months. I was channel surfing and he had got my attention. His belief is that many people are telling him they got behind when gas prices were so high. Everything went up but their income. He also believes that the increase in spending that people would do (sales tax) would more than make up for the suspended sales tax. People would be able to catch up on payments and then we could move on. He said (someone) estimated it would save the average tax payer $5,000. It sounded good to me. It would sound better if I had a job, but it would also help with my husband's income tax for unemployment. Esp. since NY State uses an idiot card system that charges you $2 to $3 when you try to use your unemployment money each week. Would that help you catch up? Does his reasoning make sense to you? Would you write to your congressmen and urge them to support that? I wish they would do that from October through December. That's when we pay school taxes and then in January, we have to pay our land taxes. It also would help with insurance and Christmas. Do you think it will ever come to pass? What three months would help you the most? Does it sound good to you? Would it hekp you?

With the deficit so high, suspending income taxes would not be a good idea. Especially because, like nearly all Republican proposals, the vast majority of the benefit would go to very wealthy people who do not need it. People with low incomes pay little or no federal income tax. They do have to pay Social Security taxes, so it would certainly help to suspend those payments for a bit. Republicans would never go for that, though, because the majority of income for high earners is already exempt. If our government would learn to control spending, it would improve things all around, but neither party has been inclined to do that since before Ronald Reagan.

That reminds me, I should probably be putting something aside in case we have to pay in on income taxes.

Yeah and if your employer isn't taking anything out of you or paying in, instead of just paying your 1/2, you have to pay your half and what they employer normally pays, too.

You have brought up some valid points. I don't think they were trying to help peoploe with low incoms, but they were probably trying to help the Middle Class. Yes, that would probably only be a temporary fix, at best, if it worked. The core of the problem is the out-of-control spending. This is why when they say they're going to get healthcare spending under control, I just roll my eyes. If they can't do it for their job, how will they do it for an entire other system of expenditures? Thanks for your view of this. Take care.

I am not sure cutting the Federal Income Tax for three months would help, or be doable by any one state. I have a card system for my unemployment, and I just transfer it from my citibank account directly to my checking account every week, with no fees charged at all. I could use the card like a debit card or charge card, but I do not want them to be able to track my spending and judge what I do with that money. I think if taxes were to be cut any three months the last three would probably be the best, because people spend a lot then and would spend more if they had it.

Your bank lets you transfer it without any fees? The bank our unemployment card is through isn't up here, we don't have a single one. I wonder if we could transfer it? That's something to see about. I know a lot of people were complaining and it was in the newspaper that first you get only 1/2 your pay and then you get charged a fee every week. I had to take mine out at the teller machine, $20 at a time. One week, I had to leave $19.99 on it. The next week $3.00.I asked my back if I could do anything with the card instead of using the ATM and getting charged, they said no because it wasn't there bank, but that was before that article and they may have changed something. We don't have citibank up here. I think that's what they use and why my bank said we couldn't do it, but it is worth checking into in case things change because 26 weeks x 2 or 3 dollars is a lot. No, not by one state, This Texas guy was talking in one of the houses of congress, he's proposing it for the Federal Income Tax in congress. I don't know if he was speaking in the Senate or the House of Representatives and complaining that he had suggested it to congress. He said he didn't care if Obama took credit for it, but he does care that Obama had been told that by him and the next time he spoke to the American people, he told them Republicans complain, but they have no answers. Then he went on with other things that seemed completely off the wall and I didn't agree with, so I went back to channel surfing. I seldom watch the statin that has what's going on in Congress, but once in a while, they catch my attention and that did.

In Texas the payment goes on a Chase card. If you have access to a Chase bank or ATM, there are no fees. Otherwise, you get hit for a dollar or two any time you get cash. It can be used for purchases, and there is no charge for that, but who knows who examines your purchase history?

My unemployment benefits go on a citibank card. I was able to link my checking account, at a small local bank, directly to my unemployment account. I did that online from the unemployment account, by putting in routing number and checking number. Usually my money is on my citibank card by Wednesday. I go online, use the dashboard, request a transfer of funds and it is in my checking account by Friday or Saturday. I am sure I would pay a fee if I went to an ATM. I could use it directly for purchases at Wal Mart or the grocery, though just like any debit/credit card. I just do not want to leave a trail, if you know what I mean.

I think that would be great, and those 3 months would be ideal, oh well, my guess is the libs wouldn't let that happen, they don't want us to keep our own money after all...

Some people above don't think it would help for a variety of reasons. I think it would help us some, but not as much as if I were working, too.

It sounds like something they say when they want people to vote for them. $5000 is alot. It should help considerably if it isn't squandered. If it is then it doesn't help anyone now does it? If I had questions about it I would definitely call my congressman and see what his take on it was.

Thank you, hope you're having a good day. Yes, some people would spend frivilously, but most would just use it toward bills or to pay down a credit card.

To be proactive in such things is very smart and helps alot in the long run.
