As some of you may know my youngest daughter is expecting her first baby and my 10th grandchild. She has just phoned me to say that the hospitalhave told her that she is 'in labour' but that 'it could be days or hour' - big help as I am 60 miles away and am supposed to be going in with her and her husband when she has the baby. I have tended to take what she's said with 's pinch of salt' as she has 'been in labour'so many times for weeks!! I am in a quandry as to what IU do now really, I will need to take my son out of school - so doI leave it untilhe finishes school atb 3.00 tonight, do I just go anyway?Decisions, decisions!! I have been in on the birth of four of my grandchildren and it is a wonderful and yet awfulat the same time experience! I'd rather have the baby myself than watch my daughters go throughthe pain. The first one that I was present with was my eldest grandson who was actually born 13 weeks after my son was born - he was born in the same hospital, same delivery room and with the same doctor as when I had Jack! Afterwards I was holding my son and the doctor gave me a strange look, I looked t him and saud 'Here's one you made earlier!!' HAve any of you mums been with your daughters when they gave birth?

Since my daughter is only 16, I am hoping not to have that blessed experience for many years to come but congratulations, chem, my friend. I know how exciting this must be for you. I would drop all to rush to her side were it me in your place. You do what you think best, though. Best of all things to you and yours! Hugs, girlfriend!

I have one daughter, and she has not wanted or needed me there for that. Since she lives so far away, she prefers that I save my vacation and visiting time for when she is home from the hospital, and her hubby goes back to work. She actually moved on her last due date. Smart baby came ten days early. I got to hold little Hallie a lot, and my daughter got to piddle with the new house, etc. I also got to take walks with Lahna Mae and go to the park and stuff while mom took care of Hallie.

I hope your daughter & the new baby are doing fine. I don't have a daughter but have 2 dil's & i was there for both births of my grandchildren. It is quite an experience. I don't like to see them in that kind of pain. They both had to end up w/a c-section. We are expecting a new baby in apr. so will not have to see them suffer so much, thank heavens.

Hi there oldchem1 Well as my kids are still only 5, 7 and lucky if he makes it to 10 with his attitude, I have not been with them during giving birth. I will never have that experience with my kids either because they are all boys haha. My own mother was with me during the birth of the two youngest and was around the hospital with my first born but just wasn't in the delivery suite with me.

My daughter is only 12 so she better not be having any children any time soon. I think that is great that you have been in the delivery room for several of your grandchildren. I am adopted and my adopted mother couldn't have any kids. So when I was pregnant with my oldest child, I asked her if she wanted to be in the delivery room with me so she could "experience" childbirth so to speak. She was so excited that I asked her. To this day she still talks about it like it was yesterday. When I was pregnant with my second son, my husband said, we might as well have her in there again....so she was. When I had my daughter I was living in Seattle at the time and she was down here in Tennessee, so she missed that one.
