Ceiling Fan Problems! HELP!

I bought a new ceiling fan four the laundry room to help with air circulation on these hot Texas Summer months. Well I got it put together, got the electricity connected to it, then got it mounted and ready to go. I then turned it on and was ready to feel the cool air coming down from the ceiling fan. Well... it did not bring any air down. I then asked and was told to make sure that it was set to turn the right direction for Summer. Well looking and finding out it was turning the right direction it was still not working. So now I have no idea what is making it not push the cool breeze down from the ceiling. Has this ever happened to you or know what then problem is? I hope you can help!

Two things normally cause these problems. First, is the fan too wide for the size of the room? Often a smaller diameter fan is more efficient in a narrow room. Second, is it mounted too close to the ceiling? A space of at least 18 inches between ceiling and blades is required, preferably more. It is all a case of air circulation. Anything that prevents the correct air movement will make the fan useless.

I think you solved my problem! The room I have this fan in is very narrow in one direction and longer the other direction. This was a 42 inch fan so I am thinking that it may be to big for the room like you said! Thanks for this and I will be moving it to another room that needs a new ceiling fan! Once again thanks for solving my problem. The room was a 5 1/2 ft by 11 ft room. So could you suggest a size for that room?

Well maybe it is 6 ft but still - we were thinking about getting the smallest ceiling fan that Lows has and try that! Thanks for the help a bunch! :D

Only 5 1/2 ft! That is definitely the problem! I don't think any ceiling fan will work too good in that restricted space. Maybe you can get one of those 15 inch fans that hang at about 45 degrees angle and slowly rotate in a circle. (Sorry, I don't know what they are called.)

It may just be too hot for it to be effective, especially if you do not have an air vent in the room. It may be just circulating the hot steamy air from the laundry room. It cannot push down what is not there.

Well thank you for the information. I then thought I would take the fan to a different room that was bigger. Well... it still did not work and did the exact same thing it did in the smaller laundry room. So after all I just ended up returning that fan. It was not worth the hassle. Thanks for posting though! Happy Mylotting!

hi 13tyates why not try a wall mounted fan that makes a semicircle we have one above our table in the area in the long but rather narrow dining room that sits one hundred people. we have three fans one on the wall on our end one on the other end and a bigger one in the thrust out alcove. It really cools the air for our table and the ones to one side and behind us.We had a ceiling fan in the apt we were evicted from ant that one was huge and the darned thing swung so violently I was always afraid it was going to come apart and toss a fan blade at us.It was mounted over the dining table in a dining alcove. much too big for that small area. it cooled okay but the thing really looked unsafe to me.

That would be a great idea to use a wall mounted fan but there is really not that much room in there. Once you get 2 shelving unites, washer, dryer, a freezer, and another cabinet in there... there is no room for anything else on the wall. But that is awesome that it works for you! I think what I may do is try going to Lows this week and see what the smallest sized fan they have is and try that! Wish me luck... will post a discussion if it works out! Happy Mylotting!

Hi. 13tyates. This has never happened to me before. I wished that my husband could fix this for you. He is really great at fixing things like this. Hopefully you can find out what is causing your ceiling fan to not turn.

Flip the switch and change the direction of the fan blades anyway so you can see if that helps. You also might want to check to see whether you get cooler air circulation while the fan is pulling the cooler air up from below instead of pushing the hotter air from above down. Remember that hot air rises.

Welcome to mylot I think the problem may be due to following The blades became flat due to some reason, they are folded at a particular angle There is insufficient gap between ceiling and blades The blades are fitted wrong The fan is large for room Best thing you try a fan that can be fitted on the wall Thanks for sharing. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY We are observing today 15th August Cheers. Professor

hi 13 tyates, that is common in using the ceiling fans ,coolers and air conditioners in the home, because of excess heat in the homes in summer, but we do not have that trouble now because the season was changed here, from summer to rainy season,so now the weather changed to regular, have a nice day
