What are you grateful for today?

Yesterday I was very happy to be able to attend church, and be with my parents. I hadn't gone in a month or so because of migraines and other health issues. And those of you know have back trouble or other issues like that know that morning is the hardest time to get around because of stiffness. But I was grateful to be there and to be able to support my dad. Since he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last Wednesday, I am soaking up each moment I have with him. I've always been appreciative of him, and have always told him I love him, but knowing you might lose a loved one drives it home all the more. I'm also thankful for football season! My dad and I love to talk about football. I'm a football fan and a baseball fan, so it being baseball playoff time AND (American) football season is great for me! And it helps me think about something else. I don't think I've mentioned on mylot that I went on a gluten free diet over a week ago. I read a story about a woman who got rid of her migraines when she went on a gluten free diet. She didn't know she even had the allergy until she was in her 30s. And once she cut everything with gluten out of her diet, her migraines became scarce. Well, I feel really good. It's been hard, because let me tell you, gluten free bread just does not make a satisfying grilled cheese. lol But I feel better, and it has been easier sticking to this because I'm doing it to get rid of migraines. Plus, I've lost 6 pounds! What are you grateful for today?

Oh my God I hate migraines, oy! I'm glad you are able to be there with your dad in his time of need. And it is very touching to hear that you have a common ground like football, that's just so sweet! I'm happy you have a lot to be grateful for today and I do wish your dad well, and also you of course. For me, I am mostly just grateful that the world hasn't gotten the best of me yet and I'm still breathing. Friends and family. Nothing out of the ordinary but the usual simple special stuff - the ones that really matter of course. :) Anyway, thanks for sharing your story with us! Again, good health to you and your dad. And congratulations on the weight loss! Keep it up! I need to shed a few myself. Too much junk food. :P

You got me on that one. That's what I miss the most. I bought something called Popchips. They are gluten free, low fat, and all around pretty healthy. And they don't taste one bit like a real potato chip.

Is it actually working to rid you of your migraines? It may not be gluten.. it could be MSG or any number of other foods or ingredients. My husband gets anxiety attacks when he eats too much MSG.. a small amount is fine, but a large dose of it hits him hard. What am I grateful for today? Well, I guess the #1 thing would be hubby's aunt Doris. We were over at FIL's yesterday fixing up and cleaning up.. which is a monumental chore! While we were there Doris called to let FIL know she'd bought him a car.. I'd answered the phone and she asked what we were doing over there.. and I told her cleaning.. then she started asking questions about FIL's current car so I gave the phone to hubby. After telling her about the car hubby started telling her about some of our obstacles we're trying to work through with FIL's house. He told her we're moving in and trying to make it livable. Well.. she was just so thrilled at the news that we're moving in. Her brother (FIL) is younger than her.. but still 75ish. He doesn't take good care of himself, and now that he's lost his wife he's taking even less care of himself and his home. So Doris knows how much he needs us! So, she's buying us a brand new hot water heater to replace the broken one we can't find a part for.. and she's going bigger too to accomadate our family.. there's currently a 30 gallon, she said if it's not too much of a jump from 40 to 50 she'll just go with the 50 gallon! Woo! She's buying the house a brand new septic tank. She's paying for an electrician to fix the outlet or line leading to the stove to make that work. She's repaying us for the money we've spent thus far on cleaning supplies. Basically, any expense we occur while making the house livable.. she'll pay for, we just have to do the work! Doesn't that just make our day?

That is absolutely awesome! I am so glad for you. Just reading about the troubles you were having with that house was depressing, and I wasn't the one living it! I don't know if going gluten free has helped my migraines. I think I'l wait a month before deciding. I have gone a week without a migraine before, so right now I don't know if it is just a phase with no migraines, or if it is going gluten free. What I feel so good about is my energy level. I have more energy. I used to keep a food diary, and one of the things I was suppised to chart was sodium intake. It turned out not to be salt or caffeine, or any other food I was charting. But of course then I didn't know to look for the gluten factor.

The food diary is a great idea.. because then if it's not the sodium or caffeine or gluten, you can go back and look and see what else was there. Perhaps you'll get lucky and it is the gluten. Good Luck!

Hi there AmbiePam! Today I am grateful that I was able to complete my accomplishment report. That means that tomorrow will be a free day for me. That also means that I can post today and tomorrow. It was really a very tiring day but Thank God! I am now done with my accomplishment report. =)

I'm sorry to hear of your father's diagnosis. I imagine that doesn't make things any easier to cope with his new diagnosis and your mothers memory issues. But I'm glad you are spending lots of time following the sports you love with your Dad. :0) I dunno what I am grateful today... perhaps that we are still able to have our home? we still have a decent amount of groceries to get by? or for the fact it's MONDAY & 2 of 3 kids are in school all day + 1 hubby @ work! YAY! However, I'm not grateful for the mess I have to attempt to pick up wich I should do instead of be on myLot.

Well, I'm grateful that despite the mess I was into, there's always a silver lining. For example, we received an order for wedding cards today. They wanted the cards in a hurry and only made the order yesterday. I need to design, print and fold and we didn't earn much from the type of cards they chose. I even mistakenly spelled the bride's name and only realized it when all cards were neatly put together in a box! When they picked up the cards, I explained about the mistake and apologized. I thought I need to reprint the whole thing. But they said that it's okay and they could fixed the mistake with a pen (I type 'm' instead of 'n') and made another order for more expensive cards.

