Today is the first day of the rest of my vacation - the school had other ideas

Tuesday Dearra's school has back to school day or whatever it is. We have to go get her gym clothes and locker and I don't know what all. So a long trip is not happening. Money would be another reason. I really want to pay off the credit cards by the end of the year. So anyway, today I'm taking my foster kitties in to the adoption center. Hopefully they will both find a nice home. Lombard is a beautiful tortie with a crooked tail (like Lombard street lol) and Skye is a siamese tabby mix, also gorgeous. They're both very sweet. Anyway, if we can take care of school duties early on Tuesday, then we can take off for a camping trip. I am thinking of going to Redwood National Park, though that is a bit of a drive (6 1/2 hours). We have to be back Friday to head south to Santa Maria for a party at my Aunt's house. After that I have three more days off. The twins start school two days after Dearra does and no day care. Anywho, y'all won't be seeing too much of me the next week and a half because I'll either be gone or the kids will be hogging the puter. But I figured I'd put up at least one more cheesy discussion before end of month and see how I do. :-) Who else has vacation planned and what are you going to be doing with it? Do you have the annoying tendency to plan something and the schools, work or some other thing manage to mess with you?

It's usually R's work, not mine, that destroys plans...

School starts back here on August 4th..and they didn't get out till June 11th I think, But they had a month of make up days before they could get out(do to bad winter ice storms) and are going back early. We had our last fun out day Saturday we drove a hour away to go swimming and had alot of fun..thankfully no sunburns this time.. But the kids are happy to be going back to school to see their friends again..not so much about getting up early again though..lol

Actually the kids love it that means less school days in the winter and they can play in the snow and all. But they do hate that it eats into their summer vacation some. School extended the time they get out by 15 minutes. So now kids are getting home 30 minutes later then usual since they take about 15 to get on the bus and then the drive home. Because it helps make up time/days lost.

well, I don't have to worry about school interfering with my plans, but since I never get any days off, work does that!

I hope that you have a wonderful time with your children. I would have loved to have been able to take a vacation this year, but it wasn't able to happen because of money issues. We don't want to cut off our nose to spite our face so to speak. However, my daughter does have a three day fall break coming up in October and we are thinking about taking off for a long weekend to either Gatlinburg or St. Louis at that time. Of course, this all depends on whether or not Hubby's parents pay us for the car that they "bought" off of us.

This has happened to me so much over the years when I was raising my own child. Every year I thought I would have the chance to do do something great only to find myself either only enjoying a regular weekend or a national holiday 3 day weekend. It certainly shows that we have to put up with a lot for the family before we can have fun but sometimes we can still make the most of it even if it is so short lived.

If I had called and confirmed the dates earlier, we could have left on Saturday and had two more days of vacation!

Money is what messes with my vacation--lack of it, if I am not working, earning it and on call if I am working. I hope you guys have a good camping trip.

Nope, I hardly ever plan vacations, and when I do absolutely nothing will come in the way of it.. nothing else would be important enough. My mom just planned a vacation, she left yesterday.. it would be her first vacation in probably over 20 years. I was there visiting her a few days ago when her mail came and she got a letter that she has an appointment at social services... her first reaction was fear that the appointment would be during her scheduled vacation... thankfully it's for the day after she comes home so it doesn't mess anything up. Like me, I think she would have skipped the appointment to go on the vacation though!

Life with school-aged children is great, isn't it? I'm so very glad those days are behind me! My husband actually told me that I could plan for a week at the ocean but, as usual for me, life got in the way and that won't be happening THIS year. I started having a pain in my shoulder about three weeks ago. It continued and got worse, with pain radiating down my arm to my hand. Then, my fingers went numb. I just saw an orthopedic surgeon on Friday who said my problem is not in my shoulder, it's in my neck. He saw bone spurs and an unidentifiable "thing" on my cervical spine. He's sending me to a spine specialist. From what I've read about the symptoms I'm having, it looks like there will be surgery in my near future. I'm SOOOOOO not looking forward to that! It scares me to think that they'll have to be working so close to my spinal cord. But, that's life... for me, anyway. I've had 28 surgeries already so one more ain't no big thang. This one has me scared, though. Sigh! This summer has been a total bust for me. First, we had over 30 days of 100+ temperatures. Then, as soon as it begins to cool down some, I have this neck problem. This would have been my first vacation in over 20 years! It sucks, big time! Well, if I do need surgery, I'll plan on a really terrific vacation next year and knock on wood that it doesn't fall through. If I don't need surgery, I'll have to forego a vacation this year anyway because I have to wear this stupid soft neck collar. I hope you have a grand time on your camping trip! It sounds like a great vacation... getting away from home, spending time with nature. Ah, how I envy you! Enjoy!!!

We’ve just finished school holidays here. We are limited with our holidays because my husband cannot take any leave except in December just before and during Christmas. His boss will not allow any time off during the year. When my mother in law was dying from cancer and my husband asked his boss for a week off for us to travel to the other side of the country to spend time with her, his boss said no and gave him only two days; he had no interest in the fact that my husband would not ever see his mother again! Anyway to get back to your discussion, have a good break and enjoy the time with your kids, hope everything goes according to plan...

Ah, I'll miss your cheesy discussions - hee hee (aw, they're not all cheesy - hee hee). Nope, no vacations here . . . hubby may be getting promoted just next week and as his job is still relatively "new", he's not going to be able to take a chunk of time off for a long while. We want to save all we can anyhow. Wow - your kids start school early - my daughter won't start until middle of September. Is it an orientation that you have to go to with Dearra - I seem to remember having to do that . . . I also remember hearing that for PE we needed a sports cup (guess I missed WHO needed them) and I got so embarrassed after the woman at the student store counter yelled only BOYS needed them - ha ha. I also remember the gym shorts I had to buy from the school were wayyy too big - like a parachute. I haven't had to deal with outside forces spoiling much of our plans (yet) . . . but we usually don't make major trip plans (maybe when baby boy is a bit older). You go have a great time camping . . . enjoy, relax, and unwind!

Her gym stuff that we bought her for 6th grade still fit her. Anyway, we have to turn in paperwork, get her locker, her gym clothes, I guess the location of her classes, etc.
