Making butter in our classroom. I loved that. The teacher put a carton of cream in a jar and screwed the cover on tightly. She had us each shade the jar 100 times. eventually it clumped up. She gave out crackers and we each had a little taste. That was great fun! What was your fondest memory of school?

My third grade teacher. I had a crush on her. Reading Tales of Two Cities. One of my favorite books. Skipping 2nd grade and 2nd High School year. You didn't know I was that smart? LOL Having two girls compete for my attention at a school dance. Beating the crap out of someone that didn't want to stop making fun of me. Getting 100 in some school tests. Winning a spelling bee. Finishing the school day and running home to watch The Lone Ranger. Thanks for the memories!

I don't work anymore. I took early retirement, learned to live on less and am a volunteer Bible teacher. Also I do some writing on the net hoping for a break. maybe one of my articles will be helpful to someone else. I live to give!

A good B.C. morning to you, dear writersedge! Have been away from here for some-time as my 2 yr. old computer had a meltdown in June...still using whatever resources are available...including Library! Fondest memories of school...the journey each day! In spring, & Fall, I rode horseback..ooooh, the sounds of the Meadowlarks...AND winter, hunkered down in a sleigh-load of Hay...keeping Jack Frost at bay! What's funny, to me...is making butter was a common-place occurence in every home...but we would relish the times when we bought Margarine...it was white, and you added a little yellow-dye pack! Gosh, now, what I would give to be milking a Jersey cow...and making butter! Cheers!

I started school in 1952...a one-room, very rural school with Grades One to Six! Oh, I have fond memories of school..my teacher was Ada M. Zoney and she lived in a teacherage attached to the school, also one-room! She was a wonderful gutsy, vigorous lady..whom thrilled us all as she had a piano, and treated us often to the lovely sounds, and also gave lessons! Teacher from Grades Four to six, was Mr. Farley and he gave violin lessons, which were far more challenging to me than the academia! Our heat for the school was a wood stove, upon which we always cooked beans, soups..stews for hot lunches....and the comraderie was wonderful! Cheers.

My husband and I started school in the 60s 1966 for me and 1967 for me. He had a small mountain community and he walked. I lived in a village and we had school buses. I had Kindergarten, he didn't. One of my College professors had been a one room school teacher in Maine. She was in her late 70s when she taught us.

What years did you go to school? Interesting that going to school and back, but nothing in school was the best. You're really a total outdoors person.

My fourth, fifth and sixth grade teachers. They took me from an underachieving little poor girl to a child who blossomed with her abilities in math and spelling. I went from not wanting to be at school to refusing to be sick, because I did not want to miss it. I remember my seventh grade Science teacher, who actually taught us more about many aspects of life than I ever learned elsewhere. She introduced us to Edgar Allan Poe, when we talked about construction--how? Masons. Cask of Amontillado. Why did we learn about construction, I am not sure. We learned about the difference between astrology and astronomy, and what causes a blue baby (that got her in trouble, it involved child birth and Se*) and the causes of Autism, which have now been proven wrong. I learned so much. I liked my tenth grade Second Year Algebra class, loved my literature and creative writing classes. I had some very good teachers and some very poor teachers, but I did learn.

That reminds me of 6th grade where I learned a love of reading. I read every book the library had about Native Americans. Our Science was great, too, amoebas and all kinds of neat science things. English, we learned about different kinds of writing and had to write an example of each one. I did like 6th for all my classes except for math because my teacher would walk up behind them and scream at them if they made a mistake ( I wrote 1 x 1 = 2 --thinking 1 + 1 and that fool came up behind me and yelled at me.) 8th grade the math was cool. We had centers where we measured and did practical, every day math. Like baking math for recipes or measuring math for building a table. I actually had an A, the only time in my life. My Social Studies teacher was a drunk, but he reinacted history. He was at all the American History Historical events to hear him tell it.

Strangely, my fondest memory was of my primary school days with this particular teacher named Mr Joseph Sim. I said strangely because there's many more memories from my secondary school days that are more interesting but this memory was the first thing that came to my mind. It was my fondest during that time because Mr Sim was my English teacher and he was like a friend to me too. Not just me, my whole class as well. During our physical education period which he would be taking us up as well, he would play a game of soccer with us and was really enthusiastic in the conversations that we have since most other teachers just view us as kids and didn't really talk to us like how he did. It was really a great time back then. He made my primary school days carefree and enjoyable. :)

Nice that he played soccer with you. Sometimes extra time in their early years, really helps children feel special and wanted. Very important these days. Thanks and take care.

My fondest memory of school was in the fifth grade. Because it is the last year of elementary school, every year the fifth grade class goes overnight camping for 2 days. I was a little reluctant to go at first because I had never really been away from my parents but I was so glad that I went. It was so much fun.

We have that here, too. Not sure where you are. I'm in Northeastern NY State. It was like a right of passage when they did that at a local school. I think more schools should do that. They prepared for it learning different skills for the outdoors. So what did you guys do for 2 days? Thanks for the memories and for joining Mylot, may you enjoy your time here. Thanks and take care.
