silly song from Charlie the Unicorn (sorry).... I spent two days up in the Redwoods taking lots of pictures. I'll be posting them to my Multiply account once the upload. But meanwhile, let me tell you about the wildlife up there, one critter specifically that we saw quite a lot. What do you think we would have frequent sightings of up in the big woods? Bears? Nope. Deer? Didn't see a one. Elk? Nuh uh. Jay birds? A few. Crows and ravens? Also a few. Chipmunks? A fair number. But what we saw most often were... drum roll... Ta da! Banana slugs. Yep, and I got lots of pictures too. It's easy to get a picture of something that moves slower than a tortoise and is bright yellow. I saw big ones, little ones, banana slugs on the ground, on leaves, on tree trunks, hanging from branches. Yep, the slimy little, er, not so little guys were everywhere. I'd post one but myLot is not cooperating with me right now. Post a response and maybe I can upload the picture then (hopefully), if not I'll post the URL where the picture is posted.

We have ordinary brown slugs in our garden; I have never seen bright yellow ones, it makes sense they should be called banana slugs! I saw the photo on multiply; interesting looking things although a bit revolting, not my favourite slimy creature...

We just get the ugly brown ones, too. That banana slug looks more like a banana pepper...

I hope I see a photo of one of those banana slugs! I never seen one before! I have seen slugs but not a yellow one! The only ones I see are little grey ones that like to live under empty water pails that are left sitting in the grass! They aren't very interesting!

Hi Dawny - welcome back. We would see some rats, stray dogs, and some crows may be. :) We have systematically destroyed chances of other animals surviving. :)

Hey dawny! I'm posting from my email and I will maybetake a look at these lovely (not) creatures that you are describing since I'm quite sure I've never had the displeasure! I'm guessing that they look like one of my very favorite fruits and I'm not going to be able to get their picture out of my mind? I think I will just post and run on second thought! I like bananas a bit too much to ruin a good thing!

I love these great big slugs, they are so colorful. It's scary to think what they eat, you know how much damage the small ones cause. What do banana slugs eat?

I just fed baby boy some banana, so this is a fun discussion to start off with this morning! I must say I've never seen a banana slug before (I did see your link)! Do monkey slugs eat them? Hee hee. Just don't step on one, you might slip - hee hee. The Redwoods must have been nice . . . oh I hope we get to go camping in the near future!!
