So, there are these neighbors down the street, their backyard backs up to a big field and a creek, so I can understand they might want cats helping keep the rodents down...
But they don't fix their cats...
And now there's a new litter of kittens.
This morning a car came and split a couple of kittens from the mom and rest of the litter.
I turned around got out, and carried those 2 over to be with mom and rest of their sibs. Don't know how TAME the whole litter is, but those 2 let me pick them up - 3 and a half to 4 weeks old... just BABIES!
I'd love to talk to the people, but they are some oriental race and haven't fixed any of the cats I've seen over there, I don't know how they'd take some strange lady showing up and demanding they fix their cats...
I do know that if I have to stop and render aid to these babies again, they are probably going home and not back to mom...
Far better than seeing little kitten bodies on the street
What do you guys think?

I have been known to rescue a kitty or two in my time, and anything that comes to live with me gets fixed asap. I think people do not want to spend money on animals that they regard as working animals that they leave outside all the time.

I don't care who they are, they would see this strange lady knocking on their door. I'd tell them what happened and that they need to fix the cats so no more babies are coming from the cats they have. I mean it don't cost that much.
They use them for keeping down the critters, then they need to care for them and get them fixed.
It's so good that you got the little ones back with their mom. I would have done the same.
Would they rather see a strange woman or RSPCA at their door?

Like Bob Barker use to say after the price is right, Plese keep your pets spadered or nutered. so why not. we can have over poulation of pets when no one wants to care for them in a proper manner.

I never have heard of it being a cultural thing not to have an animal fixed. I would suggest reporting this to your humane society but I see several have already suggested that. It's so sad because there are so many homeless animals running around. I hope something works out so you won't have to deal with this problem any more.

This is one of my pet peeves and I have been working hard here in my own little corner of the world to educate people and try and bring down the feral cat population but one person can only do so much...especially when people refuse to listen and get their cats fixed!
Do you have any kind of animal control in your part of the world? I would be talking to the local shelter for suggestions on how to approach this problem. It really gets my dander up to see folks who have no compassion for the little creatures they claim and who refuse to be responsible pet owners!
GRRRR!

they do stuff about loose dogs, but not really about cats
the local Humane society distanced themselves from the local shelter because it wouldn't go no kill, and animal control really only deals with cats when there's a cat bite involved... like when Mitten bit me...

I won't tell you what I'm really thinking as it's making me ill. But for sure, if there's a next time, don't take the babies back and tell them what is going to happen...they will get the cats fixed or they will have the authorities come and they will be fined! A LOT!

I really think I can get them easier on all their "garage sales" than on the cats. We have a rule in town about only like 3 sales a year or they have to get a sales tax thing... I actually KNEW someone who got caught on that one! Well, not the people personally, but where they lived, they had like a sale every or every other weekend, and these folks seem to have one once a month.
They deliver phone books, and that's fine, but I really think they are living on the edge, so to speak. I'm surprised they don't pick up cans!

I actually thought it didn't make a difference in some cultures but I guess people don't agree with that. Don't some of these countries eat cats?, not to sound gross, but that's what I thought. So why should they care if the fix them or not if they're going to kill them. I dunno, it's weird.
I do think if you have a cat and it's not going to be for breeding or for show purposes, it should be spade or neutered for sure. Too many of them just die, or turn feral because they're unwanted. Sad state of affairs all around.
I hope you bring the little one's home...I know you have enough but I know you, haha. Don't forget to take pictures when you do bring them home.

Is those people's property within the city limits. If so, what is the city's rule about domestic animals running loose? SA requires tags, and the cost is higher for non-neutered animals. That is what I understand from scanning their paper.
Is there a clinic that will neuter cats and dogs for free or a low fee? If you know of such a place, you might get some literature and take it to your neighbor. I believe that might be a better approach.

It is darn annoying the way people don’t fix their cats and let them wonder to reproduce; when the kittens come as they inevitably always do they are generally abandoned to be killed or become feral cats. I would make an attempt to approach the people although chances they either will not understand do nothing about the situation or tell you to go away! I would take the chance so I could at least say that I tried...

I also think it is important for people to fix their cats. I know that cats can reproduce very quickly and before you know it..the neighborhood will be full of cats and there is the risk that they will be killed. I don't know what they would think about you telling them about it but they might realize that people are noticing that they are not taking proper responsibility. Take care.

I was going to say that maybe there is some organization or something that you could report them to and they could tell them to get them fixed. I was reading the responses and the person that suggested you write a letter had a good idea. That would probably be better. It seems there isn't anyone of authority that would really care.

I've seen several gruesome accidents of cats/kittens and it's really heart wrenching because they are helpless creatures who only wants love and care. I have 3 semi-indoor cats (because we can't let them poo inside the house) but only one of them has to courage to go outside the yard every now and then. All of them are stray cats taken into our care. I really love cats, their sweet tendering touch makes me loved as well. But I believe they exhibit a more sincere act than humans.
