Sticker Shock!

Greetings fellow frugallers!
I've been a frugal gal for quite some time now and find that I am completely out of touch with things like high street prices for clothes and other items. I needed a diary and found one in a discount stationers for £1.49. In a Big Name stationers the same kind of thing was £8+.
I only buy clothes on sale or pre-owned so when a catalogue arrived this week with a magazine I was amazed to think that there are people happy to spend £35 for a T-shirt when £5 is my absolute limit.
Do you ever experience Sticker Shock?

With the way the economy is I'm often surprised at the cost of things...especially when I go to the store and spend a bunch of money for just a few little bags. I try to price shop and often skip getting things if they are too much.

Here in the U.S., we experience sticker shock quite often because of inflation. Things that used to be cheap, are now becoming more expensive. Example, a gallon of gas once cost $2.00, and now the average is $3.03. It's insane!

I do experience sticker shock alot. I have been going to the store more with my daughter. She used to do all the shopping and I would stay home or in the car due to social anxiety and sore body. Prices have gone up since last I was out. And I get a woman's clothing catalogue in the mail and I am shocked at the prices for just sort of fancy shirts made out of t-shirt material. It is amazing.

Since I retired, I've stopped doing much shopping except for food, and those prices are ridiculous. I was surprised, though, when I saw the price of sneakers.

Only all the time. There are a lot of things that I like to get new, but I won't buy things new unless they are on sale or on clearance. The worst for me is the fact that the jeans that I like to wear cost $50 per a pair. That said, I can't stand to pay that much money for a pair of jeans so I will wear what I have until I absolutely have to replace them. It still makes me sick when I have to buy a new pair of jeans though. I would buy a cheaper brand, but none of them fit me right.

hello, my sister. It is very unusual for me to ever buy anything that is not on sale. I go to a shoe store that discounts and sells last season's shoes. I have to have brand name athletic shoes, as that is what my foot doctor says will make the pain go away, but this store sells them as cheap as discount foot wear. Even groceries get purchased when they are close dated or on special sales. I do have a hard time understanding people being willing to spend a month's wages on one item of clothing.

Hi hvedra! I am also a "bargain shopper"! I love to get things
on sale! I don't shop in thrift shops because the ones that
we have here are not very clean and I prefer to buy something
that isn't worn (or at least I hope not). But, I also wouldn't
pay ridiculous prices for things that I know I can get for less
money if I just am patient and look around for a better "deal".
To me there is nothing more fun then getting something that I
need or want and paying a lesser price for it!

I sure do all the time and Im really happy I just found a site where I can buy new and brand name clothes for peanuts!! Same price as second hand clothes, I get designer brand!!
Im jumping with joy. I used to check sales as I work at home, so the clothes I need are for special occasions and parties. Why pay a lot of money when I wont be wearing it again. Im also not too bad at sewing so I'll make my own if thats possible.
I used to pay a lot of money for my clothes when I worked in an office but not anymore. Good for those who dont mind paying too much for their clothes.
I also shop at the dollar store for anything else I might need. Who can beat $1. lol
