My hubbie's new computer has what looks like a camera lense above the screen.

It also has a little skype sticker next to it. I haven't had time to try it out. Would I be able to use the camera on mylot? I have a scanner and I used some of the pictures I could scan on mylot for a while and then I suddenly couldn't. I was using an older borrowed computer, but mylot also went through some upgrades so I don't know what suddenly caused the problem.
So do you use skype? What for? Is it hard to use? Can I use it on Mylot?

Skype is a 'Voice over Internet' application and also an instant messenger client. The Skype sticker next to the camera is telling you that the camera is 'Skype compatible', in other words, you can use it like a video calling system or for video chat.
You can, of course, do other things with the built-in webcam, such as take a still photo or record a video of yourself. If you took a still photo, you could upload it or use it as an avatar.
I do use Skype from time to time to make phone calls. Their rates are quite good for overseas calls from PC to phone and if one is calling from PC to PC, calls are free. Actually, I prefer to use VoipBuster (which is a similar application) because their rates are a bit lower than Skype's.

That was an excellent explanation. Plus a related website. Thank you very much. Are you always this good at explaining things?

It is a camera, most of the latest computer have come with a camera. And the you can use the camera for a live chat using a communication software called skype. You can talk with long distance friend without paying a penny when you use skype over the interner. It also allow you to use it to see your friend using the camera. To use skype, 1st you have to register a FREE account with skype and get a user name. You also have to download the skype software for you to do the chatting. It is a very nice and user friendly program. You can't use it on mylot so far. Mylot do not have a chat with camera enable yet. Hope it will have one in the future...

Why would you use a camera on Mylot? It would be cool to have a bunch of us discuss stuff like in a quilting circle or something. That is a cool idea. You take pics of yourself and post them on Mylot too! That would be nice. You have something there I think. We will have to check on it further.

Since I don't have a digital camera and people are always asking for pictures of this and that, I thought that would be a good idea.
