I was so mad the other day when I brought my pup to the local mall in my area. My pup was on a leash and was bringing him inside the mall because I was going to buy her booties and cute costume or dog clothes. The guard was really rude he signaled me to stop and said in a loud voice "NOT ALLOWED!" I asked him why like a parrot he just kept repeating not allowed. I was so pissed off for the treatment I have composed a letter to the mall manager about their employee's rude behavior and I also wrote telling him that I find their store policy a hypocrisy. They would not allow dog owners to bring their pet yet they sell a wide array of dog accessories and other dog products! Also they even staged a dog show in november saying that they love dogs! what a lie!
is there anyone who has a similar issue? don't you find it rather annoying that stores who sell pet products does not allow you to bring your dog with you? In my own point of view they better not sell at all!

I have the same experience with you with supermarket who have pet shop, they don't my dog ( at that time he just puppy ) in, so I leave the supermarket and shop in supermarket in front on that supermarket and buy a lot stuff. We parking at the first supermarket so I have to bring my grocery there, they security saw me and I am just smiles to him.

is that your dog? it's cute! hahaha good thing so they'll know that they have lost busines with you. But know what the guard won;t probably care he is just an employee and whether you shop or not he still gets paid and that is all that matters to him I guess it would have been better if it was the mall manager who saw you he would have understood and instituted policies so that they will be able to keep their business.

This is an ongoing issue. I was kicked out of the mall before Christmas because dogs are not allowed unless they are a working (seeing eye) dog.
I find that for myself and my dog personally that it is a bonus when stores do allow dogs.
Never ever should you walk your dog into a store on a leash but carry them.
Even then you may be asked to leave.
Their are health bylaws that require retail outlets to abide my this law otherwise they can loose their license.
There are a number of stores that do allow my dog but if her feet touch the ground the store can have it's license revoked.
There are some stores that will allow my dog in, if she is contained in her bag that is totally enclosed. These stores sell food.
It is to my advantage that my dog is a toy dog, so is easy to carry.
there are other stores that don't sell food but will not allow my dog, even if I carry her, claiming that they have an employee that has allergies. Meanwhile, my dog is hypoallergenic. I didn't bother to argue but abided. Meanwhile we had frequented the store for the past year. I do not shop there anymore and likely wont.
There are stores and shopping centers that sell dog cloths and accessories but under no circumstances allow dogs in the store and I fully understand.
Business is business and letting a dog in so to avoid an irrate customer is not worth loosing thier license. Wallmart is a good example.
So it is up to us to measure our dog, bosy and feet and shop for them this way. If the fit isn't right, the item(s) can be returned with a recipe. Just leave the tags on while fitting once home.
To write the mall to complain about an employee was sort of useless as security is not a mall employee but on contract. Security is only doing thier job.
Rather than being rude.
What got me is that the security that kicked me out of the mall was a guy I went to highschool with. I felt he was pushing his weight around but I know that he was just doing his job in the way he was trained to do.
We were in the mall because my dog was visiting the Santa there. She really liked him, so we were considering getting some photos taken there. We had already had Santa pics taken but she didn't like the Santa so the picks were not worth what I paid.
We never did get the pics taken with the Santa in the mall because we were asked to leave.
The bottom line is the allergy aspect but also most malls have a food court or even adjacent resturants.
Licenses cost a lot and is not the mall itself but the city bylaw office who you might want to complain to because they are the ones who make these laws.
Not the mall manager.
There are some larger department stores that do sell food but also dog cloths that do allow my dog into to try on cloths and shoes, unlike Walmart. The bottom line is that her feet can not touch the floor.
Out of all stores she has been allowed in, whether they include food in retail or not, they tell me as long as I hold her and she is well behaved there is no problem.
If your dog is too large to carry, then you amy as well face the fact that your dog can not enter most stores.
Most malls bear signage on the entry doors stating no dogs allowed unless seeing eye dogs. If you look closely you will see the bylaw number on the sign as well.
People can sell whatever they want but if dogs are not allowed for the reasons they are not then that is just the way it is. The items can be returned if they don't fit.
Through my experience, I find most cloths I have tried on my dog in stores don't fit worth a darn.
Cloths I have bought off Ebay are not only less expensive but have fit perfect. Plus the variety is unsurpassed.
Try it.
I hope you can find what you want for your dog.
Just use the search option in EBay IE: Dog booties to see what you can find.

I agree with you completely, that the pet store should of thought this out long before they agreed to rent the location. Downstairs with street access would of been more appropriate for sure not to mention convenient for their customers and their pets, such as yourself.
I am really sorry to hear of this dilemma for you! It sucks.
Have you voiced your concern to the pet store manager and suggested that they open downstairs? I would be curious what their response was.
You are in the Philippines? I am in Canada. I just got my dog a really awesome pair of water proof boots plus a pair of open toed sandals, both under $10 shipping included and they came from Hong Kong!
I still urge you to check it out.
For an example, go to Ebay and search the term: leopard print dog boots
You will get results back with probably several that show are from Hong Kong.
I have a hunch that shipping for you to the Philippines would be reasonable enough. There are actually many stores based in Asia that provide dog cloths and accessories.
I wish you luck and that the pet store may relocate for obvious reasons.
The way that it is now is silly. Thank you for your comment.

I understand that laws are laws and I can take that but I think they should also be considerate of their customers. If they don't allow dogs inside the mall at least they could have located their store which is owned by the mall, downstairs that could have a separate entrance and can be accessed from the street. Unfortunately for me I live in a small city and this is the only place that sells pet accessories and dog food etc. so I do not have a choice. Ebay shopping in my country ....well they charge a lot for shipping! That's the thing that turns me off so I go to this local mall.

