what happens when you can't dream anymore..?

hiya friends...and not just those on my friend's list, but to everyone here i had an interesting conversation with a friend last night. she was a pretty straightforward person who actually managed to get me thinking a bit.. but no. the conversation we had had nothing to do about dreams or dreaming, but it got me thinking about it... sorry, but i'm not talking about the kind of dream that we have in our sleep. i'm talking about the dreams that we have for ourselves. our goals. our ambitions. our future that we want. the one that drives our veins to do everything we can to get it. the one that fuels our souls to move forward in our lives. the one that keeps us going no matter what may be ahead of us. sometimes it's also the voice in our heads that helps us decide which path to take on our journey through life. it's our dream. our very own dream which was ours to make into reality... emphasis on the word 'was'. so what happens when we stop dreaming? falling into a mundane routine that almost feels like we're trapped in a circle that we can't get out of. what happens when every action falls into rhythm to our routines... feeling safe, and getting comfortable with our predictiveness.. until we fear challenging ourselves anymore. we don't want to do anything new, because things are already fine as it is. and what happens when we can't dream anymore? when we reach a point in our lives where we have crashed and burned until we just can't get up properly.. until we just don't want to try again for fear of failure. until we just hate ourselves for not being able to get out of the hole we're in.. and it can be the other extreme. where we can't dream because we've achieved our self-imposed purpose in life.. you've already owned a successful company. built your own house with your own sweat & tears. raised a family of healthy loving heirs. achieve that magical number of dollar bills in our bank account.... we can never predict which situation will be ours to deal with. if it is, where do we go from there? where do you suppose we go from there? we all have our own situations. our own stories in life. what would you do...when you can't dream anymore?

i dont think i cant live without dreams ahah im a very dreamy person ahah im always imagining that the world is good with just happiness that was what i wanted to happen^^ sure people can argue too but with small things ^^ i dont think we can live happy without dreams even rich people that can buy almost everything still dream more and more. also if we accomplish everything we want is boring too bcs then is nothing else to dream about but thank god it never happens bcs there are always new things appearing so people cant never stop dreaming^^ that just happens when someone is so sad that cant see that there are still many to do in life. anyway i think that if we have a love we always have dreams^^ so lets all love^^

hi sweetloveforeve yeah....you have a point there. love makes the world go around. and love can make us do so many amazing things too....and sometimes some naughty things too. but what shall happen if someone gets too hurt because of love that they don't want to be hurt anymore, thus refuse to even try and love again?

sure not mario^^ if someone hurt you and it ends it just means that that person wasnt the right for you and you can dream to find other person^^ we all have a soulmate destined so we cant stop dreaming till we find it^^ if a relation goes wrong just means that that person wasnt the one. even if it hurt us we must hope and be sure we will find someone else that will love us^^

Mario, dreams come from that we most need in life. Where do you come from? Love. People tend to forget that love and the willingness in life to dream and move forward can change you and those around you. Dreaming is the key to anyone's success in life. No matter who you are. We should never stop dreaming, that will destroy you. You don't only achieve things in life for yourself, but also for those you love or loved. Keep dreaming that will make a hell of a difference in your life. Oh, and before i forget, PLEASE, remember to stop and take a breather now and then, okay. TATA.

You just try harder. It will come to you. Never give up in life and NEVER fear to fail, that will make you fail. Believe in yourself then you will dream again.

all fine and true and valid points there dear... and i will try to get a breather once in a while but in this case... what happens when we can't dream anymore? when we reach a point in our lives where we have crashed and burned until we just can't get up properly.. until we just don't want to try again for fear of failure. until we just hate ourselves for not being able to get out of the hole we're in..

well..this may sound a bit like a cliché, but it's usually easier said than done.. the energy that is lost is quite difficult to regain. as if the mind wants to remain willing...but everything else has given up

Hey mario~ I hope that you will never find out the answer to that question and I don't think you will! You are still very young at are at the "top of your game" "in the prime of your life"! You have all the "best years" ahead of you! Look at what you already have! You have your own business and at your age that is quite the accomplishment and you can only go up from there. Whatever you want you can do because you have already proved that you are a "go getter"! You have now what some only dream of and never attain. I wish I was able to have gotten into some business that was my own or owned my own home at least. I did so many things wrong in my life and now it's way too late to fix anything and too late to dream. I actually never had time to dream because I always had to work to support myself and was never able to get ahead and put money away. You have a gift, believe me so use it and you will always be able to dream! Oh, and this "friend" sounds like she is pretty smart and keeps "mario" on his toes!

hiya Opal i hope that i won't come across that situation too... no matter how small, i still try and maintain a certain ambition for myself. it's just the lack of energy that's the annoying part. and being the part-time rocket scientist that i am, i've a strong hypothesis about the correlation of dreams and the energy we have in us... wow..i sound like Mr. Smartypants all of a sudden and that friend does sound pretty smart...but i can't stay on my toes for long. i didn't successfully complete my ballet classes...

