July 4th Parade

In 2001 I entered my daughter in our July 4th parade as Betsy Ross. She was adorable! I made the costume from a white sheet and dyed it, myself. Then I borrowed a flatbed cart from Costco. I draped it in a brown tablecloth and made a "fireplace" out of a cardboard box. My sister loaned me her 200 year old rocking chair (child-size) and I ordered a flag to finish off the whole look. I dressed in brown to match the tablecloth and pushed my daughter through the street, assuming the role of the "chimney". It was a lot of fun and we won first place. It's fun to have the plaque hanging on my wall. I felt that we had really achieved something.

Sounds like lots of fun! But (& don't tell your child this 'til she's older), it seems that historians are now actually saying Miss Ross didn't design the flag folks thought she did, & that there were a number of different designs people used. And, the one most folks thought she'd designed was actually designed by a man...though I don't know whether it was he who really sewed it... I just saw this info on TV a week or so ago. Doncha just hate it when all of a sudden, "experts" come along & tell you everything you know is wrong? Me, I feel like slappin' 'em silly! Never-the-less, the people who gave the talk about this had real examples of the flags. It was pretty interesting, truth be told! Smoke? Woops! Sorry--didn't mean to do that! I'm just an inveterate factoid-monger! LOL! It looked like it was fun. Anyway, THANK YOU for the BR mark! MAKE my day (which happens to be my B'Day) why doncha? Oh, & it's Orthodox Christmas eve--so Merry Christmas! Maggiepie "Politicians & diapers have one thing in common. This sounds so adorable. Isn't it fun to remember what things we have done with our children.

Yes, thank you. I have a picture of the "mini-float" on my profile. I don't know how to post it on a discussion...or do I have to have a certain rating number like with the mylot code? I was very pleased with the way it turned out.

I will have to go to your profile. I have seen them put photos on them, but i do not know how. Right now my camera will only work when it is on the charger, and have not found the book for it so i am limited.

I just put a new shot of the costume on my profile. My daughter is standing in this photo and you can see a few more details. I'm just sorry it's a little fuzzy but it is soooo cute! I just had to share!
