My favorite grandson came to see me yesterday. I always have something for him. Yesterday it was a paint by number picture. He loves to paint, color draw or whatever & we usually do something like that together. It was way too complicasted for him. it was in the toy aisle & i had bought things for him to paint before. I could see i hadn't done good on this purchase.. He asks me did u save me any 'silly papers'. i had no idea what he was talking about. After questioning him about it found out he was talking about the funny papers. I use to save them for him all the time & we would draw on them adding hair, moustaches or whatever but he got sort of tired of that so i had quit saving them. Luckily i still has yesterday's paper so we got out the silly paper & drew on it. Did u read the 'silly papers' yesterday??

When my teens children were younger, i saved so many of the drawings they made at school.; They were proud to make them. As a mother, i was even prouder to accept them. It didn't matter if the pictures made sense or not. it was the love they represented that mattered more.

Hi ANTIQUELADY Aww that is such a lovely activity. I can't say I have ever done 'silly papers' with my kids but what a great idea. When my eldest son went through a stage of being really rough with books, I think he was nearly 2 years old, he would rip the pages when turning them or even rip them on purpose, I took all his books away from him and gave him like store catalogues and he could rip the pages to his hearts content haha

Hi Jo, I haven´t bought a newspaper in ages and newspapers in my country are not so full of all kinds of things are yours. We don´t even have those coupons with which you save. But I know that small kids love to draw and paint and I always have dreawig paper and pencils of all kinds. Most of my granchildren have outgrown that stage but I still draw with Vicente. And now, in a few more days I will be a grandmother again and the circle willbegin again..

I´ll be a granny for a granddaughter. She was supposed to be born today and Claudia went to see the doctor but he was not available. She talked to him by cellphone and he told her to go to the hospital to have some chekings made (heart beat and other stuff). Fortunatly, the doctor in charge was my dear friend Humberto. So he performed the examination himself and said there was nothing to worry for one day (unless Sofía decided to be born without any help). I´m very relaxed now that he saw her.

My mom and I once did a jigsaw puzzle together. It was a cherished time for us and I glued the puzzle together and kept it for many years until it got ruined in one of my many moves. Doing things like that together will give your grandson some treasured memories later in life that will buoy him up long after you are gone. I think it's wonderful that you have that time with him. Hugs!

Yes, I read yesterday's comics. Was there a particular strip that interested you? I usually like "Zits", but I thought yesterday's strip a little too much. Although true to life, in some cases, it could have shrunk and hidden in the middle of the section.

p.s. papers do make good wrapping paper. my mother wrapped all her christmas presents one year in newspaper & tied them w/red yarn. they looked really cute. She use the 'silly papers' for the kids gifts.

I only read the silly paper on the weekends and it’s only to check out the employment section and the TV guide! I don’t always read the papers because the news can be so darn depressing…Don’t you love how kids can be entertained and have great fun with the simplest things? My husband plays a game with my daughter every Saturday when he buys the paper. He goes to the children’s section where the kids send their drawings in and asks her to guess the kids’ ages; she loves it and it is a very cheap form of entertainment indeed. By the way she sent a drawing in, it got published and she won fifteen dollars, pretty good I thought…

Hi Gabs, u got it. I saved the silly paper this morning. I didn't realixe the picture was so complicated. I think it would be a challenge to an adult. It was on the toy aisle so i thought it would be a chil's thing, darn it. I bought two of them w/different things to paint. Wish u were close i'd give them to u. They are definitely not for kids. Thanks for responding.

I have not read the 'silly papers" in a few days. I do it at the library. You have given me the inspiration for a new activity, though. I do remember reading huge comic sections when I would visit my grandparents, and then Heloise and Ann Landers as well. You have even given me new memories.

Hi ANTI! I am so loving hearing all of your stories about your grandson! I have started looking forward to his next cute little story. You should make up some kind of little journal with all his little silly things he says and then show him when he gets older! I lover how he comes up with his own "words" and you're supposed to know away what he means. I'll bet he has such an adorably serious little face on! I remember when my Godchild was litte, and he was a handful, but so cute! He is going to be 22 in a few weeks. How time flies...

Hi antiquelady. I not only read silly papers, but I still do doodle on them whenever I can like I was a kid. Funny that you mentioned this as I have been doing a lot of those in the old days. I even draw on my boring textbooks too. Not only do I draw on them I make silly dialogue balloons and put silly words into their mouths that make them look like comic books. It's very stress relieving doing this on politicians or celebrities faces on the silly papers. Cheers!

I never really got into the comic section of the paper. I know my mother used to read them faithfully every Sunday morning. If memory serves me correctly, she used to read Blonde. My daughter has picked up my mother's habit and she reads the comics and occasionally my husband will.