I am grateful for the fact that I am healthy and not having many major problems, with everyone else in my family doing as well as can be respected. Really, what more do you have to ask for? I think that is a lot better state than a lot of people who are far better off. Granted, I do not live a life of luxury, but when you have a healthy, comfortable life, you really have to take what you can get in this life. So, yeah I am grateful for the fact that life seems to be going smoothly. Can it be better? Of course, it can be better, life can be better all of the time. However, can it be worse? Of course everything can be worse, much worse, even for the person who have the worst luck can be worse off. So I am grateful that life is rather comfortable with as little problems that can be expected.

I am grateful for time with my family this weekend and time at my brother's house. I was wondering about your gluten free diet. Check out the cheese if it American Cheese product, sometimes it has starches and possibly gluten in it. I have noticed a lot of products say that they are gluten free, now. I bought some plain Greek yogurt, because I had a coupon. I am using it for starter in my own yogurt. I observed that it was gluten free.I hope you have many days with your dad. My dad was feeling better this time than he has the last two times we were down.

I'm grateful that work went well today and people were in a good mood when I called them to check their status to determine if they were ready for the company I work for to stop at their home. Sometimes people are grumpy after a long day at work. Many I called had the day off, so were really in a happy mood.

That must be hard to do. Because you are right, people can be really grumpy, and downright rude on the phone when a company calls them. For any reason.

I am very grateful today as God has once again given me chance to live, to kiss my parents, and to do good deeds. Specifically, I am grateful because I am able to complete yet another draft of my visual novel, which has been two years in the making.

Hi Amber, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. I haven't heard from you in awhile and I have been away for the last 2 weeks visiting my mom. I got back Wednesday night and have been sick since. Email me when you get a chance so we can "talk" cause I have missed you, "lil sis". As for your gluten free diet, I have heard that it is difficult, but healthy if you do have the allergies to it. I don't know exactly which foods have gluten, but I do know there is plenty of info out about it now. Let me know if it continues to help with the migranes, I did hear that it is supposed to. Mine started to return right before I left for my "vacation"?? Take care of yourself and my prayers will be for your dad. He's a tough man and a fighter. Email me when you want to talk. Love ya, Les

Hi book, thanks for the good wishes. I missed you too. I don't see you around much and I haven't been around as much lately myself. I had an "interesting time" with my mom. I did enjoy the sun and pool and got a nice tan! Hugs right back at ya!

I am grateful because I have a beautiful child and I am in a position where I can stay home do what I love and get paid for it! I don’t earn much but I am happy! It is wonderful that you are savouring every moment with your dad, if only we would all remember to cherish and appreciate our loved ones like that! Your new diet sounds as though it’s doing its job; I hope your migraines eventually disappear because they are terribly debilitating aren’t they? Take care Pam, still praying for your dad...

I have a lot of things to thank God for the day. First of course, the life and good health I have. Despite challenges in life, he continues to shower me with food both spiritual and material. I also appreciate the peace of mind and the feeling of happiness I have today.

The best thing is losing the pounds LOL… Sorry to know about your Dad and yes, its at times like these that we are grateful for every moment that we can spend with our loved ones in peace and contentment…doing together what we love the most…I wish you many many more such happy days with your Dad. Personally, my life these days has become so hectic and stressful that I’m just grateful for each day passing uneventfully and all the family members coming home safely at night and sitting together for dinner. We hardly get to see each other what will school and office all going on at the same time, so once we all are back home, I heave a sigh of relief that one day has passed and its time when we can just put up our feet and relax together. So in that sense, I’m actually grateful everyday!

I am grateful not onl for today but always because of the blessings that keep on coming each day. though i also encounter conflicts, pressures and problems at all times. I am still happy and thankful because god still blessed me and my family. my only wish is I could also able to help somebody and share my blessings with them.

Wow I love what you are grateful for that's very nice, well lets see what I am grateful would have to be mostly every thing I think that each day that I wake up and I get through each day is a blessing for me because what could be better than living each day to the fullest that's what life is pretty much about because one never knows when it will all come down it's a mystery how life is like that, but we must always remain positive and follow the light that always guides us and to not fall into temptation which in that case would be the darkness which is never good that's why we all have to remain strong. So I am pretty much looking forward to tomarrow and getting through the day ok is all that I pretty much want I don't know if that's a little selfish of me or not, but that's all that I desire right now. Have a nice day everyone and never fall into temptation keep on following the light and you will be rewarded.

I'm grateful for my family and friends. I've been going through a rough patch with money and they have been very supportive. My step-dad paid for my car repairs and my friend bought my ticket for a concert that I've been wanting to go to. Of course, I do plan on paying them back, but they understand that I can't at this very moment. I appreciate them because even if it wasn't the money, they would be there to help me through whatever I had trouble with.

your post brought a lot of inspiration for people who are having a bad day. being grateful for little things is a blessing in itself. i'm grateful for finally having my day off from work today after 2 weeks. i'm grateful for the long sleep i had and the energy i got from it that i was able to cook lunch for my sister and im specially grateful to see her smile at me saying she loved the dish . i'm grateful for a fair weather as heat can really make me cranky i'm actually just halfway through the day so i guess there will be more things i can be grateful for.
