I love to drink the vinegar after the pickles are gone. My nephew and I have had several "toasts" using pickle juice. And we've had a few contests to see who can down a whole jar! It's so good, once I start drinking it I down the whole thing! I hope vinegar is good for you!! do you like to drink the juice?

I believe I have before, but no I don't drink it regularly. I wouldn't drink the whole thing in one sitting. I've heard vinegar can be good for you, but I believe it's more Apple Cider Vinegar that's the best for people.

Yeah, I think it's the apple cider vinegar with the mother load still in it... whatever that is! But it's supposed to be really good for you. My friend uses it in salad dressings and such.

I'm not sure what the motherload means either, but we've got some apple cider vinegar here. We have a vinegar book that tells of it's health benefits, I've not looked over it myself, but I have looked online for uses for vinegar, some including apple cider vinegar. I believe way way way way back, maybe centuries ago, people drank the stuff a lot.

It was probably one of those natural cures that they used to use. Like aspirin and real coke!

hi macdingolinger I also love to drink that stuff. LOL. My husband shakes his head in disbelief when he sees it, how can anyone drink that pickle juice with all the vinegar and spices in it but I enjoy it a lot. When we make pasta salad and the pickle juice is needed for this I really have to restrain myself knowing I cant have it then as it has to go into the salad. LOL

Yeah!! I like to put pickle juice in deviled eggs, potato salad, and all sorts of stuff too! When I was a kid my favorite snack was to pour pickle juice over plain ole lettuce. I'd let it set for a few minutes and then eat the lettuce and drink the juice! It's not so bad being poor when you come up with snack solutions like that huh?!

hi macdingolinger just reading your discussion made me hungry for some pickles, LOL but right now eating them is out of the question as I have stomach upsets and the vinegar would sure not do me any good now.

We used to have those contests when we were kids, but I'm pretty sure my stomach would rebel now! I still sip a little now and then, though. Vinegar is very good for you unless you have kidney problems, then you should stay away from it. It's high in potassium, so it's good for most people who have high blood pressure.

If the kidneys aren't functioning well, they can't excrete potassium, so it builds up in the body. Normally functioning kidneys have no problem with it, though, as far as I know.

AH! Potassium is good!! How is it bad for the kidneys? I know it's a natural diuretic.

Yes! I love the taste of the spicy Kosher dill vinegar, & even chew the seeds & spices! I sometimes drink it when I'm just thirsty, & I have a jar of it chilling in the fridge at all times, because a sip or 2 will also obliterate even severe hiccups! I learned that from a Pueblo Colorado government pamphlet, of all places, along with a real quick & painless method of stopping smoking, & a way to get rid of aphids. Its out of print, darn it! Try the dilled pickle juice! NOT sweet, what calories (I doubt they're even measurable) & if you get spicy Kosher dill, it's really best! Maggiepie "Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we think they ought to have." ~ Former president of CBS News, Richard Salant

I dislike pickles, but I'm ok with "pickle juice" as long as it's with something. This is a really interesting thing because I don't think I've ever heard of anyone "downing" the whole jar. I like vinegar and I use it all the time for my Asian dishes. It's good for you!

LOL I said the same thing I've never heard of anyone drinking a whole jar of pickle juice. Maybe on a bet yes but this guy actually LOVES to drink it. Ick it makes me so ill to think of doing that. I like some pickles but not all of them. And although I like them I wouldnt want to eat them that often.

Pickle juice is vinegar, first of all, but brine, or salt water, as well. I do not know if it is good for you all the time, but I do know that I was once really sick,(diarrhea and vomiting and passing out) having accidentally poisoned my self with bug poison, and I did not start to get better until one night I was using up some pickles and decided to drink some pickle juice. It really made me feel better. I believe there are several minerals in it and it essentially balanced my system that was so out of kilter, kind of like drinking Gatorade. White vinegar is good, cider vinegar is supposed to be better.Natural vinegar, with sediment also known as Mother (not mother load) is, I believe, undergoing some fermentation. I think pickle juice would only be bad for you if it replaced something healthier, like water, or if you had salt sensitive high blood pressure.

yeah, the salt is probably the really bad part. But other than that I love the stuff... It's interesting that it helped cleanse your system it sounds like! So maybe it's really good for you after all!

Oh my gosh wow that sounds so gross. I cannot imagine sitting and just drinking the juice that is left in the jar after the pickles are gone. You can use the juice to add to things like macaroni salad or potato salad or deviled eggs but as far as drinking it no way thats so gross. I have never heard of anyone doing this but if you like it thats great at least your not just dumping it down the drain as I do.

It's funny to me that no one else has every thought about drinking the juice that is left! I love it!! I do use in for other things too, but then I just like to drink it as soon as the pickles are gone.

I don't know what that is but it doesn't sound very nice!. I don't like vinegar anyway except on chips and I haven't had those in quite a while! I'm sure that the taste would be very bitter though and I don't think I could stomach that! I love drinking other kinds of juice like orange, apple, mango and drinks like that! I'm not saying it's wrong to try something new, I've not had the courage. If you like it though and it's good for you then I don't see any problems or difficulties with it. Andrew

It is said vinegar is good for your health, and my former Chinese flatmate used to cook a special 'food medicine' containing sweet vinegar and boiled eggs. (Don't ask me how it tastes like. I dared not to try after seeing its colour.) We often save pickle juice for cooking, especially for casserole dishes. It adds some sharp tint to long-cooked vegetables. And because pickle juice tends to taste slightly sweet, it goes well with meat. However, I will never down pickle juice directly into my throat. Its sour and acid taste is just too strong for me.

I use the pickle juice in angeled eggs. (most call them deviled eggs but I don't really want to eat anything "deviled"...)

I drink those juice too, Some benefits of these juice are controlling of diabetes, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels. Vinegar also makes an adequate surface disinfectant for hard surfaces such as counter tops, tiles and enameled bathroom surfaces and its ability to clean and sterilize cookery.

Pickels - The juice is much more delicious.
mmmm pickle juice I so love the juice, probably more than the pickle. As I am on to slurp on the juice first before I enjoy the pickle . If I am not mistaken I understood that vinegar is a great anti-oxidant.

As far as I know vinegar is good for you. I don't know about pickle juice, but at least it shouldn't hurt you. I have also read that pickle juice is credited with preventing muscle cramps.

That might be because all the nutrients cooked out of the cucumber during the canning process and is now in the vinegar! I'll drink to that... actually I haven't had any muscle cramps today so hey...maybe it's working!! lol!

Um.... No. Do a lot of people do this? Yuck! Maybe you can start a new fad and sell it in soda bottles. Do pickles give you extra energy? I know pickles are a healthy snack. You could sell it as a health drink. People will buy anything.

I have never heard of anyone else doing this. I am going to have to keep checking back on this discussion to see if there are many other people who leave a comment and say they do it to. I doubt there will be many people but then again who knows. Vinegar is said to help cure heartburn so it must be healthy but I just cant imagine drinking it and liking it.

So far I guess my nephew and I are the only ones I know of who down the whole jar. When we have our family reunions it's our own personal tradition to have our pickle juice toast!