Hi mario.... for me dream is a dream, but we often use this words like "dreams come true" but it will come true if we don't work on it. we will be having many ambitions, goals in our life, but it needs our try to achieve for it and hard work too. "Don’t let go of your dreams. If you have determination and belief in your dreams, you will succeed in spite of your desire to let go." this i read some where, but meaningful.

if you want to achieve something don't leave in the middle because of the interpreters or whatever may be the reasons, try it again and again till you success, that makes you perfect in the life...i know it must very hard, .. achieving something is in our hand, our dedication, correct plan, awareness of that particular thing what you want to achieve.. you should have perfect picture about it then i feel it is easier for you to achieve... keep faith in god and proceed.... rest all next....

hi Jotomy you're quite right there in saying that.. "Don’t let go of your dreams. If you have determination and belief in your dreams, you will succeed in spite of your desire to let go." but then...if we do achieve our dreams, or lose control of it while on the way to achieving it... where do we go from there? where should we go from there?

I think the moment you stop dreaming, is the moment you stop believing in yourself. People give in to the despair they're feeling and they don't know how to dream anymore. I wouldn't let that happen to me. There's always hope when you're alive. And I don't even think it's possible, for me not to dream that is. I always imagine things, and I always wish for small and trivial things. The point is, wishing for even the simplest of things is already dreaming.

...and we should let those family and friends in, and not block them out. sometimes we just don't want to hear their sharp words...but i guess that honesty is always best when dealing with family

hiya jerikjames you kind of nailed the point that i was trying to make... 'what happens when we stop believing in ourselves?', how do we push forward from there? unfortunately, this kind of things do happen to some of us in todays world. it's not something that we as individual people like to happen, but it does happen to some.. they have lost their self-belief until they even stop wishing for things, because they don't want to be disappointed if they aren't able to attain it. how can they push forward from there? they know they do have hope when they are still alive, but they have just lost the energy to follow-up on that hope of theirs...

That's where family and friends should come in. They should be your support group. Some people stop believing in themselves, so there should encouragement from their peers. Sometimes we have to find comfort in other people believing in us before we start believing in ourselves. But sometimes, even when nobody believes in you, you should never stop believing in yourself.

mario, I have posted a blog on "Dream to wake up'. Every one MUST dream. One without dreams is just breathing and not living. He will go nowhere. I think you should dream whatever bad state you are in, you should never stop dreaming. When you stop dreaming, your life is almost finished. I will rather die than just living without dreaming. very good discussion mario.

thanks vijay i haven't seen that blog yet, do send me a link or a PM it to me or something...i'm sure it would be a very good and interesting read well...sometimes some people can manage to get through their lives one day at a time..without any dreams driving them. kind of like someone who's in that proverbial state of limbo... it's kind of a weird experience in a way. but there are people like that

I wish that never happened with me because I am a big dreamer and cannot think of not having to live without dreaming.Dreams are what makes your life tolerable and worth living for because as you rightly pointed out these dreams are ' the one that drives our veins to do everything we can to get it. the one that fuels our souls to move forward in our lives. the one that keeps us going no matter what may be ahead of us. sometimes it's also the voice in our heads that helps us decide which path to take on our journey through life.' - Honestly I cant imagine my life without dreams..

scientifically we will lose the REM sleep....and it enhances our long term memory-Declarative memory.. may be the person sleeping near to you escapes from your hit or hug.. but some believe that dreaming between 4-6 am has something to do with the coming days..I doubt.it... dreams are good promoters..esp. if one has right attitude.. thanks for the topic... have a great day/night......

Yeah, when we can't dream anymore our life become boring. Like we do wake up in the morning, take a shower, breakfast, prepare to work, going to work, work, going home, dinner, watch tv and sleep. On the other day, the cycle goes around again and we will do that for forever. WE will get bored and we will get lonely without nothing to plan to achieve. We will not see our purpose. I believe everyday people dream, a nice car, a nice gadget, a beautiful house, but the difference is, some are trying their hard to achieve it while some keeps on dreaming and not taking action about it.
• Malaysia
10 Jul 10
hiya grecychunny i do think the same....that life will get boring when we stop dreaming. there won't be anymore 'will' to do anything, and we'd feel as if there's just no more energy left to even do something for ourselves

Hi Mario, I never let go of my dream as a child to live by the sea and in 2000 I finally achieved it but I haven't stop dreaming and never will, but my dreams now are more focused on my children and helping them to achieve their goals in life, Iam off to my daughters graduation next week and this is just so exciting for me. I still wantto achieve things for myself, I have already run a successful business and owned properties and lost them too in the last recession so for me now my dreams are smaller but more achievable, one is to get the garden looking good and after 4 years there are finally flowers growing there instead of weeds lol. These things make me smile and make my life worthwhile. Huggles. Ellie :D

I think everyday for me is not at all the same, as long as the world is revolving. Every morning keeps me trying hard to get to fulfill my goals. But if the moment comes that there's no really anything to do for those goals then at least keep your life useful and not sit back in a corner and let the world turn behind you. Keep wiith the flow and get yourself into action/
• Malaysia
11 Jul 10
interesting point of view there basqui buddy hmm..by keeping ourselves active would also keep our minds active...by forcing some physical activity, we'd inevitably force our minds to think. and if we can keep our thoughts on track, i'm sure forward would be the only direction that our minds will want us to go
