I am just wondering why there are people who is really hard to teach? I had an officemate who commits the same mistake again and again. It maybe ok if the job is really hard that I may understand but the error is simply called carelessness as not just included in the print settings, not just included in the formula and so on. She knows the job well but committing petty mistakes that can cause a lot of trouble. What can I call her, stupid? or absent minded?

I'm not really sure why your officemate commits the same mistake over and over again. I am also not sure if she's really stupid or not just careful. Maybe she's not really concern of what will happen or the result of what she does. Some people are like that. They care less whether the outcome is mediocre or good. However, there are some people who are very careful and wants to make sure everything is perfect and organized. I'm one of those people. I even think I have this obsessive- compulsive issue specially in drafting corporate emails, reports, etc. I really want to make sure that everything is fine and no one will be able to criticize my work. However, I also know people who don't care whether they get criticized or scolded for simple mistakes. What's important to them is that the job gets done.

I disagree with you on that part you said they are few. The place I work with we have lots of them. hahahaha! Consider your self still lucky since you only have one. It's so frustrating working with these type of people specially if you have to deal with them and their incompetent output everyday. Everyday at work I have to deal with at least more than 5 of these people. They give me headaches and I'm talking about co- Supervisors here. One time we had a meeting with our Site Director. She was so upset with the Team's Output. She started asking about our daily tasks. She was so shocked that I'm handling a Team which should be handled by two Supervisors. She was even shocked when she learned that I'm not a part of the Training Team but I'm also doing a Training for the new employees since one of the company's Trainer has resigned. Another shock she received was that I'm also doing some reports usually being done by our Assistant Program Managers. She asked me why I'm not asking for any help from one of our Supervisors. I just stared at her. I can't say in front of all the other Supervisors there that I don't know who I can trust to accomplish those tasks without error. I had an experience where I assigned one of the tasks to my co- Supervisor. What happened was I still had to revise the entire report he did. It gave me a headache. Based from my experience it would be better if I'd just do the task my self.

As mostly done, we check and recheck our work before submission to be sure that there will no problem thats why I can't really help thinking why there are some people who just do the job and don't care what happens after. When mistakes has been discovered they just smile and just sorry I haven't seen the error. I am just upset maybe since if just been checked time in rechecking and reconciling will be also minimized. I also believe that these people are few and i am unfortunate to have one here.

Have you watched Avatar friend? There lies the answer why people are really hard to teach, specially those people who are relying on their own principles of life... it is said that a cup already full could not be filled anymore. when someone would insist he/she knows everything, then you could not teach him/her anymore! Or unless he/she would open his/her mind... the other one, a cup that is empty can be easily filled! Jake in Avatar said his cup is empty, so he learned fast!

I agree to that maybe they really believe in themselves that they forgot simple but important details.

they are very confident to themselves that they become blind of many things.

If this is really is, then this will be a hopeless case hmmm hope not. Sometime overconfidence is not really profitable.

it's either she is absent minded due to other matters outside work (she may be having problems at home) or she just plainly doesn't mind committing mistakes or she just doesn't think what you're teaching her is that important. am 100% sure it's either one of these three.

Careless, lack of focusing? The remedy will be to double check her work whenever she finish the task. She have to check her own work so that the same mistakes is not repeated. By doing this, she will improve. Practice makes perfect. Perhaps she tends to do her work in a rush and she is not focusing 100%. Her minds could be wandering elsewhere. She need to build interest in her task. All the best to you. Don't let her mistakes be your stress.

Some persons are just like that, they are totally careless and stubburn, no intention to learn any thing or rectify their mistakes.. Thanks for sharing. Welcome always. Cheers. Professor

Maybe they are also contented in what they have, no intention to level up so they fell no reason for learning.

Hi, I've been through teaching some workmates just like that, typographic errors, honest mistake and some forgotten things to do. Some forgot what I taught them or say that they even ask me the same question over and over again and I was nearly say that "Hey, I've told you that many times and you still didn't put that on your mind?" but I can't tell them that. I am practicing long patience when teaching the jobs. Maybe you can teach them the tricks and the easiest way to get the job ok or perfectly. I always says that teaching them some of your techniques and ways will help in polishing their skills. I also encounter newbies making their own strategy/techniques, I accept and listen to what they want to do but at the end of the day, I make them see what is the result of their work so they realize if their own techniques if better than mine. Use trial and error to further understand the job, it really helps. And the most important of all is your guidance and constant reminder of the things she/he should do. If your workmate still didn't get the job after several months of training and with all your guidance and help, then he/she is not fit for the job, better find someone else. hope this help a little bit.

Thanks for the advise. Is 6 mos not yet enough to learn from previous mistakes. I am just sighing much because I assume she had already learned with that time given.

That is too much to learn. Can you get another one to train? Maybe she is not fit for the job or she is still adjusting. Is her educational attainment fit for the job? or is she comes from other country. try to consider that.

well... I suppose some people are just born dumb. You know, how ever much you teach them, they don't learn at all..

i think that kind of person is an absent minded person, and yes you have your point that after a mistake she should learn from it so it will never happen again, and i can understand her if she will failed in the first time but if that would be habitual i think she is not fit to work in that position.
