I read this in the paper the other day and I just cried: http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/08/07/1766177/requiem-for-a-child-and-common.html A father decides to teach his two year old son to box by pummeling him. His mother makes excuses for him. There is no excuse for this whatsoever. I hope they throw the book at the b*stard.

I agree with pretty much everything that everybody else says about this guy. However, I also find it very disturbing what this guy's mother said in his defense. She said "He might be capable of beating her [the boy's mother], but they always go at it, but then she goes right back to him." This indicates a history of abuse, so the mother of the little boy had no business leaving the father with the little boy in the first place. I know that it is difficult to get out of an abusive situation, but if she had left him before and gone back, then she is partly guilty as well, in my opinion. She did not kill her son, but it is at least neglect to leave him with someone that she knows is abusive.

It's outrageous how she won't leave the abusive husband/father even if their lives are in danger everyday that they are with him.

Yes, I zoned in on it too. As if it were all right that he beat her because she went back to him. Huh?????

Some people shouldn't be allowed to breed. Sadly, we usually find this out when it's too late.

He truly does need to have something thrown at him..maybe someone 3 times his size throwing punches at him and him being defenseless. Some men can be so stupid about stuff like that. Here is a Video that I found that might give you a few laughs..I know it did me. : http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/08/14/baby-dancing-to-beyonce.aspx

Very limber baby for sure..will be a great dancer if they keep it up and learn more because they can boogie down at such a young age imagine what they would be able to accomplish if the were taught more..

There is no excuse for it and the mother should not get to keep the child if she is making excuses for him.

I think it was the guy's mother (not the little boy's mother) that was making excuses for this guy. However, she did say that he hit the mother before, so I do think that somebody should definitely have stepped in and put a stop to it before it reached this point. The guys mother, which is this little boy's grandmother, knew that he was abusive, and she did not stop it any more than the little boys mother did, and she obviously knew, since she was the one the guy was abusing.

Yes it was the grandmother making excuses for her son, the boy's father. But if she knew that the child's mother was being abused, clearly there was a problem there that she was aware of. Sad...

The mother know that his son was abusive but she can't do anything. There was once an incident in the Philippines where a guy committed murder and even shot the police when he was going to be arrested. The mother still insisted that his son was a good kid and that he is not a murderer.

That absolutely sickens me to the core. There is never a child that deserves to be abused by a caregiver and it is even worse when it is the child's parent that has done this sort of thing to them. I hope that they don't ever give this guy the opportunity to see the light of day again because the poor baby will never have the opportunity to see the light of day or to experience the joys of life.

Hi dear, So pathetic. We are helpless. What we can do is learn something and get a lesson from this. People around should think and understand the world still better. We are reached on a civilization where all are around. What is meant by development? The culture associated with education is not reach anywhere? Who is responsible for this? Ourselves or the governments? Or the system which we follow? It is time to rewrite everything. Eliminate whatever is not required. Think little widely. Spend more for educate the people and enrich the culture and time exceed to educate such people. Regards, Thank-s

I think maybe the father grew up in an abusive home, and if there had been some kind of early intervention, perhaps this wouldn't have happened.

that is so bad. how could he do that to his own son. those kind of people should be behind bars. and the mom makes excuses? are there any agencies that can take care of the kid. the kid will be happier to a foster parent than those people if you can still can call them that.

I just want to shot the father of the 2 year old for killing his son! This just shows that some people aren't ready for parenthood and this idiot sure wasn't! Now this little boy will not enjoy growing up and doing normal things all kids do! Instead he will put in the ground because his father pummeled him. Killing him because he wanted to teach him how box! A good example that of no common sense what so ever! I hope they throw the book at his jerk and he is left to rot in jail for what he did! As for the mother she should be accounted too! It is ovious she wasn't ready to be a parent either! Another example of no common sense!

Dawn- This is indeed a sad story, and sad for so many reasons. I agree that this father definitely needs to go to prison. I know that this poor child will probably end up a TBI if he survives, and that his world was just altered forever. However, I am sad as well that this is yet another black mark against the sports. It is yet another reason parents will give for their children not to take up a sport, especially martial arts. I know, this was not about martial arts, but I've seen the argument made a hundred times that I know this will just be more road block for those of us who study and teach. Our own son is now 3 1/2 and has been doing martial arts study with his teacher (and father) for a year now. Though most of the practice is simply a lot of situational awareness, rolls, and where to punch someone if someone tries to grab him there is never any risk of injury to our son. I would hope that parents will not let this story keep them from allowing their child to become involved with a sport, simply because one parent who must have already had mental issues went gonzo. Me too! I think men who beat children should be severely punished, and those who beat adult children should be ostracised by the society.

SO sad, so awful. Im sure they'll say he's mentally disturbed and he'll be put away in a loony bin. This is mostly what happens here with cases like this. They end up in mental hospitals and after a few months or year they're left out to kill again. We have a real problem with our justice system and our medical system.
