Hi friends! I feel that those of us who contribute in discussions here on mylot are ‘writers’of a sort. To me ‘writing’ on any topic is not an easy job, writing is a kind of creative thing (until and unless you are copying the text from some source). Would you agree with me that each and every member here on mylot is a kind of writer and mylot helps him sharpening his/her writing skills on various topics? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi there - long time no see I'm not really sure whether I can justifably define what I type here on myLot as something that would come under 'writing skills' but it certainly gives away the fact that I am a chatterbox I am happy to be able to come here and voncerse (even though it is through reading and writing) in English as I rarely get the chance to do so offline. As for any skills, well I'd rather let the experts classify my efforts - and while I was I typing 'efforts', I am well aware that I don't really put much effort into what I am posting here because I just mumble on and on and on and on and...

Hi mys! I have been keeping busy, therefore, action on my parts was missing. You are one of the best writers here on mylot and you lighten and brighten up a discussion, when you participate in it. I am serious, believe me. You know how to express yourself and you do your best to make others smile and laugh with your efforts. You do not mumble..........lol!, you always put the things in right perspective and that is treat to watch and read. (Please also keep in mind that for many of us English is not our first language, yet we keep trying to learn and improve upon ourselves). Have a great day! Deepak

I cannot agree with you more. I showcase my writing talent here specially by completing writing tasks which are countless in number. Also creating topics, responding and commenting here as you rightly said is an opportunity for all of us to keep in touch with our writing skills for which I am ever grateful to myLot

Hi Deepak, I don’t know about others (I don’t want to really tread on toes here) but I am certainly not a writer. Writing requires a lot of creativity which has to come naturally…even copywriters or journalists are not ‘writers’ so as to say…those are professional courses where, if you are good in a particular language, you are taught how to express yourself and how to touch on topics. However, most writers are naturally creative people…there’s certainly no course that I know of, which can teach you how to write a good story and go on repeating the same feat to earn a regular livelihood LOL I enjoy my English, I have always loved interacting in this language (in any form) and of course writing short notes on anything while remaining anonymous, has its own highs! Its kind of liberating for me and a learning process too! BUT I must say that I’ve come across quite a few mylotters here whose posts make a wonderful reading…they are all different types, some humorous, some acerbic, some have beautiful interplay of words and sentences…but they all manage to bring to life the situations they describe and make us (the readers) an integral part of it…I think that’s the best quality of a writer which most of us don’t have.

Hi Sudipta! Who says that you are not a writer? I find that you are one of the best 'writers' her on mylot, please take my words, am not saying it lightly. We are not professional writers, so to say nor can we. You may call us amateur writers? or even that term won't be suffice for us? What a writer does - Does s/he not express herself/himself on any topic? Of course command on language is necessary for becoming a very good writer and the knack of playing with words is also essential. Many of us may not have that quality in us, yet we make attempts. Do not you think that making attempts is a good thing? You yourself have admitted that you have seen some wonderful mylotters, who write so beautifully that you feel like interacting with them time and again. Have a nice day! Deepak

Dear dpk I truly agree with you that responding in myLot helps in sharpening my writing skill. It helps in my thinking and widen my horizon. I really learned a lot at myLot. For example I always admired people with blue eyes. I never knew that blue eyes can change its color to green depends on the person clothings and moods. It's really fascinating & I only knew all about it after I started a discussion on 'color of eyes'. I love myLot because it is like 'a window to the world', a platform to meet other myLotters and share and learn different cultures. It is also a place where I can meet wonderful myLotter like you. As far as I know you are really good in writing, indeed you are really knowledgeable in some difficult topics like 'characteristic of handwritings'. Thanks for a wonderful discussion and do keep in touch :)

Hi dpk! Couldn't have agreed with you more! We have myLot alot to thank for isn't it? I've had the opportunity to meet writers here who inspire and motivate, stories that warm my heart, a time to laugh and sometimes to think how silly I've been, a place to ponder, to reflect. I've also had the chance to meet many ordinary people but who have made extraordinary contributions to their own lives and people around them. It's here we hon our writing skills, improves our typing, find good advice, meet friends, a place to laugh, to learn, to share and to grow... Last but not least to earn.

