How you plan your journey?

India

My journeys are mostly long distance train journeys that last for many hours, so I travel by air-conditioned coach only and book journey tickets well in advance. I always have my laptop with me and a dongle to access net anywhere. I purchase newspapers and magazines on way though the co passengers use them more than me. I just fail to understand why they don’t buy their own!! So how you plan your journey, do you buy tickets in advance? Do you buy books while travelling and carry your laptop and miniature Mp3 players to hear music, in case you get bored? Please share. Professor

For a long distance train journey it is economical to book my ticket in advance. It is cheap to go on a day trip by train if it is in the off peak time. Then I pay for my train fare on the train. There used to be a ticket machine at my local train station but not anymore. When I fly on a plane I book my ticket 6 months before my trip. If I go on a last minute deal it would be one week or two weeks before I depart. I use travel guide books to help me plan my journeys.

I usually buy train tickets or bus tickets well in advance if I am know that I am going to travel for many hours. I don't bring my laptop when I am travelling, but I always bring some books and some magazines. I love to read and when I am travelling for several hours I might as well make good use of the time. I also love to write and always bring some pens and my notebook, that way I am able to work on one of my stories or one of my poems. I also like to write to letters to my friends. Most of the time we exchange emails instead of snail mail letters, but when I am travelling I like to write letters by hand.

I always book as early as possible, and always have a book to read. I'm not a great magazine reader, I would rather read a good novel. I have my lapyop, but don't often open it. Mike.

hi professor its been so long since I traveled anywhere but I do take the little access bus to go to my doctors and I think to make a trip down to the beach one day soon. its hard for me to board so many of our local buses as they have hard to climb steps.I have a bad foot with heavy brace on it and a almost useless left arm due to a fractured shoulder that necessitated my having a shoulder joint replacement. so with the access bus there is the same steps but I am always helped up the steps, they all want to get me to up the side lifts but this gives me nothing to hang on to and my sense of balance is what caused that fall in the first place.well anyway I used to travel by bus in my younger days, and always got a kick out of it too. but now I would go by Amtrak our fast passenger service as they are really so nice inside. have not got a chance yet to travel on one.

Hi Bhuwanji I also plan well in advance and reserve my tickets and travel without any tension. I do not have a laptop but I will buy magazines and as correctly mentioned by you it will be more time pass for the co passengers more than me. I will make friends with co passengers and chat with them or simply watch outside from the window. I will carry small walkman in which i will hear music or play my favourite songs and hear

Yes I do buy my ticket and make reservations in advance because you will get cheaper rate that way, and you are always sure that you get a seat. I do plan my itinerary so that I will know how much does it cost me, I have a map with me, I also bring some gadgets like PSP-I play games so that I won't get bored and books to read on. I don't bring much stuff if I take a plane ride since it will only takes about 1.5 hour ride, but if ever I will go on a land trip that will took me for about 8 hours then that's the time I will bring bulky stuff with me like laptop and some books.

Most of the time I plan my journey in advance but from last two years it was all sudden journey for me except for the marriage. I had to travel Chennai,Hyderabad for bad reasons and it was all of sudden so could not plan, Had to get ticket in hurry and go. I read newspaper and listen songs most of the time. This time while coming back from homw I read 2 states novel by chetan bhagat and finished it befor reaching Pune. Reading novel is a good time pass if you are alone in the journey.

Im pretty much guilty when it comes to plannin my journeys actually i dont even plan at all lol. Sometimes out of nowhere a friend of mine will just come in our place and then tell me or ask me to go somewhere else and then we will be going like right then and there we will be planning the details and then we will go. Most of the time when we plan things then the more chance that the plans will not push through .So most of the times we dont plan at all to avoid such a thing already. Have a great day my friend

while i have never been able to travel by train, i know when i fly, i try to sleep. it is easier to just go to sleep and wake up when i get there. i always have things to do in case i can't sleep. I bring my laptop, books, and sometimes, you can just watch a movie on the plane. I don't travel much anymore because i have four kids, but I think your co passengers should be more prepared! i would never ask someone for their magazines to read!!! that is soooooo tacky.

i rarely travel alone so most of the time i prepare games with my sister to while away the time. oftentimes we just have a gab-fest until we both get sleepy. usually, we buy train tickets in advance just so we could avoid lines and other hassles. it's also always good to have a music player especially when you're traveling alone, that way you can block out the conversations of your fellow travelers that you just don't give a hoot about. an i-pod's good because you can play games and watch movies...a movie's usually for two hours so you're covered for that length of time. cheers!

I buy my tickets in advance especially when there are promos. I usually travel by air due to the time constraint of my leave from work. I can only have a leave of 6 days straight so I don't have the luxury of time to travel by land. But given the chance to take the bus, I would. I only bring my laptop with me. That alone will help me pass by time...
