TEXTING while Driving caused a HUGE accident, CAR Totaled!!

While I was driving home from work yesterday, I noticed a car that kept swerving around. Since I didn't know what the issue might be I was thinking maybe a drunk driver. I changed lanes to get away from the bad driver. About 2 minutes later, they jammed on their brakes for no reason that was apparent until the cops came. Turns out they were trying to text thur an arguement with their spouse. Not sure if they won the verbal fight or not but they totaled their lovely BMW, got their Iphone taken away and will do JAIL Time for causing the accident which injured 4 people!!! I wonder if they thought that they texting was SO much more important than other people's lives. Guess so, they'll be doing at least 3 years in prison for a stupd texting arguement that should have waited. Lucky for me I had changed lanes in time so I just got some paint scrapes and small dents from another car that swerved to avoid the whole mess. Cops really did a great job of managing the accident and I just lost 3 hours of my life in the reporting process but I didn't get hurt. Gotta love the air bags. I'm not sure that I think 3 years is enough since I am sure it will be plead down depending on how bad some of the injuries are. One fellow was very cut up and didn't look too good as they were working on him. His car hit hers when she jammed on her brakes and it's likely totaled too. What do you think? They totaled their car, police took the iphone and possible under 3 years of jail time. I think it should be more. You??

Those drivers that are texting are irresponsible drivers. They don't care about the danger they are risking on. It's alright if they cause an accident if only them and their cars are involve. It's to easy to avoid driving while texting. Why don't you text-back later after driving. Or stop for a while and text. For me, the best penalty for a person caught texting, is to confiscate the license and never return it.

I think they deserve jail term for sure. Why they do not understand the problem, this is not first time when we heard such type of news. Peoples should take lessions from earlier accidents and do not repeat them but there are many around us, cannot take lessions.

Why do people are fun of texting while driving if they know it's very difficult and dangerous to do it at the same time. It's much better to call while driving than texting.

This so assinine!!!! People are so selfish now days! It is horrible. They need to follow some rules and think of other people besides just themselves. It makes me so angry to hear of this happening. I think it happens way too often to be letting these people get off so easy. I hear about an accident caused by texting atleast several times a week. This is too much!

I think it is terrible that someone would text and drive. That is so irresponsible. I wonder if that person will really see 3 years in jail though? I guess it will depend upon how much money they have and how much they can pay a lawyer. I am sorry that you were involved. I hope that the people injured recover quickly and I hope that the irresponsible driver has great insurance! You would think so if she is driving a BMW.

All people who are dumb enough to text while driving need to be thrown in a giant vat of poo. I know that's gross but its nicer than what I'm really thinking.

Well, its a very bad habit to text or call during driving, and as you have mentioned its only one case. Thousands of cases happen just because of this reason daily around the whole world. I think the police should increase the punishment, so that with the fear of that, nobody would use mobile during driving.

I used to do that. Text and drive. But later on I realized that its really dangerous since I almost suffered an accident by doing such. I now no longer text when I drive. Perhaps their should be stiffer penalty on these actions to discourage texting while driving. This will surely prevent future accidents and of course save more lives.

This post made me scratch my head because there are just some drivers who were irresponsible. texting and answering to mobile phones while driving is been prohibited and why is it that there is still some foolish drivers who still do the texting even do know it's dangerous. For the life of me I can't understand how their mind work. Simply stupid. If the text is important then stop the car or the vehicle somewhere safe and resume the texting or calling. That is easy thing to do right. And why can't anybody follow or do it. Sometimes common sense is easily forgotten by those stupid drivers.

for me, texting while driving should be charged with attempted homicide or more penalty. IDIOTS only text while driving, it's okay to text while you are in a stop on traffic light but when the GREEN light is on, you should stop texting and continue driving without holding a cellphone. i also want more strict traffic rules for this issue. its not only the safety of your own but you are also jeopardizing other lives as well. its more worst than drunk driving.

Really, texting while driving will do harm in a persons' lives. In this context, I would like to congratulate the Philippine government for having a law regarding texting while driving, that if a traffic officer caught you texting while driving, you will definitely face consequences for your actions. I just hope that we will abide by laws in our country regarding the proper use of our mobile phones especially in dealing with the streets....

Texting while you are driving is not a safe practice. It is an accident waiting to happen. Your eyes leave the road to look at a text and that's all it would take. You are risking everyone's life if you choose to drive and text. It can be as serious as drinking and driving. The results could cost more than you are willing to pay.

I'm sure the other victims would sue them for irresponsible driving. Jail time should depend on the damage they brought to other people. If they just manage to destroy their own car and the bruises limited to themselves, a fine will do. I'm sure the will learn their lessons. But if other's people were affected then not only do they have to go to jail but they need to shoulder all the expenses caused by the damage.

people are so stupid, driving is something that needs concentration and why people think that they can txt or talk on the phone is beyond belief. if i drive my phone stays in my bag and if it rings tough, i'm not risking having an accident

I think taking away the cell phone won't do much she can just go out and buy another and have it reprogramed by her current provider. What I do know is if you are emotional you should probably not be driving such stresses can cause accidents because you cannot focus on the road properly. I'm sure the person will be able to plea it down to next to no jail time and perhaps a hefty fine ontop of being sued by the parties injured & possibly their insurance companies. I'm glad you did not recieve much injury or damage to your vehicle. That's also something you can call 911 over is a driver thats swerving for no apparent reason you know like debris in the road.

I will never understand how people think they have a right to text and drive. It has to be the dumbest thing to do. There have been so many people killed because of this. When driving you need to have complete concentration as to what is going on ahead of you behind you and on the sides of you. How in God's name do these people think its ok to text. I even think if you need to talk to someone on the phone you should just pull over and make the call. Because talking too is a distraction to me. Oprah has been having this big campaign for people to sign a "no phone zone" for their car. Everyone should be abiding by this rule and every stae needs to enforce it by passing a law that there is no texting and if you have to talk to someone you need a hands free type phone. Thankfully you moved to the other lane who knows what could have happened to you. I glad you are ok and I feel bad for the other people who got hurt because of the stupidity of the fighing couple.

In our country, texting while driving is punishable by imprisonment. With the life at risk, I think it is just reasonable. There were many accidents caused by irresponsible drivers. They don't realize the danger or maybe they are just too boastful to show that they can do everything at the same time.

I also don't like the people who texting while the are driving a car or motorcycle. Because they walk very slowly or can't drive well because of their focus on their texting activity. If i met that people, i will give them very loud and long klaxon until they know that they disturbing me and another people. And i will say that if you want to texting just step aside.
