Artificial flowers for decoration

In cities we find difficulty in getting fresh flowers daily for our daily worship to Gods and Goddesses and also for our drawing room decoration. For worship I purchase daily, a girl delivers at about 7am on monthly basis in my home for 100 rupees per month. But for placing in corner of drawing room, I had to purchase bunches of plastic flowers; they look fresh just like real flowers, complete with artificial water drops. But real is real artificial is artificial. No fragrance. To make up for this we light incense sticks. Where from you get your flowers daily, do you use artificial flowers and use incense sticks? We have many types of incense sticks, we call them agarbatii. Happy posting, cheers Prof

To my knowledge real decorative flowers do not have much fragrance. They will be beautiful thats all. so its not bad to prefer artificial flowers. In south india especially in tamil nadu, early morning they used to put smoke(good smelling, fragrant smoke). That kills germs too. While praying or offering to good real flowers is always good. agarathi is always nice. World is having tight financial problem. so lets adjust with artificial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Bhuvan, flowers have become very expensive these days.A small bunch of Chrisanthemums cost nothing less than 75 rupees , so how can one afford to keep fresh flowers on a daily basis. In my case I love fresh flowers a lot.I do use some artificial flowers too but i like fresh greenery too inside the house.Besides potted plants wherever possible I also collect certain foliages and keep them in glass bottles or decanters at strategic places in my house and my garden has some flower or the other which I add to this.I use hibiscus a rose or gerbaras...

When I was married six years ago, my future husband and I opted to go with artificial flowers instead of the real ones because we knew that they would be able to hold up. No one knew that they weren't real and the price of them was actually more affordable than using real flowers. We still have them today and they look lovely on our mantle. When we are using artificial flowers we don't use incense to give a scent because both my husband and I have airborne allergies and incense upsets them.

Hiee My mother is nature lover, we stay on second floor in the apartment. my mother made our balcony a small garden.. where she planted 20 varieties of plants including flowers. so, we never had a problem for flowers, for Pooja. we do use artificial flowers also for decoration purpose.

hi professor sorry but I am not Indian, I am American but learning much about your culture. I have seen some artifical flowers that really do look real, more expensive than the usual ones but look really good but of course have no scent. fresh flowers sound really worshipful used the way you use them, and I am indeed not mocking you at all. we all have our own ways to worship and' it sounds beautiful to do so with flowers

here in our place, there are few flower shops around 2-3... but they are pretty costly.. one bouquet could reach up to 300 each. we used to buy flowers for my dad's grave.. but when we leave it for a week, the flowers wilt and they make my dad's grave even more dirty,.... so we thought of buying some plastic ones and they always look perfectly fresh.. ^_^ we also light incense to make up for it as well...

dear professor, there are so many artifical flowers nowadays that looks like real and looks very nice in the corner portions of the house. i guess reason why there is less real and fresh flowers in the city is the 45 degrees heat that you are experiencing now. i am sure no flower will bloom in that kind of temperature at present. but our cultures as asians, we always decorate and offer flowers in the altar for our prayers hence gods will understand our intention. here in our country the flower business is good and we have plenty. we also place in altars. incense stick not so much. we use bulb shaped like candle flame and use electricity to light the altar. others use ordinary candles. happy posting, ann

Well, I notice that when artificial flowers are so beautiful we say "Wow, they look real!" And when real flowers also look so perfectly beautiful, we also say "Wow, they look so beautiful, they look artificial". Both are actually beautiful but on different levels.