Yes we are all writers and there are some VERY good writers on here. I am sure that we are all gaining a lot more writing and vocabulary skills by participating in the discussions and I would imagine that for non English speaking members it must be a really good help with their English. I am always very impressed with the way that the Non English speakers manage to write so well -- well done to you all!!

You are absolutely correct Dpk262006. Even if it is a response or discussion, it needs some thinking and putting forth proper words. Hence all the Mylot members are writers only. In mylot, our writing skills, thought process and knowledge level, everything improves. I have not seen any other site so interesting and also remunerating.

Hi dpk, I have never thought that I can even string two words together let alone having to interact with people who are already established writers. Never knew that joining mylot has unearth the hidden gem in me which only needs a little polishing to officiate my unborn talent.. I agree with you that many here have the writing skills that can really mesmerized me to no ends with their interesting write-ups. That explains why I overstayed my tenancy in mylot as my interest in writing has been awakened by reading what others write here and the fact that everday promises some interesting topics to read glued me to this site for years. And I have deposited all that I read and learned to my knowledge bank which have made me a lot wiser without leaving home to earn what I have learned here. Mylot has indeed turned into a writers' platform to lure novice like me.

I can say that each and every one here is a writer in his/her own right. Some has potentials of being a good writer , you just can see it by the way they wittingly posted their discussions. Some needs further honing and some are not, well, not so into it. But for me, the most important thing about being a writer is the ability to convey the message to the readers. It is the skills to make the reader transcends from one place to another as if they are the character and just the reader, when what they've read is felt, seen, tasted and understood. A writer can make anything possible. One must have the passion for it in order to hone that skills to its greater potential. Have a wonderful day, my dear. Hey, you are one of the writers I always look forward to reading your works.:-)

I agree with your views that we are all writers here in our sense and some of us need to polish our skills and some are already very good writers. I endorse your views that if we are able to express ourselves, our thoughts, our views and our feelings in a meaningful manner, it makes us a good 'writer'. I can say with conviction that you are one of the best writers here and I always look forward to participate in your posts.

I agree with you that if one writes one is a writer. Of course if one considers the commercialization of writing, which is what many of us are exposed to, one perceives certain characteristics essential in claiming the title of writer. I don't. People that write here on mylot are indeed writers in various stages of developing their writing. Simply by writing here shows the desire to write. I don't think its about the money for most. Certainly it is not about the money for me. While writing may at times not seem easy, it is rewarding in that allows others to share in one's expressions of emotion, art, knowledge etc. It is a skill that is developed through practice and this is just as good a forum as any other to learn.

Hi pt! I agree with you that most of us, who participate here, are writers in one way or others and many of us are in various stages of developing our skills. I think the one can express his/her thoughts affectively is a good writer. Everything should not be judge by way of earning or commercial aspect. I do not work here for money, it is secondary to me, I just enjoy sharing my thoughts here. Thanks for sharing your wonderful views.

Very True words here for sure. That is one of the great things about being a member here on myLot is that we can be creative, and use our own thoughts, ideas and talents sharing with others dreams and thoughts we might have never been able to express otherwise. Some of us here may even be inspired to want to write more and more to where we eventually write a book and post "REMEMBER WHEN?" Personally overall for writing this still continues to be one of the better places to be.

Hi Deepak! mylot discussions definitely bring out a good number of perspectives and sometimes I do marvel how people think ; another strange thing is that many people do have similar experiences like our own and similar attitudes.THere would be marginal variations but minor reactions have been similar in the case of a good number of friends.I find it heartening. But I would still only feel that we are writers of ' a sort'; as for sharpening our skills on various topics I am not too sure whether I agree. We get different view points, we discuss; but I feel this alone does not sharpen my skill .It would have really sharpended my skill if I had to summarize a discussion after going through all the responses and write once again as a conclusion. One gentleman had also suggested earlier that I write well and I should do so.Perhaps it is time for me to sharpen my writing skills. There is a long way to go.

Thanks Deepak! And you are one of the sweetest friends here who would always say kind words .Well 'of a sort' is what I do agree with and we do make honest attempts. In fact, after I started writing here I realised that I can voice a number of my thoughts even on a general issue [apart from real subject lectures ]in a cogent manner that would appeal to the reader. I have had many encouraging responses and comments that have gone a long way in boosting my confidence .to all my friends here.
