Body odor, yeow!

I had to take public transport to my room (I can't get myself to say 'Home'about this place) today as it was raining cats and dogs. 12 KM on a national highway and in rain and on a scooter, is a likely reason to go 6 feet underground. At end of the working day, I took a bus which was jam packed. I was squeezed in between a burly man and the rear end of the bus. I don't think this fellow had ever taken a bath. The stench was so much that I held my breath to live! Why do people do this? Will it kill them to be a bit hygienic?

Yes there are many such types of persons all over the world. Their up-bringing is to be blamed. May God bless them ,their parents and teachers.

Not in all the cases. Some may be adequately educated and earning well but still would like to live an animal life. Just travel one day in a Mumbai local train then you will come to know how true it is.

Been on the locals in Mumbai. Lost weight during transit, from my back pocket where my wallet was. I don't know which was worse, loosing money or having to establish a credible reason for not having a ticket. Been pick pocketed is simply not accepted! When I travel by locals now, I have only the ticket and some loose change in my pockets. The rest is stashed away in my bag. Mumbai, Chennai, Kokata are places where there is a lot of humidity and so there is a lot of sweat. Even then, a little talc doesn't hurt. People simply don't seem to understand!

In this case I would say poverty and ignorance may have been the cause. God bless them all!

Glad you took a public transit. Jam packed must have been fun for you. It tells me people are trying to make ends meet. This poor man was probably homeless or close to it. Maybe he didn't have a 'room' like you do. I worked with a woman years ago that was HUGE and had a really bad body odor. I finally said something one day because she was totally oblivious to this fact. She even had made comment to me how rude people were to her sometimes and couldn't understand why. Why I told her she was so relieved. It was almost funny. I was a nervous wreck because I didn't want to hurt her feelings but felt she needed to know. She was glad to know and hadn't realized the problem at all.

You don't say! It was Sauna, massage and aroma therapy in one. As for this guy, he is most probably what we call "Landed poor". Most of the rural folks are that in India. They have enough land for bare sustenance, but some of the men from the family need to work to have liquid cash. And no matter how sympathetic we are, a sweat caked and smelly shirt in a public place is an inconvenience to others.

I think sometimes as well, some people don't realize just HOW bad they smell, since they are probably used to their own smell. Of course if this person does not bathe enough that should be an idea that they could smell bad, but I have known some people who shower every day and because of their work and the amount of sweat, they really smell anyway. Or sometimes people don't wash their clothes enough, either, in which case they will smell even if they just washed. I think it's more acceptable in some cultures than other to have a body odor, sometimes because of not using so much water and other reasons. I completely understand, though. It's gross! :P

Tell me about it! Maybe it was ignorance, may be poverty, it was certainly not sensitivity.

You made me laugh at this. Yes,why some people are too lazy to clean themselves. No offense meant, unless they really smell like that (the food that they eat, depending on their nationality) If,a person like to eat spicy foods then,we never do anything about the smell, even if he/she took a bath everyday, still, the natural odor will come out. And,that is why i hate to ride on with public vehicles. The good thing is...you reached your room(place) still alive (just kidding) have a great weekend ahead

Just a change from work clothes to bus-ride clothes was all that needed. Now the stink is in my head!

may be u r right frm ur point of view but i m not agree with u , as some times the stench was because of some kind of hardworking not because of had ever taken bath ,and sometimes sweat of some fellows smells a lot but that not in their hand and deodrant in their case is failed
