After my last heavy stressful time I actually started getting up at a reasonable hour. I wasn't staying up all night some nights and just very late others. I have been plagued with insomnia most of my life but it worsened the last four years. Are you afflicted by it too?

I do deal with it..there are times I can't sleep at night at all an times I sit up all night then stay up all the next day trying to make myself so tired and sleepy that I will fall asleep sometimes it works sometimes not so well..have you tried any alternative medications or supplements? Melatonin? That is what they gave my nephew for his..here is a link..not sure if it will be helpful or not..

I do pretty much the same thing. I read info on this site long ago. One of my favorites. I do take melatonin. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I am only bothered by it rarely, but lately it has been a bit of an issue. I am not in as bad a shape as many people I have known both in real life and on the web. Stress does play into it big time.

That is good. I think it goes hand in hand with depression. Stress brings on the depression and then the insomnia.

this is one of my biggest problems in life. always has been. sometimes i even feel worse when i get over 6 hrs sleep at night. so by now im pretty used to it.
i guess there will be plenty of time to sleep when i reach the "Big sleep"
once in a while it will catch up with me and i end up sleeping a lot in one day. about every 2 or 3 months.@celticeagle (189825)

I go in cycles. Up all night for a period and just up late and I go to sleep at a pretty good time. Then I start over again.

No wonder you don't remember your dreams! You are so exhausted when you finally do sleep. I hit the bed and go right to sleep. I had a sleep study done once and they said I never sink deeper than the dream state..I don't fell rested by sleep. I have had trouble sleeping during periods of my life but not to the point that I would consider it insomnia.

I may not sink deeper either. I go in cycles. Not fun at all. I used to sleep for 12-14 hours when I was a teen. Maybe I made up for now then. DId that make sense?

Yes, there have been plenty of times in my life when I have been afflicted with insomnia. I haven't had it in a long time but I still don't sleep very well at night. I have a hard time relaxing my mind for one thing. I'm living on SSI every month and I worry about my money situation all the time. I take Tylenol P.M. every night and that seems to help me. I also listen to cds with soft music or natural sounds to help me sleep.

I usually do the same things. I am living in tight quarters right now and so even soft music might disrupt my granddaughter. I am on SSD and have the same problem.

Menopause, so I wake up with night sweats and my body thinks every time I have to get up and go to the bathroom. Some nights are worse than others.

hi celticeagle Ihad been using benadryl to try and break the insomnia
cycle but night before last it seemed to make things worse, I just did not sleep all night.so last night I aced the benadryl and just did not take it. I went to sleep a little while after I laid down woke once for a bathroom run, staggered back to bed and slept all night until my roomie woke me up at six this morning.so now am wondering if the benadryl was acually keeping me awake at night. lol.

Benadryl was suggested by my grandson pediatrician. I think some people are just sensitive to some things and not other. And, they seem to get to where they don't help anymore after awhile. I am definitely that way. It is frustrating cause I will find something that help and then it doesn't after a while. Ugh!
