House prices where you live?

October 28, 2010 5:01pm CST
How much are the prices of houses where you live? Most around where I live are about £60k to £100k, depending on the size of the house and what condition it's in. I'm interested in hearing what the prices are like around where you live, as the market is starting to rise here and I'm generally interested in comparing. Hopefully one day a nice house in Canada or somewhere isn't too far out of reach, as I would love to get a much better quality of life.

Wow! That's cheap. It would be good to get a plot of land for £60k around us in south east UK. A 3 bedroom semi-detached house in a village is £240k and a small 3 bed detached house is in the region of £350k. Add another bedroom and you are looking at the thick end of £400k. My daughter wants to sell her house and move locally but there is a difference of £100k for one the same size around here. And I am nowhere near London. You can add another £150k to get one there but then if you work in London, the annual rail ticket from here will go up to £4,680 next year plus the misery of hours of your life spent on travel.

I would say that in my particular town, which tends to be high priced, we are a little lower than you are. My house is not so nice, it is old and nearly paid for. Right now a decent house would run about $110,000 to $250,000, and if I am accurate right now it is about four pounds sterling to each dollar.

My Canadian friends come down here every winter and are very glad to come. They usually buy a lot of stuff at a good exchange rate and take it home when they go back in the spring. My friend showed me a very nice home in a mobile home community near where he lives that is on sale for $1500 USD. No, I did not say $15k, just $1.5K, no, not for a month or a year, but for the total cost of the home. Some people pay that every month in rent. Taxes on a mobile home are 1/10th of what I pay on my condo, too. It is something to think about! This would be nice for one adult person, not for a family with kids, of course. It is a buyer's market in all kinds of real estate here.

Here in the US any home in a descent area is very expensive and even with the market drop the cost is still quite high. Unless you purchase one in a really bad neighborhood and area it is quite expensive to buy here. When I first bought my house many years ago, the cost was 105k and after 10 years the value went up to 480k but with the market flop it is worth about 225k now. But most new homes in the same area are ranging from 1.8 million as being the cheapest.

Hi joey, Have you been to Singapore? A majority of Singaporeans live in government-built apartment blocks which we called HDB flats, prices range from USD230k - 300k for a 90sqm flat to 350k to 380k for a 110sqm flat, there are smaller flats and bigger ones too, price difference depends on area, location, type of finishing etc. There are private houses too, but the prices could vary very much also depending on the factors above as well as their investment value.

The pricing for housing here in the USA is as varied as the accents you can find. Pricing depends on where you are buying. For example .. to rent a room in NJ .. I had to pay 1000/month I can pay my rent for a nice 3 room apt here in wv of better quality for almost a year for the same price. To buy this house it would be about 15,000 and I paid almost as much just to rent a room in nj for the year. It's where you buy that dictates how much you pay. You can have the same quality house and better view but pay less then in a busy smoggy city that is considered high class.

Canada is getting just as over priced as everywhere else. In fact there was just a news report that Canadian houses are 22 percent over priced, and the rents here are outrageous I can hardly live.

hi joey matthews here in the US in California you must be fairly well to do , the cheapest houses are 150k to 600 k on to a million, when we first married we had a house for 20000 dollars three bedroom that was in Phonix now we cou ld not even afford to pay our rent of 1200 a month when my son was laid off. when we first came t o t ustin we rented a two bedroom apartment for 600 a month and that was about the average now its doubled for sure.60000 here might once in a while buy a used townhouse but thats all.what I think of house prices in Southern California.

In the area in Denmark where I live the cheapest houses cost around $180000 if they are in a relatively good condition. Some houses cost between $140000 and $180000, but they are usually in a bad condition and if you have to renovate them you probably end up spend up spending $180000 anyway or even more. If you are able to renovate the house yourself you can save some money if you buy one of the cheap houses, otherwise it is a little risky. My husband and I would like to buy a house and we have seen several houses. We have found a house that we both like, but the problem is the price and $180000 that is too expensive for us.

I live in the US and just sold my home (three bedrooms and two baths) in New Mexico for 150,000. I lost money because the market is so bad but I had to get out to move to Puerto Rico. In the area that I lived the houses ranged from 100 thousand to 160,000 in 2010. Back in 2007 the same houses were 150,000 to 180,000.

Prices of house or even apartments and condos here where I am from are expensive. A small house now a days will cost a person around 1 to 2 Million. And compared to the wages people get that is a big amount.
