Do you think we can have fun without spending a fortune?

As it was a holiday and weather was good, me and my husband went to the lake. We enjoyed a lot there, it was great. Without spending money we enjoyed our holiday. I sometime wonder why some people spend a lot of money to have fun, even though they don't have it to spend. I think we can have great fun without spending a fortune, just need to think a little bit to do that efficiently.
Lots of people think that fun during holidays means go to some hill station or beach, stay in hotel, or go to amusement parks. But without doing that also we can have fun. Go to local park or lake side, arrange a picnic. Or go for fishing nearby. Believe me you and your kids are going to enjoy that. We have seen so many happy kids and happy parents on the lake side yesterday.
If you have money then you may have fun however you want, but if you are in a budget you should be careful. By the way, we should be careful anyway, spending money like there is no tomorrow is not a good idea.
What is your idea about enjoying holiday, or having fun?

I am easy to please, so I could have fun without spending any money. I could also go to a local park, stretch out blanket, and read a book or just doze off. If it's in front of lake then all the better. The kids don't seem to know the difference between bringing them to an expensive splash down park, or just bringing them to a local water park where they could run around and play with their water pistols.
I agree, you don't have to spend much to have fun!

Absolutely, kids only care about having fun, it does not matter you have spend money for that or not. Glad to know that you guys do enjoy as a family without spending money.

I really say I don't spend anything when we're at the local waterpark, because it usually involves a box of donuts afterwards.
But still, the price of a dozen donuts is still way way cheaper than the entrace tickets to these expensive water parks.

You are showing right now what a smart person you are. It is good to make good memories, but the cost of a fun time does not make it a good time. It is the attitude and the activity itself. Being with each other and out of the routine makes a wonderful holiday actiivity. I am glad you went to the lake. That money you saved may pay a bill or buy a week's worth of groceries.

I also think that it is so stupid to spend a lot of money to make great memories in life and later next month you worry about paying the bill. I hope American people will change their spending habit.

I agree sweetlady, all that you need is good company and a lovely spot where you can loose yourself, may be some packed food and drinks...you can spend hours together amidst nature and her bounties. I have always believed that money never buys happiness, may be it makes life easier and more comfortable but happiness has to come from within - Nice discussion and loved your post , all the best and happy mylotting

Well said Kiran; Money only can make life little easy and comfortable. I think money is necessary in life but money is not all. But still we need to respect money. If we can manage our money well, life would go smooth.

We're on a budget - so I totally agree - we don't need to spend oodles of money to have fun! Besides the already free places we can go to (parks, beaches, trails, mountains, etc etc), I spend time daily looking for free events and such for my kids/family . . . it's out there if you do some digging! Pack a snack/lunch and we're good to go! Tomorrow we'll probably walk to our local duck pond at the nearby college . . . so we not only have a cool place to go to, we get some exercise in! We do all sorts of things to have fun . . . I like to vary what we do so I can't even possibly list them all here. As long as with my family, we always have fun!

I am so glad to know that you guys are getting so much fun in different ways without spending money. It is very true that if you do some research you will find lots of things out there to do for fun with family and friends.

Yes, of course. fun is everywhere! :) Fortune/Luxury is just necessary to some people. But when having fun, fortune is not a requirement. For me, fun can be made with your family & friends. You may have fun with them without the presence of fortune in your life. If you're with them, then that's having fun already, since you're with the people you loved the most.

I agree. But there are lots of people out there who are ready to spend money, no matter they have it or not. I just hope that those people understand that we can have fun with our family and friend without spending money.

i love talking and hearing stories as well. So my room or the backyard is already a good place to spend my time with group of friends or a friend alone. chatting with chips or home-made sandwiches, ice-cold juice or cola will already do the trick. a happy afternoon without spending too much.

Yes, I also like to spend time with my friend only just talking, and small snacks and drinks are enough for me to get going and have fun.

i think this i possible. when you have fun, it does not mean you have to spend a lot of money for it... my bf and i have had our share of travel and enjoyment with out spending a fortune and we always end up having a lot of fun...:D
we go to amusement parks, we go to the movies, we go to great places outside manila but have cheap rates.. you just have to find the places and go and see them!! its all part of the fun when you go with so much to expect.. its also adventure.

I have more fun with a medium amount of money, it's nice to be able to afford things but I get bored I always do. Having very little at times can drag but it can also be more fun, as I tend to see more important things than throwing money down the drain which is why I feel it's important to have enough to get by.
I don't think I would like being a millionaire because I like just being average.

I think it is perfectly possible to have fun for free or very little money. I am glad that you and your husband had a wonderful time at the lake. One way of having a lovely time is going on a picnic and letting the kids have a game of hide and seek. Visiting the beach and making a driftwood house is a lovely activity which doesn't cost anything. I also enjoy taking my dogs for a walk along that beach. I like to walk in the countryside and see the fine views.

We don't have much money to spend, but we always try to have fun in any way we can. My brother, sister and I all play the guitar and sing. We can do this anywhere anytime as long as we do not disturb anyone. Sometimes, we just go to the park, buy some cheap eats and just talk and talk and talk. Sometimes, we just joke around.
We spend our holidays at home. We cook something special and out of the ordinary. Sometimes, we buy some booze, but we don't get too drunk, just tipsy. Although we wish we could spend the holidays in some other places, we do not let our circumstances prevent us from having fun and being happy. For us, the essence of having fun is just enjoying another's company. Everything else is icing on the cake.

Oh I really really agree.
We have not been antwhere special over the summer holidays or spent a fortune and yet we have had a wonderful time, i have had grandchildren staying with me and we have spent time on the beach, walking along the canal and playing on my son's kayak on the canal

I think whether you have a lot of money or very little, we all need to stop spending excess money for things like Holidays and vacations. I have gotten very good about finding things to do that are either free or don't cost a lot of money. You are right, the kids don't know the difference and as long as they are having fun that is what it is all about.

Oh yes, as they say money can't buy everything especially the happiness of just having your loved ones around you. Having fun can be met through a lot of ways, inexpensively. Being with my family or friends is more than enough fun for me and I don't need to spend to be with them. We most of the time have karaoke at home and sit around and share our own stories especially the funny ones. I completely agree that fun is not equal to spending. :)

We all can have fun even if we do not have much money. There are several ways to enjoy life and not all of them involve spending. Playing with my little boys and chasing them all over the house is fun. :)

Yes, we can always spend our holiday and quality time
together with our family during this holiday. If we have
the means financially, go ahead for a fun holiday somewhere.
Once in awhile, we will still enjoy outing locally to a nearby
park, museum or countrysides. Planning is always important, the
main thing is have a good, fun and quality time to relax and bonding :)
I don't think you have to have a lot of money to have fun. Poor people can enjoy life and have jsut as much fun as wealthy people. Money doesn't make a difference in being able to have fun. You don't need a fortune to do it.

As far as I am concerned, I think it is really so difficult for us to just enjoy ourselves without money. As we all know that all the things just need us spending some money on it. If The thing does not need money, then a lot of people will buy it , but regard it as a bad thing in life. Then we will lose a lot of happiness. So It would be better to have some more money to enjoy our life.

That's a nice way of spending a holiday. Yes, we can have fun without spending a fortune. I, myself, would not waste a single dime. Although I would like to treat my family to a vacation spot someday. It wouldn't hurt once in a lifetime. But still, the best vacation is with our family.
