Oh, ALICE, I need an informed opinion!

I started a discussion updating my friends on a kitten I placed last year. To do so, I found my discussions about her to give some references to some people who weren't my friends back then - and to remind folks who I was talking about. Then I included a new picture of the cat. And mylot took it down and tells me I need to post this in my own photos... Well, how would anyone know to look at my photos for new pictures of the baby? And really I was updating folks on how she was doing and that strikes me as discussion material... I honestly don't know why it was taken down. And do I have a stalker now? Someone out to get me? Getting discussions taken down on their whim so they complain? Honestly, this will probably be taken down so I don't know if anyone should even try to respond to it - but I sure do wish there was a better way to contact the admin to understand why some discussion get taken down. I really didn't think that one should've been.

I don't understand this, either. I've seen lots of photos in with posts! Why would MyLot even care? Who is hurt by sharing photos? Sure, you could post it in your own private photos, but why would you have to? You'd have to put in any discussion you entered, "More pix in my profile--go look," which is another step to have to take, so it's inconvenient & unnecessary. At the root I still ask, why does MyLot care?? They surely do have a lot of inexplicable rules! "Puzzly-puzzle, wonder why." ~ John Lennon Maggiepie Put that "misfit" topic in Open Mike! Well, MyLot does seem to get upset when people discuss them, but if they don't want that to happen, then all they need to do is be quicker to respond, & much more clear with the rules. Otherwise, it's inevitable for people to keep breaking rules we don't understand! As for the gambling bit, nah. I just don't care. I asked things which must be asked. If they want to get into a snit & take this down, well, they can. They're the bosses. But it is rather high-handed to remove a discussion so coldly, with a vague explanation, which, typically, IS what they do! If Alice (who seemed nice) would come in & explain better, I'd listen. But something such as this episode makes me wonder whether they've relapsed into their old, distant, Olympian ways of (not) dealing with us mere mortals. (Sigh...) And I had such high hopes, too... Hi Moon! Yes, the Open Mike category was just begun--by moi! I started it because I got tired of trying to post in the Political category, for 2 reasons: One, it's not a large category, so few get to see my posts, & two, it is such a small category for one main reason--a lot of really nasty posters there chase nice people out when they disagree with their view. Some people leave MyLot altogether, thinking why bother? The ugly name-calling, the stalking & getting your posts deleted on trumped-up charges, in short, creating a vile atmosphere that stifles both debate & news, well, I just started posting in Q&A or MyLot general categories. UNTIL...MyLot wrote & inquired why I didn't post my "wonderful" political topics there. I thought & though about what to do, in case MyLot got angry & forced me back into Politics, so for all those reasons, I created Open Mike. And there was another reason, that being that politics can't be as narrowly-defined as some other topics can, & I found it difficult to squeeze related topics into the straight-jacket of a single, one-size-fits-all category. I told MyLot so. Eventually, therefore, I decided that MyLot needed a "category" that allowed topics to mutate, to expand, blend with related or even seemingly unrelated topics, & the rest is history. It's been like taking off a girdle! I can breathe now! It seems the ideal solution, to me, & it seems to be catching on! Do you like this new category? Maggiepie TOPIC TOO WEIRD OR TOO BIG FOR ONE CATEGORY? LET IT BE FREE IN OPEN MIKE!

I'm still waiting for a reason for the discussion I posted in having been deleted, as well, because I couldn't understand it. I asked Alice here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2219127.aspx The discussion you describe sounds completely harmless and I cannot understand a reason WHY it was deleted either. I wish that mylot would quote the guidelines when they delete something or explain in the guidelines more precisely, so this doesn't happen. I mean, how are we supposed to know what NOT TO post if they can just arbitrarily delete stuff with no real reason. It boggles the mind and just plain IS NOT FAIR!

I'll continue to respond to you in the other discussion as well. I understand your concern. We actually do quote the guidelines (and the Terms and the FAQs) in some of the deletion notifications as they apply to the person who has lost the primary post.
