Born with closed fists

India

We have a say here in India, this means, each of us was born with closed fists and die with palms I mean fists wide open. This has great inner meaning. We came here with our karma in closed fists, earn here, marry here, have our family, houses all pre-decided. But when we die, we leave everything here, carry back nothing, palm is open. If so why much so much craze, fight for the money, property? Spend the money, if you have more than what you need, (after you save some for bad times) for some good cause, help the poor and needy, donate to schools, colleges, churches, temples. Be sure you will get back many times more. This is my view, do you agree? Share your views on this topic. Happy posting, cheers Prof

Overall I would say that I tend to be a frugal person. What I mean is that I don't like to spend a lot of money in my day to day life. Of course a lot of the reason for this could be the fact that we don't have a lot to spend. However, I think that the main reason that I don't spend a lot of money is because of the fact that we really don't have a lot of money. I know I can't take anything with me whenI die, but I also realize that I can leave debt behind for my family when I die and I don't want to do that either.

hi Professor yes that is really true we c an take nothing with us. All I have ever wanted was just enough money to support myself and maybe help a few others along the way.One should of course save money back for the rainy days that always seem to pop up then any left should go to charities and to help others.I wouldlove to have enough extra money to donate to others to help less fortunate people but alas I am not fortunate either.

Hi professor, it would be easy to give away if it would be easy to plan life. :) I dont think most people qualify as selfish or miserly. They are just terrified at being found on the wrong foot, and having nobody around to help them out. If you look at inflation and the way medical costs are going, it is very difficult indeed to plan for a good retirement, especially in private employment. If there could be something based on which these two could be controlled, people would definitely be kinder, and less concerned. In brief, people save for their necessities and comforts, and then those of their children, and grandchildren. Its a different issue that once in every third generation one destroyer of all wealth has to come in. :)

I couldn't agree more. life here in earth should be about doing good and right things. Sometimes I wish I were stinking rich, just so I could help all the poor that I see. So i could help them get on their feet. put them to school, let them earn a living. have a business. stuff like that. but what I can only give is my spare food and some loose change

Hi Professor2010, Your discussion really made me think. Maybe the fists represent our minds. When we are born we know very little. As we grow we start to learn about many aspects of life. Hopefully we become wiser as we grow older. We can then pass on the wisdom to our family, friends and other people we meet in life. So we start life my taking (the closed fists), and finish our lives by giving (with the open hand). At least that is what we should be aiming for.
