stuff. Actually, I tried the last time we bought large portions of meat and divided it, but the labels have fallen off. Luckily you can tell the difference between pork roast and ground beef. I just wanted to have a date to use by. I have some containers in my refrigerator-freezer that are either beans or roast southwestern pork or some other kind of soup. Maybe I will let you know, if I get brave.

Those are good ideas writer. I only use masking tape and a permanent marker. Another idea is baggies, just write on the baggie itself, no labels to fall off.

I grew up with a freezer tape and a pen you use with it. The tape is guaranteed not to fall off and if you wait a minute, the pen doesn't smear. I think a laundry pen does well. Yes, I've used some nice labels that have fallen off before.

Good Point writersedge. I have found things in the freezer that I suddenly have to unwrap or open because of not knowing what it was. Usually we do label containers that go into the freezer along with the date as well. Mostly the containers in our freezers contain homemade soups. Sometimes there is no label so we look, guess and then wait and see after it begbins to thaw. Suprise soup. Lol One time, in the freezer in the fridge we had a container and didn't know what it was after a time went by. Turns out it was pork chp with mushroom gravey, rice and carrots. It is a good idea to label things in a container that is going to be put in the freezer. Adding the date is helpful also, just in case you don't get to it for awhile.

You are welcome writers. I find that the date on soup especially is handy. Always taking the oldest date first, naturally. It is amazing what all one can freeze too. Not just meals and soup. Woulda thunk it! Great invention. Thanks for the comment.

Yes, a very good point to add the date. That pork chop meal sounds like a good one and one I wish I had in my freezer right now, yum! Thanks and take care.

Oh tell me about it. I'm frustrated at telling our house help to do that often. Whenever we go to the market to get some stuff (chicken, pork, beef, etc.) I always tell her to put them in plastic microwavables and put a label as to the date and what's inside. You see, when meat gets frozen, it's difficult to decipher what type of meat it is unless you defroz them. Further, it's tougher even when you keep leftover sauces and broths. Whew! Mostly, I just throw out in the end.

I use to not label until years ago I pulled something out and it wasn't what I thought it was once it defrosted..(sorry, can't remember what it was, too many year ago) But since then, I never freeze anything without labeling..

Good for you! Maybe you can give Garden Gerty some advice above, her labels keep falling off.

Sure sounds like a good idea. My ex used to get meat from several different places. He would slotter and cut up the deer and antelopes his dad and brother shot and we would get the meat. He would never label any of it. The phrase 'mystery meat' comes to mind. Venison is good meat but it is good to know what cut and so forth it is. Some things men just never seem to learn. You have animals don't you? Let the stuff thaw and if it is not appropriate give your animals a treat.

My cats are crystalin kitties. I can supplement with meat or cheese, but I have to be so careful of the PH that I mostly give them ph balanced cat food. Different cuts require different time. So if you want hamburg for a quick meal and you took out a hulking roast, that's not good. That puts your meal too late. We have quick cuts during the week and long-cooking ones on the weekends. I can see how that would be frustrating. He hunted and you gathered and mushrooms no less. I dream of that combination. I think my husband and I will retire to that.

Some animals (depends on their heredity) can't handle acid PH, in their bodies it creates crystals. In people, the crystals usually pass (in some people they don't and they create stones). In animals, the crystals get stuck in the urethera and the animal can't urinate. The blockage causes them to die.

I am not sure why the PH balanced food but our dog used to eat rotten food and lived to a ripe old age. Yes, the hunting and gathering is nice.

I am always putting something unlabled in my freezer. I always think i am going to remember what the food is and when I put it in the freezer. A few months later i play guessing games because most of the time I don't remember what I have. I should take a sharpie and label my food first. Good advice for the future. I hope i listen.

Yes, we really should listen to ourselves, not necessary the I'm remember thought, but definitely, the we should label this thought.