Some places have the no dogs rule, some don't. Personally I would rather go to the place that allows the dog, but the attitude of the store guard is pretty bad.

yes the guard's attitude was pretty rotten and not suitable for someone who works at customer based kind of job. He is a liability to the company instead of being an asset. I wish there were other pet stores around other than this one, unfortunately this is the only mall that carries these pet items.

Are you saying that it was a pet store you were trying to access via the mall and the guard asked you to leave?
Does perhaps the pet store have access from the street?
Most pet stores encourage us to bring our dogs in.
Too bad if they don't have street access as the bylaws (no dogs allowed) within Malls can deter business, such as that with yourself.
Unfortunate situation for them! The pet store, if this is so.

I have experienced the same thing at my mall. I had my yorkie in his carriage, sound asleep and a security came over and said it wasnt allowed. I told him I was training the dog to be around people. He assumed he was a service dog, I let him believe it. Some stores will only allow service dogs. Throw an orange or yellow vest on him/her and call it a day. LOL dl

Gee D there aren't many service dogs in my place. I mean I could only count. One thing I saw one time that a blind person was detained by the guard because they won't let her dog in and this is the same mall! The family of the blind woman was outraged but had no choice. They left the dog inside the car and they guided the blind woman in. It's just way too much and now I am more outraged thus the letter I have made and will hand carry tomorrow! I also have the same reasons as yours that I want my dog to socialize and be around people. The experience might have been good for him aside from us buying clothes.

I had an incident of the same.I used to have a maltese and I stopped at the grocery store,I took him in carrying him,he was a tea cup maltese. The store manager yelled at me to get the dog out.He said the hair will get all over. Now when I shop I notice human hair on items in the store.Malteses are non shed.I felt mad because he was pcket sized and if the dog is being carried how is he hurting anything? They were jerks about it.

I'm sorry to hear that and the wa you were treated. Even if he was the store manager it wasn't right for him to yell at you. Darn, I would have written a letter of complaint to the higher officer in the store. Well, I guess you should have pointed out the human hair also to them and made your complaint. Tell them that's unsanitary.
There are a lot of people who are ignorant about pets. That's because they don't own one. wish they would educate themselves.

There are malls that have doors outside of the malls so you can bring in your pet. However, I find the attitude of that guard also rude. I also once brought my toy dog in a mall here and the guard ask me where I am going, I told him that I'll buy some stuffs for my pets. He told me to leave the dog outside first and go to the booth where the pet stuffs are being sold and request for a rolling cage before I can bring in my pet. I understand them because there are lots of incidence of dog-biting other mall clients in the mall.

that's the same thing the rotten guard told me he said "you leave your dog outside and you can come in" duh as if there was someone to look after my dog. Not to mention dog with a breed in my country costs a fortune and I paid so much for my dog, I wouldn't just leave it outside where someone would dog nap my pet! dog napping is now increasing in my city, they are being resold or eaten by some rotten locals. so that's the reason I wouldn't leave my pet! Also they should have anticipated their customer's needs when they were trying to sell dog products that some pet owners would like to try on the clothes on their pet so it would be the perfect fit. Especially with their no return no exchange policy. I mean isn't it too much on their part?

Sorry can't say I have. Over here its against the law to bring a dog into a public business with you unless its an assistance dog used to help the blind or people with conditions that they aren't physically able to do everything for themselves. The only place I know of that allows pets is PetSmart. A lot of places sell pet products though but that doesn't mean they have to let them in there.

I have taken my 3 pound chihuahua in many stores. Lowes, Walmart, General Dollars, Fred's and several others who have dog items, but I guess it totally depends on who's at the door or wherever. I actually took my tiny dog to Walmart in the garden session, and the man who works out there with the flowers and trees and things, was acually giving my dog and me a dirty look, but he didn't say anything. I carry her in my purse and half of her sticks out, because she wants to see everything.

that's the advantage of toy dogs....my jack spitz is quite big and heavy to be carried inside a doggie bag, I bet if she was that small I would have been able to get away with it lol.

It sounds to me like they really need to make up their minds, either they love and accept dogs, or they do not!! It does sound hypocritical. Maybe you'll get a positive response from your letter.

i hope so...I just wanna let them know that they have not anticipated their customer's needs. they should get a wake up call somehow. I am also sad that most people around her are really not dog lovers. I mean almost every house has a dog but then they neglect their dogs. they let them stay out in the heat and rain without even a shelter they can go in. So when it comes to bringing dogs inside the mall for a dress fitting I don't think I have that kind of support from the community but I will still write a letter to make people aware and to get dog lovers to act.

Where I live there are very few places that will allow you to bring your dog along. Actually, there is only one place that I can think of where I can take my pets and that is the Pet Smart. The other stores have it written and posted on their doors that animals are not allowed unless they are service animals. In one sense what you are saying makes good sense, but in the other, it makes sense to not allow animals when they are selling things that aren't all geared toward animals because there are a lot of people in this world that are allergic or afraid of animals.

There could be a number of reasons why these malls are so literal about this policy of not letting your pet in. NOt all dogs are wild. Not all dogs are rabid and will go around biting people. Some dogs are trained and even behave better than many humans. There must be an exception to this rule.

I haven't experience that cause I really don't bring my dogs at the mall or any establishment but my sympathy goes to you. That is rude way of approaching your customer, sometimes I hate guard. They think that they are the boss where they were assigned. They forget that they should treat the customer right. I have many instances that the guard were acting annoying towards me, I sometimes snob or answer back at them. Even if I look young and soft they still should treat me right which I deserve. You should ask for the mall manager or any superior same date and time. That guard should be enlightened and orient on how to treat the customer and the mall administration should talk things out regarding that issue and made a great deal.
